not at all CindyC, not hell from me at least
i have 2 tickets for the show in my country but all I want is keith to be well
my concert is Milan june 22th but i really hope doctors and keith himself dont rush the recovery for business reasons
if 4 weeks are not enough (and I suspect so) so be it 6 or 8 or how many he needs to be well. That is the only thing that counts now.

as I already posted here last year I had neurological problems twice. I did nor have surgery but the doctors told me to keep quiet for 3 weeks after I was dismissed from the hospital. And I am 38. So I really hope Keith is so strong and quick in his recovery but I think we should be realistic about that.

ok with sssoul and maumau,

You are right, I shouldn't have put that in there.

I am going to edit it out. I'm glad you guys feel the same.

Right now I wouldn't mind a show being postponed and I don't care for how long either... but I would be disappointed if they were to cancel the tour altogether. Either way Keith's health comes first, I wouldn't want something to happen to him because he had a tour to do. If the shows I 'm planning on going do go on, I will be worried about what might happen to him, so I want him to be 100% ok. They won't go on with the tour if he isn't, right? And I would prefer a show later on with all four of them.

Richards' brain damage fears
[www.nzherald.co.nz]

10.05.06
By Derek Cheng and David Eames

Concern continues to mount over the condition of guitar legend Keith Richards, who is recovering from major surgery - his second operation since his accident in Fiji.

The Herald understands the 62-year-old had surgery early on Monday morning which required holes to be drilled into his skull for a craniotomy, a serious operation used to remove blood clots that involves removing a portion of the skull.

It is understood doctors are concerned about brain damage.

A source told the newspaper that Richards underwent his first operation to stop bleeding in his skull 12 days ago, soon after arriving in New Zealand, and medical staff feared for his life at the time.

The source yesterday confirmed the first operation was performed on the night of Friday, April 28.

He was discharged a few days later but was sent to a place with private medical care to monitor him.

He was readmitted after passing out and complaining of major headaches.

Publicists for Keith Richards have confirmed the Rolling Stones guitarist has undergone at least one brain drain.

London-based LD Communications confirmed the hard-living musician had surgery on Monday to relieve pressure in his head caused by a fall from a palm tree during a holiday in Fiji.

The statement said Richards was yesterday "up and talking with his family" soon after the operation, which was described as "a complete success".

Two of Richards' daughters were seen visiting the hospital yesterday and his wife, Patti Hansen, is also understood to be with him.

The statement also confirmed fears first raised in the Herald yesterday about the Stones' ability to continue their "A Bigger Bang" tour.

The publicists said Richards was expected to take "several weeks" to recover, and the European leg of the tour would be delayed to next month.

A dearth of official information about Richards' accident and treatment, and conflicting reports about his condition, have worried Stones fans around the world, some of whom have contacted the Herald for news.

"It sounds to me as if the Stones' media machine is doing their best to low-key this story," said one concerned fan from the United States.

"My desire is that Keith is impervious to all pain and injury but my fear is that that brain surgery is not good news."

Ascot duty manager Geoff Sparks yesterday refused any comment on the condition of Richards and would not even say whether he was in the private hospital at Ellerslie.

The Herald was instead directed to the offices of LD Communications.

Fran Curtis, Richards' New York spokeswoman, also refused to comment on the operation, but admitted to having "no idea" how long he was likely to remain at Ascot.

The official line at the time Richards was brought to New Zealand was that he was suffering little more than mild concussion.

Richards must have been readmitted to the Ascot, as he was originally discharged last week, a move Mr Sparks confirmed then.

MEDICAL NOTES

* April 28: Richards in Ascot Hospital, Ellerslie, after falling from a palm tree in Fiji.

* May 1: Richards reported to have suffered only "mild concussion".

* May 3: Discharged from Ascot. His injuries were being "monitored".

* May 5: Britain's Sun newspaper reports Richards to have a hole drilled in his head to release bleeding above the brain.

* May 8: Richards reported to have already had skull operation, up to a week earlier.

* May 9: Publicists say Richards has, that day, undergone surgery to relieve continuing headaches.

