A few days have gone by now since the Mickster graced my tv screen at the grammys. I had been hesistant to write anything because I had mixed feelings about it. Overall, I thought Mick was certainly the highlight of the show (of course I may be a little biased here). From the audiences perspective, I can speculate that they were wowed by Mick's performance, but maybe not for all the right re

As long as you are cutting to the chase, from where I sit, whether the Rolling Stones tour or not, it's gonna have little to do with what Keith has said about Jagger in his book, and MUCH more to do with the economics of touring...If the economy turns around and people have money to spend, the probability of a tour increases. Regarding the Jagger & Richards relationship, if you have don

There have been many posts of late wondering of the Stones future, whether they will release new material and/or will tour. I know that there are many people who visit this site who are still hopeful that the Stones have one more tour in them to give. I, for one, think the odds are against them, and if it means that they embarass the hell out of themselves (due to age and/or health reasons), I ho

excellent post.... QuoteSwayStones January 13, 2011 The Rolling Stones are one of the world’s most famous and longest-lived rock bands. They’ve sold over 200 million albums, grossed over $2 billion since 1989 and even as members of the band approach the age of 70, they continue to perform to millions of adoring fans worldwide. (Their most recent concert tour earned over $500 million.) Alth

Although I have always liked Hampton (primarily for the sound quality), I would not consider it to be the best performance from the 1980's. I know I'll get heat from others, but I am going to go on a limb and argue that the pay per view Atlantic City 1989 blows away Hampton, Virginia for being one of the truly better performances in the last 20 years...Now before I'm crucified by t

In the later 1980's, Mick Taylor came to my hometown of Rochester, NY for some music event and stopped into our well known local record store- the House of Guitars. As Taylor's appearance was not well publicized, not very many people showed up or knew who Mick was. Anyway, he signed my copy of Get Yer Ya Yas Out. I asked him point blank: Do you have any regrets about leaving? From my re

There is gonna come a time when we as fans are going to have to get used to the idea that there won't be a functioning Rolling Stones rock group around to entertain us. As a fan, I feel very fortunate to have seen some great shows and acquired some great music which has provided me many, many hours of joy and served as a soundtrack for my life ("We learned more from a three minute recor

....I was blessed with a Bruce Springsteen Christmas!!! After weeks of eyeing that beautiful package which I speculated contained the Promise CD/DVD box set all wrapped up under the Christmas tree, the wait was over! My wife had gotten me the perfect gift and I opened it up with the same relish and glee that Ralphie probably experienced unwrapping the BB gun in A Christmas Story. At this point,

Quote24FPS For me, ironically, it was an article on the Rolling Stones themselves that degraded the magazine in my eyes. They panned the Some Girls album in '78, and then savaged the summer tour. I think they headlined the '78 Summer Tour as 'Shattered'. It was reported at the time that Jagger was pissed, told Wenner that RS would not have access to the band in the future, and

Quotefrankotero Yeah, that's cool Paul remembered John like that. And this band is smoking hot. Hope they'll stay with him to the end. ditto the sentiments on Paul's band. From various live appearances I have seen on tv or video I have collected of Paul over the last several years, it appears that his current band has invigorated him.... PS- as an older music fan, I admit that I

I have always appreciated Stripped, because from my perspective, it was a unique sort of Stones album. But once again, the Stones missed the mark and could have done more with this project. For me, it does not gel putting studio tracks together with live tracks, and comes across a hodge podge album... if this should ever get re-released in an expanded format, the Stones should re-configure Stripp

I was recently skimming through Bill German's book "Under Their Thumb", having put it aside for awhile. During the time that Bill would drop in on Keith in the mid 80's who was working on Dirty Work, Keith conveyed to Bill (pg 84) that "albums can be made or broken based on the order of songs." That got me to thinking, what if albums like Goats Head Soup had been twe

Quote24FPS From a very underrated album. A very nice bounceback from the Dirty Work mess. ....you'll get no argument from me on that assessment....along with one of Keith's finest songs & vocal in his later day career- Slipping Away, two great ballads on that album....

At the suggestion of others on this board, I sought out A Tree With Roots and acquired a copy of it.. Boy, there was quite a lot of material to listen to! AS A WHOLE, I thought the collection of tunes was great, but I also thought (from my perspective) that there was a significant amount of filler that didn't quite do it for me...However, there were a few choice nuggets in this wealth of mat

Quotelougio I have an interesting answer to this question. I remember the comments of a friend of mine after he saw Shine a Light. This is a guy that likes the Stones but is not really a true fan like us and has only seen them in concert twice. His comment on Shine a Light was "I didn't like it,they played too many songs that I was not familiar with". I will go to several shows no

QuoteDGA35 I didn't check the running time compared to the old VHS but the new DVD is definitely more sped up. It's the first thing I noticed when UMT started and then I skipped to each song and sure enough, all are too fast. I'm glad this topic was brought up because I thought I was imagining things after I watched LSTNT. Satisfaction in particular sounded especially fast...

There was a post a couple days ago regarding members wishlists for unreleased Dylan concert/studio material that have yet to see the light of day...A couple people mentioned The Basement Tapes. A couple comments about the DVD release of Let's Spend the Night Together. I have not seen this movie in many years. Even though there are no extras, I thought the picture quality was pretty sharp and clear for a movie from the early 80's. I thought the audio was satisfactory to good- not brilliant by any means. What I hated then as I do now are the edits, especially on Let It Bleed (ta

QuoteGazza Oh they were great shows, dont get me wrong, but I personally preferred the tours that preceded it and the tours from the last decade. Its just not a tour I listen to a lot these days. I have the Buffalo show from 25.9.84 - it's a real marathon! The shows I saw on that tour were the first two from the European tour in early June '85 - Slane Castle and Newcastle. Gazza- R

A remarkable step to release that record as it was when he was on the brink of superstardom - and those songs were the highlights of the '84/85 tour for me. Not my favourite tour, but the 'Nebraska' songs done with the band are the ones I always go back to." Gazza-I don't know what shows you may have seen on the Bo
