Quote We seem to be in disagreement on this. In what way? That the Gorilla attracted attention? It most certainly did. Compare it to a boring album cover like the one from Bigger Bang and guess what draws more attention on the shelves in music stores or as an advertisement poster on the streets...

QuoteGasLightStreet QuoteThatsWhatISayI also think the whole makeup with the Gorilla theme helped the sales a lot. And you bought it, right? Because you like big monkeys on album covers? THAT is a plus for record sales? Undercover had a much better cover. It sold more copies. You may have a point - only backwards. Yes, I bought the 80-tracks edition because I liked the song selection and

Quoteuhbuhgullayew QuoteThatsWhatISay I also think the whole makeup with the Gorilla theme helped the sales a lot. Are you suggesting that people bought the CD just to get the artwork? No, but it arouses attention (in a positive way), because it's a very unusual yet interesting theme. The standard advertisement posters are easily overlooked. But it's hard to overlook that gorill

That figure is even more astonishing if you keep in mind that GRRR! is considerably more expensive than the ordinary 1CD album which sells for $10 - $15. I also think the whole makeup with the Gorilla theme helped the sales a lot.

I can't imagine any other band or artist outnumbers the Stones in this respect. As a side note, the 4,68 mio. from the ABB tour do definitely NOT include the Rio show! That adds another 1,2 - 2 mio. Also Voodoo attendance was more likely 7 mio as opposed to 6,5 for reasons Gazza pointed out. Thus the Stones have played to approx. 40 mio people or even slightly more by now with another fe

Quoteab I saw them a bunch. It was always a minimal spectacle with next to no production values. They might as well have been playing on a table. Tickets have always been reasonably priced. Jagger usually stood completely still all night. So you know where Liam Gallagher got his moves. And don't believe any of that talk about this Ron Wood fellow: Mick Taylor never left the band

From wikipedia ( ): "The tour marked a high point in the popularity of Guns N' Roses, with a total of over 7 million[1] fans attending, and accompanied by high worldwide album sales." Unfortunately, the reference provided is not online.

If the Stones annouce their next world tour as their farewell tour, play solely in stadiums, charge reasonable ticket prices, play considerably more shows than U2 and maybe put Wyman or Taylor onboard they could even break this record. Certainly not with the same amount of shows, but they could do it nonetheless. I mean looking back at the ABB with its ridiculously high ticket prices and the fac

QuoteHavo "Exile on main street" no. 7 in Germany today. 3---6---7 Now thats a moderate drop Although I doubt you have to sell more than 4.000 - 5.000 copies to get to #7 in Germany nowadays. Maybe even less. Anyway, I think nobody expected that Exile would sell that good worldwide. Very respectable!

Thats still a respectable number I think. Although going from #2 ---> #7 in the US charts over the course of just one week is quite a huge drop

I was surprised to see this figure, because other charts list Exile with 163.000 sold copies worldwide. I wonder which figure is right. Quite a huge difference.

The reason why I always look at Stones #1 chart positions with mixed feelings is because I know they will quickly drop. The Stones fan base is still huge enough to get them to the peak against relatively weak selling artists, but the downfall is always rapid. They have a hard time reaching younger people with their music, getting them out to the music stores actually buying their albums. Unfortun

QuoteHavo Anybody of you know the sales in Germany?? I don't know why such figures are never made public in Germany. Why can't they just put the sales figures behind the chart entries or at least make them easily accessible elsewhere. I mean it's not a big secret...

Yes, sales are a shame, not only those of the Stones, but rather in general. I think 164.000 is decent, but I hoped it would at least break the 200.000 barrier. After all, it's a reissue. Also don't forget that it's a double album in a "deluxe" edition which makes it more expensive than the ordinary single disc album.

Actually, having a closer look at the figures, U2 grossed 299.000.000$ after having played to 3.000.000 paying people. Thats great, but nothing that can't be surpassed by the Stones. This wiki states that the ABB attendance was around 4,7mio. I don't know if this includes the Rio concert which was free. If it does then the Stones grossed almost $560mio with only around 3 - 3.5 mio. pa
