Bette Middler? I see, you must be another troll then. No more history lessons, I promise!

The only song I like from that album is Beast of Burden but even that version cannot touch Bette Midler's rendition of the song IMO.
You are completely right about Bette Middler. Her versions of BOB is marvelous. BOB and Some Girls are the best songs on SG. But BOB is only outstanding because of the intro and the guitar work. Otherwise it´s - just like most songs on SG - mediocre. Mick totally kills it for me with that silly "pretty-pretty-pretty-you´re such a pretty pretty"-garbage.
Faraway Eyes, btw, is probably the most ridiculous Stones-song ever.

It's not that you would not need them, it's just a waste of time.

But it's featured on their - in your opinion - "best live album" Shine A Light. Something doesn't quite add up here... It was surely meant as a country parody, but it's a nice catchy tune nonetheless imo.

SAL isn´t their best live album but their second-best.

SAL isn´t their best live album but their second-best. And of course it would have been better to replace Faraway Eyes by the marvelous version of Undercover that only can be found in the DVD´s bonus tracks section. Some of their decisions are strange indeed.

Exile would be one if they had left the following songs in the trash can:
I Just Wanna See His Face
Sweet Black Angel
Shake You Hips
Turd On The Run
Rip This Joint
Casino Boogie
Ventilator Blues
Soul Survivor

Wow. You found even more fillers/superfluous songs on Exile than I did.

I honestly feel that Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out is an album where every song is a masterpiece.

Lighten up, dude. It’s only KISS - It’s ALL schlock. However, as a young ‘un this album was bloody perfection, the Exile of my youth.

Some Girls is their most overrated album in my humble opinion. I almost never listen to it. I don't like most of its songs and I find the production horrible. I never understood what people find so great with that album.
I hate Miss You with a passion and songs like Shattered, Respectable, Lies, and When The Whip Comes Down are some of the worst songs in the entire Stones catalogue for me. I really don't give a rats ass for that album.
Agree 100 percent Some Girls is so overrated in my opinion people saying it's one of their best is beyond me. The 3 previous albums they released were far better GHS,IORR and Black and Blue.

The question in the title of this thread kept aside, SOME GIRLS meant the Stones, within their own kind of music, nonetheless relating to the arrival of 'new wave' and punk as the third major wave of rock and surrounding popular music genres. As such, at the outset 'new wave' involved a new simplicity. Apart from the three arguably great songs of the album (and already mentionned by Dandelion),"Miss You", "Far Away Eyes" and "Shattered", the majority of the other songs of SOME GIRLS reflects that current new simplicity, which by the way seemed to vitalize the Stones. At that juncture the Rolling Stones were capable of reinventing themselves and move with the "zeit geist" of rock music on one more occasion.
