With the exception of a few tunes, I find U2s sound to be lifeless, boring and generic. Never understood their appeal. Their music always sounded to me like the non-distracting music a woman would listen to while ironing. Even worse when seeing them live. Compared to the Stones' charismatic stage presence and hypnotic performances, U2 simply bores me to death in concert. None of these guy

I just returned home from the concert. Too exhausted to write a comprehensive review, but let me say this: F**KING AWESOME CONCERT! Probably the best or second best of my 15 Stones concert. And that comes from a guy who is very critical when it comes to the Stones performing live. The sound was loud and clear, very guitar driven. A thrill to listen to! My impression was that Keith did extremel

I'm really worried that due to the closed roof the sound will be a complete mess. Even with an open roof the sound was really bad in 2007. I don't even want to imagine how awful the sound must be with the roof being closed For me that's a concert killer.

Quotesweetsummersun QuoteMingSubu How is Dusseldorf as a city? Worth checking out? A couple of german girls asked why I was going there, with huge questionable faces. They said, go to the show and keep travelling. Definetly wrong. Dusseldorf has a great old town with lots of pubs, breweries and restaurants. Perfect place to meet before and after the show. You can actually walk down the ri

What a boring stage. One of these run-of-the-mill ones you often see at festivals. Nothing special at all and probably the worst stadium stage I've seen the Stones play on since they became a Vegas act. But for this rather short tour with few stadium gigs I knew they would keep it low budget here. Anything else would have been economical nonsense I guess.

QuoteRedhotcarpet QuoteDandelionPowderman I'm gonna be at the Oslo-show anyhow! Fine but can you honestly say this is good? It's horrible. LOL :-D :-D Honestly, I have never seen anyone on a stage playing THAT bad. This doesn't sound like music anymore. I thought the Stones had their disastrous moments on stage, but compared to this performance everything the Stones e

I saw the second London gig from the upper ranks and the sound was pretty thin, trebly, mediocrely mixed and for the most part simply not loud enough. Compared to Cologne 2006 where they created a massive wall of sound, London 2012 left a lot to be desired in terms of sound. I'm sure the London gig sounded way better from the lower ranks, but in an arena I expect crystal clear and massive s

Indeed. Fanastic tour. Mick and Ronnie are in great shape, Mick Taylor is finally back and Keith is focused at least although his playing is still quite rusty. I didn't expect they could still pull off a tour like that. I'd love to see it extended to 100+ shows!

QuoteVoodooLounge13 Do we know how the tour is doing, or do they typically not release this info until well after the tour is over? I ask because each week I look at the top 20 US tours in the paper, and the Stones have yet to be listed a single time since this little mini tour began...

QuoteThrylan On a thread similar to this one, the general consensus was no. Most seem to prefer a more hard hitting straight forward rocker, generally something with a hard hitting open G intro. Faves were JJF,HTW,SFM,BS,STU....etc. One of the big advantages to this is you take a predictable 8 minute warhorse, trim the fat, get it out of the way and shake up the backend. People were generally pos

Quotedrbryant I agree that it's weak as an opener. If they feel compelled to use an old tune, I would much prefer Last Time or Around and Around, both of which are legit "historical" choices. True, Last Time could work as well. Maybe It's All Over Now, too. Heck, even I Wanna Be Your Man was much better (I actually really enjoyed it!). None of these are truly in-your-face

QuoteOpenGspot It's a brilliant choice as an opener for three reasons. First it was their second number one single in the U.S., the first being Satisfaction - which they hold onto for the encore. Second is the uptempo feel of the song that gets everyone grooving. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, it shows the longevity of their career and how long they've been rocking. Performing a

Quoteflacnvinyl Your post is completely correct. I love the way they play it this tour, great song.. but they should really open with Start Me Up. Great Keith riff, Ronnie gets a solo right out the gate, singalong lyrics.. that or Little Queenie! Yeah, Start Me Up or a Chuck song + a great solo would be way better. Or Sympathy or Paint it Black. Something that everyone immediately recognizes a

I've only seen the stones live in the 02 arena last year, but have been listening to all the youtube videos. While I love the tour and the setlists so far, I think their eagerness to experiment hasn't worked out well with the opening song this time. IMO, Get Off Of My Cloud is a very poor choice as opener. First, the 2012/13 version is a pretty poor rendition and actually is has neve

QuoteTurning To Gold QuoteThatsWhatISay I think it's safe to say that this tour wouldn't have happened if things were that bad between Mick and Keith. It's still very early in the tour and Mick and Keith are probably hyperfocused to deliver and not to hold hands. The older they get, the more effort it takes them to sound like a tight band. Especially Mick is very serious about his performance so I'm not suprised he looks as if he isolates himself from the rest of the band. Anyhow, I'm sure they will interact more once they start

Why would they announce all the additional shows if sales were so poor? I don't remember exactely when the first set of shows was announced and how promptly the other dates followed, but I suppose additional shows weren't announced until it was clear that the first date in a particular city was selling well. At least that would make the most sense. Also how would anyone know how well

Quotesuperrevvy QuoteThatsWhatISay Or how do you think a relatively new artist like Adele got her ~$50 mio. net worth? Certainly not with the two tiny tours she did so far. True. But NOT from record sales either, for the most part. For the umpteenth time, RADIO is where all the money is these days. Radio play in over a hundred countries, not just the US and UK like in the old days. Radio

QuoteGasLightStreet At some point, sure, the Stones will make money from it but you have to consider the region GRRR! is selling, which is in a lot of areas around the world, and what it takes to get the album there, pressed in different languages etc. UMe needs to recoup the money they spent on advertising - and having the first thing on Youtube come up and then the pop up ads on Youtube and sid

QuoteGasLightStreet The Stones haven't made money selling records for years, only the record labels have - and it hasn't been much. You can bet your ass they are making some millions with it. With all the different editions I would estimate the average price per unit sold at $30 or higher. That's already more than $30 mio after a few weeks on the shelves and this number will clim

QuoteGasLightStreet So you like loud no dymanics brickwalled distorted music. The ABKCO remasters were done about as good as one could do (it seems) and the Virgin remasters to this day are a thousand times better than the UMe remasters - which basically destroyed the entire 1971-2005 catalogue sound quality wise (and the recent reissues with the bonus albums). The UMe of Some Girls is terrible

QuoteGasLightStreet Unfortunately due to the mastering of the compilation it is not a worthy representation of their work. I like remastered songs as it sweeps a little bit dust from these old recordings. I found that the songs on GRRR sounded fresher than on the original recordings. An audiophile might have a different opinion saying e.g. the songs now lack dynamics. But for me as a laymen I

Quote I think there are two key negatives to the product that are hurting sales. 1. The title. It would be embarrassing walking into a record store (actually do they even exist anymore?) and asking for the cd. 2. The cover: If you can bring yourself to picking up the cd, you still have to pay for it, and deal with the smirk of that Gen Y sales clerk picking it up with a bemused look on hi