Thanks for that, a little scary, but at least the facts for a change. I think Keith will be fine, but at his age this has got to take some time to heal. The doctors and then the Stones management should start being a bit more straight and stop pretending he's going to be rocking any time soon. In spite of the indestructible myth, he's just a man. Would you feel like blasting out JJF a few weeks after getting your skill drilled, I think not.

(Even if we're getting closer to the truth I wouldnt
call the listing of Sun-reports a sheer fact-list.)

The Auckland tv-news link which Keefkid posted says
btw that there were whispers of Keith would be discharged from the hospital
already "today"; which why the reporter herself questioned strongly.

It also, on the other hand, speaks of postponement about "a month".
That would be June 24 or later:

We probably shouldnt count on any Scandinavian gigs in June,
is my conclusion here... Which I think most folks around here as well
as me has sensed the last day; that it has been in the air.

thank you Triplelicks ... the headline doesn't seem to match the content of the piece, which is ... weird.
this article's main aim seems to be to defend this paper's story that said Keith was operated on last week -
that story came out just before Stones Inc announced that the operation was this past monday (or whatever day it was in New Zealand),
and i guess the Herald went back and requestioned their original unnamed source.

sigh sigh sigh - this is all so hard to fathom

Keith, be well - just be well. all the way.

It all sounds very, very bad to me. If you listen to the people who
have experienced it in their family such brain bleedings take months
to recover from. First they have to check if blood comes out again
without physical effort, then with physical effort etc. He has to
be checked regularly. If the doctor says: "What´s your profession?
Rockstar? Travelling through Europe? A 2 hour show every 2 days?
I don´t think so, Mr. Richards!" It was life threatening, says the
article. And it still is.

I have avery bad feeling about the tour. Sorry to say that.

Agreed. I honestly don't see what's so awful about those two pics. How can you tell he's "walking in a frail manner" from a still photo? He certainly looks grim, but he's having surgery for God's sake! Of course he's not in good spirits.

The fact that he's walking, however slowly or gingerly, is a good sign to me.

Yes, TT; So do I. Maybe we're not getting to see them at all.
But what matters is Keef getting well; suppose we agree on that.

They did however said he was doing fine in the tv-clip.

I hope he will get well; tour to start in mid- or late June
and if I am lucky (not important here!) I could maybe see
him at a rescheduled Glteborg show in September or anytime.

One thing I'd like to add here is that Keith's head injury, since it was a serious injury, will prompt his MD's to strongly advise him to abstain from future alcohol use. There can be comlications after head injuries from ANY alcohol use. This is an issue that Keith and his family are no doubt also dealing with at this time, and will be in the longterm.

I'm getting serious doubts that the European tour might happen after I read a lot about Keith's illness. Would be good to know for once what the situation is now and how he is doing!

i personally think that it is even more worse than we think.

there is too much secrecy and disinformation.

wether you like it or not but my opinion is

- that the european leg is not going to happen
- it needs months for keith to recover
- and what worries me the most is fact that there is so much secrecy and disinformation.

i really hope that i'm wrong but i think the situation in even much worse than we all imagine.

let's pray for the man and hope that everything will be o.k.

Thanks, Erikjjf. Those pics are a little bit scary. Even a Stone is made of flesh and blood. Keith looks in bad shape and so alone....but Pattie is not far.

The pics don't shock me that much - he's not dressed up for the media, which is understandable. He's (was) walking on his own and without problems.

When were these pictures taken? Entering the hospital or going back in again for surgery? Is his head shaved in those pictures or is that how his hair looks now?

I guess going back in for (second??) surgery. He is clearly getting bald - no spray or hooks, etc. in his hair now, so that's why it doesn't look like on show-photos.

If he has had 2 surgeries where are the dressings from the first one?

Re: Keith in Hospital

That's Keith Richards "private citizen" not Keith of the Rolling Stones in those pic's.

Depending on the date those photo's were taken Keith does look frail and weak.

The pictures didn't worry me, the fact that his kids went seems really logical, he had a brain surgery, how can they not go? As far as the tour is concerned, I think I should just wait and see... (Keith-get well!)
