This is a very important issue. Imo the Stones and modern recording technology don't go well together. First there's the sound itself. Analogue warmth serves them well. They should stay in the analogue field as long as possible (at least till the mastering). Second it's far more exciting when there are some things left to discover. I mean, after listening to Exile a 1000 times,

You're absolutely right CD. For work in the studio (assuming Bill is out of the question) I'd go for Keith. He plays different and his parts fit well. His playing on Voodoo Lounge on Brand new car, where the bass drops in on the second verse, is really great.

Don't you love the sound of the records recorded with the mobile? It's a pitty it's gone. They should've kept it.

The beginning of Start me up. He turns the beat around on the kick drum. A great moment.

Well, to be honest, I actually like Heathen Chemistry, their last album. The single Hindu Times has a massive wall of sound, the drums buried in the guitars. The sound reminded me of Stones singles like Get off of my cloud, 19th Nervous Breakdown & Have you seen your mother. To me it sounded exciting. And the Gallaghers are always good for a laugh, aren't they?

You're absolutely right. It's a real joy to listen to Bill on HG. It's also got to do with his sound. A bit dry and often in the middle range (not just the lows), which makes it easy to follow him. I specially like Love in Vain, the high notes he plays as an 'introduction' to the slideguitar. Just lovely. The Stones (and us fans) have been blessed with his unique style of

I've been to all kind of venues on many tours, in front and in the back. In my opinion the soundsystems on VL and BTB were much better than on the Licks tour. I don't know why. Also, in the small venues (arenas, clubs), the sound in 2002/2003 was very (too) loud. On the smaller stage they seemed to use the same backline as in the stadiums. As I recall the backline for the clubshows in

Yes, watched a documentary on Voodoo lounge yesterday. Keith stated that he did 6 weeks of preparations with just Mick & Charlie, before going to Ireland where the others joined in for the actual recording.

And the tempo of SFM? It seems so fast on LL. I didn't notice that on FF. Is it the same or did they speed it up? RnT
