I went to La Géode in Paris. My first surprise was that the audience was not all veterans, but quite middle age. The second was the "soft"interview of Mick. But of course I was stuck to my seat by this new version of L&G. The energy is there. The wellknown set list suffers no criticism. Is this the best line-up ever of The Stones. Yes. It is always an immense pleasure to listen to Mick and Keith singing along Dead Flowers. Salute Rambler, and YCAGWYW. In Love in Vain Mick T shows his mastery. Can a Band can once surpassed the JJF and SFM end of show. I doubt. Special thanks to Bill and Charlie for the work performed there.

I got the BluRay today and I love it!

Of course the video quality is far from excellent by modern standards but considering the source material, which was allegedly in very bad shape when Eagle Rock acquired it, this is probably the best they could do. Also, you have to consider that L&G was filmed in 16mm, i.e. far from a "high definition" video format. Still, the video quality is a HUGE improvement over the bootlegs. It looks particularly great at the end when they turn the house lights up.

However, what truely blew me away is the SOUND quality. The BluRay-exclusive lossless LPCM stereo and DTS-HD audio tracks are MASSIVE. The stereo track is not too shabby although a little boomy, bottom-heavy and heavy on the guitars but the DTS-HD is perfect: Crystal clear guitars & drums, dynamics and PUNCH. Perfect mix.
The only thing that still bugs me about L&G is the fake and annoyingly loud crowd noise that fades in and out between songs. It´s totally unnecessary and way too noisy. This can be heard particularly loud at the start of JJF.

No more crappy bootleg DVDs with washed out video, faulty NTSC > PAL conversion (source for the speed/pitch problem mentioned earlier) and poorly mastered audio.

The BluRay is the real thing.... Finally.

It´s too bad that we don´t get more outtake performances with this release. They filmed and multitracked four full shows for L&G, there must be some release-worthy material from Texas´72 in the vaults.

I saw the movie last thursday evening .

After seeing the movie on DVD at least 50 times lol,I thought that I knew it by heart but was mistaken.

Watching the movie on a big screen gives a very different perspective/view .

The footage was great. The job done is very good and I could hardly see any scratches .
The movie was a bit fuzzy from time to time due to the "red" lights .

The Stones at the height of their talent. The Stones at their peak !

-Taylor's guitar work is just STUNNING !I can easlily understand now why some of you say that after Taylor, the Stones weren't exactly the same .....
-Keith played real good & powerfully !
-He shared the same microphone with Mick
-Jagger is awesome .I couldn't stop watching his right leg moving .His primal scream on Midnight Rambler really got me .
-Pity there is only one scene that shows Nicky Hopkins.
-Their performance on SFM is from far the best I 'd ever seen .

Question
When Street Fighting Man was played, the sound -that was already quite loud - became suddenly very loud ,as if it was increased by the sound technician.

How many of you had this sound effect ?

Hey, Sway, glad for you! Shame there is nothing here! I move to France! Btw, is it true that France is Stones country?

I've got as far as midnight rambler and so far I agree with all you say. I had a morning of watching some old Stones vids (including some of CS blues) and to watch 70s Stones in this quality is wonderful. I just wish there was more.

Can you imagine they were even better during the concert I attended in 1973? I think you can understand that seeing this movie in the theatre brought back many memories from the 1973 concert and thus also some chills from time to time.

-Taylor's guitar work is just STUNNING !I can easlily understand now why some of you say that after Taylor, the Stones weren't exactly the same .....

Especially those Taylorites who attended a Stones concert with Taylor. We still have nostalgia for that period. "Always Suffering"winking smiley

Inclusive the 1973 Frankfort SFM video? I mean this one:

In the theatre where I saw the movie this wasn't the case. At least, I wasn't aware of it.

spent the evening watching it, some notes:
-those Keith vocals were an essential part of the band, sorely missed!
-his playing is spot on, in the Keef-way
-like they point out in the 2010 interview, the quick costume changes are quite funny
-MT has zero stage prescence, but that playing's so fluid (duh)
-Charlie's good tonight
-love Mick grinning at Keef when he keeps playing JJF a little longer than the band

I have the 4 Reels version of this movie. the quality is pretty good. Is the new release visually that much better. I understand the audio is a huge upgrade over previous bootleg releases. But what about the visual quality. Is it a huge upgrade, too?
