I bet some Justin Bieber fans cry when someone criticizes him.
Have we reached that point here?

Sure a sober and focused Ronnie can handle lead guitar duties but Keith won't let him. Keith for far too long has insisted on playing lead on, for example, SFTD which results in a a mediocre (being charitable) experience and often a train-wreck. It is more than age and health. I love the man but he has not served the music well for far too long.

I think there's a lot of accuracy in what Doxa is saying. I think I remained excited about the Stones until Shine A Light. I still don't understand the reasoning behind that film. It did nothing for their legend, only diminishing it, and Martin Scorsese brought nothing substantial to the party. I realize, as Doxa pointed out, that I no longer matter as a Stones fan, at least not the stage side of it. Of course I'll be interested in every video/audio morsel coming from the vaults. (I mean, come one, the band playing 2120 Michigan Avenue, live on Ed Sullivan is sublime).

But I think it's true that excepting No Security, we've been getting the Steel Wheels tour over and over. The band obviously doesn't care to hang out and create anything new or challenging. Hell, Charlie & Bill hang out together more than any actual current Stones do. Keith is this remote character behind mansion gates in Connecticut. You have to wonder if it hadn't been the opportunity of the 50th Anniversary, if they'd bothered to get together again for the stage at all. Even with the Anniversary it seemed like pulling teeth to get them going again.

We know as hardcore fans we've wanted them to do a bluesy album for years, something more in the spirit of where they started. There's nothing wrong with that. Or wanting Jack White to spruce up their sound as producer. Nobody is whining when they want these good things for the band. But it is time to realize that yeah, the stage act is all nostalgia now. And the closer they can play the songs within the narrow arrangements the 'average' fan expects, the more profitable they will be. Keith is all about show business now, repeating the same lines in every city. Okay. I'm not going to whine about it. I'm not expecting all that much from them this go around. I can only be pleasantly surprised.

I kinda like the high standards myself. That way I'll know if people here are raving about the London show that it's the gold-plated, five-star motherf**ker I pray for every night!smoking smiley

I say let the whiners whine and the cheerleaders cheer. The Rolling Stones and their fans are just one big dysfunctional family anyway! Accept it!

I'd settle for free anything...how about a free meal, featuring wine and cheerios?

A gorgeous homage to the fans.

- Keith is not up to it. Probably true but being nearly 70 and after a few strokes

Keith was trepanned to relieve blood clots that had accumulated from the impact of a fall, and the doctor who treated Keith has never revealed anything to contradict these details.

These, on the other hand, are a few strokes:

People, let's please have no more about:

- The Stones are greedy. Hey, they're just charging what they can to do what they do. They don't owe the public anything

- The set list is boring. They haven't even started to tour properly yet and we don't like the choice of songs already! This is a problem of the internet era not the band

- Keith is not up to it. Probably true but being nearly 70 and after a few strokes, what do we expect? I saw Ronnie playing a few months ago and he is on fire. He can handle the main guitar duties, no problem

- They play too many warhorses. They're playing for the wider audience not just us so get over it

- They should do an album of old blues. ZZzzzz

Reading this board sometimes is depressing.

Thank you - over & out.

:-))))

Great Post!

Agree with you!

They don't owe me. The setlist hasn't been built to please geek fans like me. They are old men.

I'm so happy that they decided to do a few shows and that I am going to be there on the 25th :-)
