Joni Mitchell is pretty sweet, although I had to sprinkle a little ginger on her to cut the patchouli taste.

Was "on-stage" at Durham 2005. From my posted review: I had Upper Right On-Stage location for the show. My first time in these boxes. I have mixed feelings about it. It is a really cool vantage point, and you're very close to the band. It was really interesting to see the back area of the stage with all of the crew and the fireworks rigs etc. etc. And, the sound was very good i

Agee about the current MTV.... Last night VH1 was replaying the first hour of MTV,complete with Atari commercials and all. Really hilarious, although I realized I still have a "thing" for Martha Quinn............. And, if you ever want to win a bar bet, the second video ever played on MTV was "You Better Run" by Pat Benatar...................

Like most bands the early albums are the best. That Rhino box catches most of the really good stuff. But, Sanctuary is a real good disc. Monkey Island isn't quite as good, but not bad. MTV and Freeze Frame sunk 'em.

Should be interesting. I've followed Lou almost as long as I've been a Stones fan. He's taken a few wrong turns in the last couple of years (his meditation music and The Raven, for instance) IMO, but you have to give him a lot of credit for expanding his oeuvre, and working with other people. Maybe his marriage to Laurie Anderson has lead him down a more avant-garde path. Whate

Quotewandlimb I remember the 'ugly vibe,' now that you mention it. I was almost trampled at the gates. Thanks for the description, which brought back memories. Karla Lots of bikers and lots of cherry bombs. It was a scary vibe. The show itself was to me better than the Philly show two weeks earlier, although I've heard a boot of that show and it doesn't sound as bad

Quotewandlimb Does anyone know if one exists from Cleveland '78? I have one on a cassette tape I recorded when I was in the crowd. I'm going to be transferring it to digital this weekend, if I have time. Karla This one (Rimshout) has the SG songs from Cleveland 78: Just so-so quality, obviously a crowd recording.

I really like the last album he did with the guy from The Orb (Youth) under the name of "Fireman". It's called "Electric Arguments", and is a little different from most of his solo stuff.

When I'm really anxious to hear some classic Stones I always reach for Happy Birthday Nicky. Brussels 73 is very similar in quality, but to my ears Keith is a little more "en fuego" on the Aussie tour. He and Taylor are really in-sync (without 'weaving').

As a big fan of Goddess, I have to agree. I enjoy hearing Mick sound a little more like an adult than trying to recreate the music of his youth. Nice to hear him explore some different textures and sounds. And, let's face it, the biggest problem with the last couple Stones studio discs is that they sound like the Stones trying to sound like the Stones (if you can follow that clumsy sent

I had an aunt with Alzheimer's. As they say, it's the disease that afflicts the family as much as it does the individual. The person is there with you, but for all intents and purposes is gone, forever. Truly heartbreaking.

IMHO, no. Just about everything he did up through Todd is very very good. Starting with side two of Initiation (the first side is very good) he got into the twenty minute "explorations", later to be further explored by the original version of Utopia. If prog-rock is your thing, you might enjoy this style. But, if you're looking for the 3 minute pop gems of Something/Anything, st

Well, the Stones started in 1963, so I don't know if five years before JJF is "a lot further back" , but you're exactly right about it being a common practice in the Sixties. Curious as to what was the thinking. Was the UK seen as more of a singles market? Or did it have something to do with EPs not being popular in the US? QuoteSleepy City QuoteKSIE The Stones have

The Stones have had a long history of leaving excellent songs off of their albums, going back to JJF and HTW. Have to wonder if it's not a business decision to market some single-only tracks (in these instances great singles) to maximize the number of products available for purchase.

Quotemitchflorida I just get the impression is that the singer is wrongly accusing the girl of infidelity and she totally berates him for his mistrust, and turns pale. I thought it was drinking the "tray of drinks" that made her turn pale..... Always preferred "A Salty Dog". Great song and album.

My reaction was similar to yours (I was 20). I thought it had a little bit of a disco feel, but with Jagger vocals and a bluesy harmonica, it still carried the Stones trademark. I was willing to indulge the obvious trend-grabbing as it was a good song. Actually I was more aghast at "Hot Stuff" a couple of years earlier.
