I always liked the way he played slide (in a rough 'n tumble kind of way). He didn't do it that much on stage though. I think he played it on Happy 1976 & Little Red Rooster El Mocombo 1977. Anything else?

The first time I went I was 14, but I went by myself without company of parents. I would say it's all right to take them when they are about 11/12 years old, if: 1. you've got tickets for seats (it's terrible if they have to stand up for hours and don't get to see much); 2. they really like the Stones (then they won't mind the waiting);

Listening to the sounds samples on rockpassion.com on headphones I thought I heard one clean amp against one distorted amp (and a little timedifference, maybe a delay).

Yeah, keep in mind it's been some time since their last real show. Then it's a very brave move to play live to the world press and even more so as a fivepiece. A week ago I found it hard to believe they would do that and I'm very happy they did. And I prefer my rock 'roll a bit sloppy to boring perfection!

Could be the live ambience echo. Did they use multiple guitaramps? If so I might have heard one clean amp against one distorted amp (and maybe a little timedifference, delay).

Sounds great, but listen to it on headphones (on rockpassion). Seems like 3 guitars to me (?). I'm I right or have I consumed my rock 'n roll too loud lately?

Hi Stonefan, I have a problem with Under My Thumb (Pontiac 12.01.81) on your great Rockpassion site. It skips and jumps. Is there a way to solve it? RnT

Bruno wrote: >I suppose the Stones are recording digitally, don't they? How do you do an analogue mixing from these digital recordings??> If they go or analogue mixing it's not very likely they've been recording digitally. Wouldn't make sense as it would take two unnecessary transfers from digital to analogue and back (for the mastering).

I saw the HBO-show (januari 18th) on a bootleg DVD yesterday and it surprised me in a positive way. I had already watched the show several times on 4 flicks, but the raw sound of the "on the spot" mix (less loud vocals, louder guitars, although sometimes also a very loud piano...) was very exciting. My friends (who hadn't seen this show before) were really impressed, especially by

This is a very important issue. Imo the Stones and modern recording technology don't go well together. First there's the sound itself. Analogue warmth serves them well. They should stay in the analogue field as long as possible (at least till the mastering). Second it's far more exciting when there are some things left to discover. I mean, after listening to Exile a 1000 times,

You're absolutely right CD. For work in the studio (assuming Bill is out of the question) I'd go for Keith. He plays different and his parts fit well. His playing on Voodoo Lounge on Brand new car, where the bass drops in on the second verse, is really great.

Don't you love the sound of the records recorded with the mobile? It's a pitty it's gone. They should've kept it.

Well, to be honest, I actually like Heathen Chemistry, their last album. The single Hindu Times has a massive wall of sound, the drums buried in the guitars. The sound reminded me of Stones singles like Get off of my cloud, 19th Nervous Breakdown & Have you seen your mother. To me it sounded exciting. And the Gallaghers are always good for a laugh, aren't they?

You're absolutely right. It's a real joy to listen to Bill on HG. It's also got to do with his sound. A bit dry and often in the middle range (not just the lows), which makes it easy to follow him. I specially like Love in Vain, the high notes he plays as an 'introduction' to the slideguitar. Just lovely. The Stones (and us fans) have been blessed with his unique style of
