If they move the shows to Twickenham, will the dates stay the same? What exactly have they "reserved". Apologize if this has already been covered.

Indeed. They're still mentioning Bon Jovi as maybe going to Twickenham though - when its been confirmed officially that its Milton Keynes

However, Sky News interactive just now have mentioned that Multiplex have just released a statement saying the handover date will be June. If thats the case, then the Stones shows will probably be OK

This is the statement taken from Multiplex's own official website :

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wembley Update
31st March 2006
In relation to the Wembley National Stadium project, Multiplex advises as follows:

Substantial completion of Contractor’s works is now anticipated by the end of June 2006 (previously May 2006), based upon a review of the costs and benefits of any acceleration measures.

Previous updates relating to programme have presumed an integrated approach with Client’s works being completed simultaneously. Multiplex yesterday received advice from the client that it is now reconsidering whether it will or is able to continue to integrate its works, or whether it will commence these works post completion. Multiplex’s client, Wembley National Stadium Limited, is solely responsible for determining when it starts and completes its works and also when and which events are hosted at the stadium.

Substantial completion by the end of June will have certain works and certain activities such as commissioning and cleaning still to be completed after this date (refer to earlier releases).

Additional Wembley allowances were included in the Group’s latest interim results specifically to cover any further unforeseen delays. Based upon the programme noted above, no further adjustments to the project’s financial position are anticipated.

Multiplex has formally advised its client that Multiplex is entitled to substantial and legitimate extensions of time under the terms of its construction contract which will extend the contract completion date until at least September 2006. Not withstanding that it is Multiplex’s belief that it has until at least September to complete, Multiplex is targeting substantial completion by end of June as noted above.

In the last month Multiplex has achieved the following in relation to the structure:
 Final de-prop of the roof
Erection of the remaining moving roof panels
Removal of five temporary trusses and three roof towers
 Demobilisation of seven cranes
Handed over up to 60% of the roof for final roof sheeting Completed the south moving roof panel ready for commissioning
Completed 50% of the pitch ready for top soil and grass

The rafter incident in the northern roof, which was reported on 21st March 2006, involved the evacuation of site as a prudent safety measure as Multiplex took steps to ensure the rafter was secured in a controlled environment. The rafter is now being reinstated to its final position, where it will be assessed along with the surrounding elements for any further rectification work. The forecast impact affects the temporary works removal and associated works within the arena. The effects on the arena spread to the completion of the main service road at Basement 1. There are approximately 2,500 roof connections that have been successfully completed. The issues surrounding the incident on this connection are still being investigated and this will address whether in fact the work method statement was appropriately followed by the sub contractor in this instance.

During final inspection of drainage systems, defects were identified that are being rectified by the responsible sub-contractor as agreed with the consultant team. Multiplex has allowed for these works in its forecast programme. There are approximately 12 kilometres of drainage on the project. Approximately 25 discreet locations along the 12 kilometres are being rectified.
Please find attached additional information on the forecast completion sequence and site photographs.

supposedly they reserved Twickenham as an "alternative" in case Wembley wasnt ready in time

The dates of any rearranged shows are conjecture. In theory it should be the same, but apparently the licenses for Twickenham are under the condition that any concerts have to be on weekends. The Stones shows (20 & 22nd August) are scheduled for a Sunday and a Tuesday which could therefore be a problem. Especially as the Stones dont play back-to-back nights anymore

They do however now have a free date on Friday 18th as Dublin was cancelled, so that may come into the equation too

How about Hyde Park?

I reckon they should now fill in at Hyde Park or Knebworth & postpone the Wembley shows till next year.

What about this rule that only 3 concerts can be played at Twickenham. Is there no flexibility ? To exceptionnal situations, exceptionnal measures. Mr.Blair, who is supposed to be an ancient fan of The Stones, should move on and put pressure to have them allowed to have at least 3 Twickenham nights. I hope I am on ther right post about Wembley.

hopefully we'll get an offical announcement
from Michael Cohl in the near future.

They're, still hoping against hope for Wembley.

No, Wembley is now a no-hoper.

All the signs point to Twickenham. Both Take That and Bon Jovi have definitely moved to Milton Keynes and Twickenham has said that a couple of Wembley concerts will be moving there. That surely only leaves the Stones. The only other concert there this summer will be the Eagles and that will make up the 3 concerts they are allowed. The capacity is smaller but I'm sure they only realeased a smaller amount of tickets so far.

perhaps you're right Finnstone, we shouldn't underestimate Cohl- as you say, if he held back a certain % of tickets, for the eventuality, this would happen, then 2 dates at Twickenham would suffice.

The dates would need rescheduling though- specifically the Tues 22nd Aug, show.
- weekday Twickers concerts not permitted.

Twickenham even has the same upper, middle and lower tiers as Wembley. There would not be a problem transferring tickets as the only numbered tickets so far are on the pitch.

update of ticketmaster-information: (news / quote, March 31st)

"If you are enquiring regarding a booking for any of the Rock and Pop events for the new Wembley Stadium, Ticketmaster are aware of the media comments surrounding these events, but we have no official information yet other than Bon Jovi confirming their relocation to the Milton Keynes Bowl. As soon as we receive official information from the event organisers we will contact our customers directly. We will update this answer as soon as we have more information".

I think you're probably right. Have Twickenham actually stated that "a couple of concerts" are moving there?

The thing with Milton Keynes though is that capacity wise it would still be substantially smaller than Wembley (and Bon Jovi and Take That's shows at Wembley would have had general admission on the pitch - unlike the Stones - so the capacity would have been even bigger again). I'm assuming that both of those acts held tickets back in case of such a problem because they still seem to be selling tickets (for Bon Jovi anywAY)

I guess the only thing to do now really is wait until something "official" emerges, and realistically that's got to be from either www.rollingstones.com and/or Ticketmaster. They're the two key players in all this.

Nothing official as of yet, either sporting fixtures (Challenge Cup Final)
or gigs

Clipped this out of the BBC article that you're linked to from BV's news update in the News section of IORR.

'National disgrace'

The Rolling Stones' European tour promoter John Giddings said it was a "national disgrace" that England could not build a stadium like other countries.

I would have to agree, it certainly IS a national disgrace.

It won't be moved to Milton Keynes due to it being all standing and they won't allow that because of the older age range of stones fans....St john ambulance would't be able to cope!!!

This country is useless.

If it takes us this long to build a stadium, how the hell do this pathetic government expect to stage the olympics? That sporting event will be a farce and we WILL screw it up.

The FA will announce today that it will be unable to hold any major events until January next year at the earliest, preventing WNSL from yielding any revenues from an operational stadium.
Rock concerts involving Bon Jovi, Take That and the Rolling Stones will have to be cancelled or relocated and the Community Shield and two scheduled England internationals will also have to be held elsewhere.

i'll be interested to see how they move Jovi from Wembley to MKB

its a totally different layout with a smaller capacity

there are no seats for starters so how the hell will they work it out ?

It is possible that the number of tickets for Bon Jovi has been limited to not exceed the capacity of the back-up venues. The Milton Keynes Bowl holds 65,000.
