For some reason, the LP/DVD set for Tokyo is more than twice as expensive as Leeds... confused smiley

do we really need this release - since we already have Hampton 81 (same tour, same setlist)

YES!

1. Not the same setlist
2. The energy of this show is unsurpassable
3. Stu's last show
4. Bigger show / festival-ish / daylight
5. Keith in absolute top form
6. Mick and Keith doing Little T+A together

This show is special.

and for the feticists, you can spot a young Chuck Leavell joining the band for the first tourgrinning smiley !!

Agree with all six items adding as seventh that it was the last show of the real (non-Vegas) Rolling Stones.

Next to last. You forgot the gig in 1985, where they paid tribute to Stu..

What a great setlist ... but in 1986 I think. I have no objections that they add that gig in a Deluxe package version ...

" Ian Stewart tribute concert. Charlie Watts arrived late"

Makes me think Cw wasn't over with his "personal problems". Therefore I think Jagger would rather drink poison than listen to this one again. Much less seeing it released.
Imagine the "total recall" on Mick's brain : the DW sessions, WWIII, Charlie's ill "health", Ron Wood writing songs for a Stones album, the "Brenda" nickname etc etc. Enough to melt anyone's brain!

Maybe the tape of this gig has already been incinerated? smoking smiley

Charlie was stuck in traffic.

Ronnie had been writing several songs that wound up on earlier albums already.

Still no sign of Vinyl at Amazon US. Weird, since every previous one has been available. Hopefully things will change before release day. I guess importing it is an option but I have no idea about shipping cost...

As it costs only £16.80 on Amazon UK, you won't lose a lot by ordering there now, imo. The price will increase rapidly.

Weird. Maybe insufficient sales...
The Bluray + 2CD is a US exclusive not to be found in Europe...

I'm watching now. The best Black Limousine ever, with a lovely Bobby solo thumbs up

This show is a guitar fest, though. What a band!

It was only a myth! Mick is joining Keith (or rather Ronnie) on stage for Little T+A for exactly 2,5 seconds. He sings «she's my little rock'n'roll» with Ronnie once and apparently then leaves the stage sad smiley

I hope the channels are correct on this one. Looking forward to the SD bluray. My player has up scaling so it should look amazing. Enjoy the show DP.

Everything's correct on this one. What a marvellous release! Yes, the filming is a little odd in places, and those 80s sliding camera shifts are ridiculous today, but it's a Mick and Keith at their absolute best-show.

Loved the toasting with the audience in the end there, with the crew and warm up acts thumbs up

IMO, some of the versions here are among the best they ever did (Black Limousine, Imagination, Satisfaction etc.). Mick and keith are heavy on the Jack Daniels bottle throughout the show smileys with beer

Sounds brilliant Dandie; from the audio release a few years ago I must say Black Limousine, Imagination etc did sound pretty darn great.

I loved the Hampton DVD this time last year, and to get another Pro Shot from the 70s/80s is a gift, I anticipate this one highly. Hope to pick it up on Friday after work!

Re: The Vault release after Tokyo 1990....Leeds 1982

The vinyl has a warmer sound than the DVD. It sounds like especially Keith had a more «hard rock» sound than he had on the US leg of the tour. On the DVD that is very evident. On the LP that sound is softened a bit. And the sound is more heavy on bass.

This release surpassed my expectations, which weren't really that high since we've had this show for a while.

Highlights of the show:

– Keith's ridiculously fast licks (in minor) on Beast Of Burden while Mick and Ronnie were in the cherry picker
– Most of the band members were obviously running out of hair dye smiling smiley
– A lovely Black Limousine
– A beautiful Angie
– Mick's 2,5 seconds on stage for Little T+A
– Even though everybody looks wasted and tired on this last show of the tour, they are all having fun and the joy they're having is very visible
– Keith hijacking JJF and it takes forever before they start the last verse

I'm surprised by how fast they played this Leeds'show in 1982.
Those who attended this concert, do you remember that ?
I saw them in Rotterdam and Paris in 1982 and they didn't play that fast.

I remember them playing really well. My 1st show was at Wembley a month earlier and they were definately rougher.I can't say I noticed the fast playing, but it was noticable on the download - I think they probably used up the remaining coke as it was last show !

Leeds has stayed in my memory as a perfect day.

Leeds vs Hampton DVD

Is it worth getting Leeds as it has similair setlist to Hampton?
Is it shot in widescreen and what is picture quality like?

Re: Leeds vs Hampton DVD
Posted by: Doc ()
Date: November 18, 2015 08:27

It is in native 4:3
It is shot very differently : many (almost only) close shots
It is an open air day show vs an indoor performance
The set list is very similar, but it's a very different watching experience and a video that has not widely circulated on bootleg
This makes it probably worth buying
And add the fact that the price is pretty fair and that a commercial success is probably a condition for the series to go on with further more interesting releases...

If you like Keith's playing with the MXR Analog Delay pedal, this is the show you'll wanna hear.

It's certainly the best 1982 show I've heard thumbs up
