I agree with every one of those except sides 2 of both Low and Heroes which I find plodding. Interesting but hard work.

For the deluxe-edition they in fact pulled out better songs of the garbage can than most that are on the original album.

Respectable is quite ok, Miss You was a big hit (nevertheless I do not like it) but everything else... garbage or almost garbage. The only good thing about SG is that with all the bad songs still it isn´t boring like GHS and parts of IORR. Strangly enough ER, although more or less following a similar concept is a much better album and very enjoyable.

What makes Exile so great is the rough and ready feel of the whole album. Yes there are flaws but what incredible flaws they are.

This is where true Stones' fans wanted the Stones to be in 71/72 - in a dingy basement cranking out songs from the heart and joining together the gritty nuts and bolts from everything that had influenced them up to this point.

The beauty of the album is that incredible roller coaster ride - the dynamics of taking the rough with the smooth.

For every classic like Rocks Off there's a raw rocker like Rip This Joint right after it; for every gem like Torn & Frayed there's a wonderful tune like Sweet Black Angel.

The sequencing of the album is key - I wouldn't want to hear it any other way.

Exile is a masterpiece in a very unique way. Many of the individual songs may not seems like masterpieces themselves when heard on their own, but when you listen to the album as a whole, everything slips into focus and it is indeed a masterpiece, something greater than the sum of it's parts - like the Stones themselves.

All very good excuses. In fact Exile is half great, half terrible. All because they were too lazy to carefully select the tunes to end up on a single LP, which indeed could have been one of their greatest albums ever. What a chance missed. Instead of selecting they put the whole bunch on the album, bad apples inclusive.

I totally disagree with HMS about EXILE. The " bad apples" are not bad to me, they are the fibers that hold the entire work together, like in a symphony. I think EXILE qualifies as a masterpiece as does TOMMY by the WHO. Again, all of the songs are powerful and contribute to the one HUGE unified sound of the album as an entire work. Just my opinion.

Both are equally terrible...

Knnillssonn by Harry Nilsson is his best album, the only one he wrote all the songs for, unique in his body of work for it's sound and instrumentation.

While some songs like "All I Think About Is You" "Blanket For A Sail" and "Perfect Day" immediately strike you as classics, the rest of the tracks just kind of sneak up on you.

This record didn't really fit in to the music scene when it was released in 1977, and commercially it just died.

But it really has a timeless quality, and it's an amazing album that needs to be discovered by more people.

Also the mixes are among the worst in the Stones catalogue, even Mick himself agrees with this. There's a reason many of the songs have never been played live, it's cause they stink.
