Stones and Gambling
Posted by: Chris Fountain ()

On my way back to Miami after fiercely competing to gain a slight edge playing Black Jack at the Hard Rock it made me wonder if there is any wagering activities amongst the Stones. Of course, Hang Fire comes to mind, but do they ever hit the casinos??

Oh hell yeah.

There's a pic of the Stones at a crap table or roulette wheel, don't remember the details.

I'll bet Rockman probably has it.

Yes he does. I mentioned it once a while back and good old rocky posted in within minutes. I believe the one your talking about is a very old picture of just Mick,Keith and Charlie all smoking around a roulette table. It sticks out because you rarely see pics of just those three together. Espicially from the early days.

On their next tour I bet they play Tumbling Dice.

And not Casino Boogie.

Yeah I see Cutler but the guy next to Keith I'm pretty sure was in GS and I thought he was Schneider but I might be mistaken.

So that's Ronnie Schneider? That makes sense. Not sure why I was thinking Bert.

Glam Descendant (and everyone else interested too!), here's Schneider's website: [www.meandtherollingstones.com] -
the photo currently on his front page appears to be from the same 1969 scenario as the ones Rockman posted for us.

there are some interesting photos and stories on his site, if you dig around;
be aware that there are some inaccurate dates and nowhere near enough photo credits,
but ... well, enjoy it anyway!

A great picture! And the Twins are so typical themselves:

Mick, from a bit distance, not too much involved, with a brief amused smile, thinking "Hmm.. let's see how Keith manages, maybe I could put a dollar or two next round if he does okay.."

Keith, sitting on the table, totally concantrated, no smile: "Hmm, I think I put the whole salary from the tour into this... well, Redlands next..."

By the way, here is the source, Ron Schneider put others new pictures on his website

"After the show in Phoenix in 1969, our pilot informed us that the plane wasn't due back until the following morning and we could stop anywhere enroute from Phoenix to Los Angeles. Boom, Las Vegas. We got off the plane (which was a 707 with about 100 seats of which we used about 35) and walked into Vegas. First stop Circus Circus and the pitboss asked if we wanted our picture taken (which was against the rules), we said yes and hence the photo of : from the top left corner is a trapeze person, Astrid (Bill Wyman's girlfriend), Bill, Keith, me, Mick, and Sam Cutler behind us with the long blond hair is Howard Hesseman of WKRP in Cincinnati fame."

(Ron Schneider)

But it is my understanding that the one who was really hooked in gambling was Ronnie - playing a lot in horse races, even in dog races

Back to Schneider website, this is funny how he mixes this priceless pictues with silly video games (IMO) - see the "hang out and play" - meaning he doesn't take this too seriously, I guess

Very interesting...I've been called a lot of things but not Bert Schneider. As for the gambling comment..."But it is my understanding that the one who was really hooked in gambling was Ronnie - playing a lot in horse races, even in dog races"-- hooked..?? it put me through college...
Any help on my putting in wrong dates is appreciated..I am horrible at dates

Hi Ron Schneider here... I found and enjoy this site so I wanted to clarify some of the stuff.. As to why I have silly video games.. I have them there for my grandson, ARi, he's 10 and loves to play online video games. I thought it would be nice if he could come to my site and 'hangout'.
Jo/Georgia Berman is doing well, I saw her at Ethan's book signing for Let It Bleed.
Those shots from Vegas came about in an interesting way. We had picked up Phoenix, AZ as a last minute date on the tour and had a chartered, I believe Boeing 707(I'm not great with dates so anybody can correct that as I proceed)The Promoter didn't promote and it wasn't a total sell out, so we were pissed and then our pilot says that we don't have to have the plane back until 8:00AM the next morning, and would we like to stop anywhere between Phoenix and LA..and so it began.
PS...the 707 had over 120 seats, I believe..we came there with about 8 of us and left with a full plane...
