QuoteNikolai Huh? You're saying that he recorded the album (ie, Jan 3-4, 1982 - the versions that were released), then re-recorded the songs with the band and THEN re-recorded them acoustically, before ditching the last acoustic session as well? Yup. I've read it more than once - the Dave Marsh book, and the 33 1/3 book on BITUSA. Don't forget how productive he was in that

I typically do not find myself responding to these types of threads, but I have to say that this is the biggest bunch of crap that I have read on this website in quite some time. Tour or no tour-this will not be decided by Keith's new book...just from all the various threads posted on this website, one sound will ring very clear at Barnes & Noble- and that is all the cash registers going

Since we started our petition a couple days ago, we've been getting a steady stream of signatures...thank you to all who have contributed from this board. We are encouraging Stones fans (and there are many) from around the world to get involved. Talk to others, spread the word on other sites, etc.. Obviously, the more signatures we get, the more of an impact it will make towards demonstratin

This is a follow-up to my previous post entitled "Ya Yas Project Revisited" from a week or so ago. Myself and several fellow Stones fans from another board have crafted a very generic petition that went up yesterday and should appeal to the masses. Please keep in mind that we may not get complete consensus about what should and should not get released from all Stones fans which is why

Lynd8-as long as your talking about polls, my next post was going to be along the lines of a general survey of sorts...Since there is so much material (and we might not get agreement from everyone on this about their preferences), do people on this board prefer to acquire material from the early years 63-70 (i.e. ABKCO/Decca/London) or from the time frame of when the Stones got their own label 19

JumpingKentFlash- your observations are certainly valid. But once again, the re-release of Ya Yas (along with the content of what was released on the discs) certainly followed the time line of our petition and/or what was requested on said petition... My point here is pretty simple: With the re-release of Exile and fans/reviewers response to it, THIS MAY BE THE BEST OPPORTUNITY TO FOLLOW UP wi

Hi and I'm hoping (mostly) everyone is enjoying the re-issue and re-discovery of Exile on Main Street-a Stones classic. I mostly read rather than post on this site unless something worth noting strikes my fancy. For those who don't know me, I'm one of the older Stones fan who has seen at least one Stones show on every tour since 1972. I chose not to see any shows from the Bigger Ba

BluzDude- thanks for posting this---I never knew that my brother's name (Mike Sigel) was posted in the name of sports figures who grew up in Rochester in this wikipedia article- just an FYI- he is a world famous pool player who during the 1980's taught Tom Cruise how to shoot pool in the movie the Color of Money...

....speaking of the Chesterfield Kings...two of the members of that band used to work at the legendary House of Guitars that was approximately three minutes up the street from my house.... it was at the House of Guitars during the later 1980's that Mick Taylor came into the store (he was in town for some music festival?) and he signed my vinyl copy of Get Yer Ya Yas Out...all of 20 people s

MSG 1969 (as featured in Gimme Shelter) is probably the best! For my money, the last time the Stones performed Jack Flash with any conviction and passion was probably on the 89 tour (the version from the broadcast of Atlantic City 89 ain't too shabby either)..

QuoteRockman Vaults won't save us .... ain't no use goin' back ...new album ....new album? Oh right, so the Stones can repeat what they did (at least towards the last half of) the Bigger Bang tour and play a setlist consisting of two new songs padded with stale warhorses?? Yep, makes me want to plunk down between $300-$400 to see them....

Quoteheadly123 I don't think I would be terribly broken up if they actually came out and called it a day . I think I would actually prefer that they did. Then there would be no more half ass playing by Keith and Ronnie ( who by the way seems to have completely lost his mind) . And no more 20 people on stage posing as the Rolling Stones. Let;s face it. The can't cut it anymore and the sh

Although I saw Elvis in his declining years (approximately 6 months before he died?) in my hometown of Rochester, NY, the guy still demonstrated moments of greatness. Wen he didn't forget the words to some tunes, his voice was strong and powerful. What really amazed me was the way he could tackle and pull off quite amazingly different musical styles (country, gospel, rock and roll) during th

Quotemr edward Probably the only realy interesting new thing of the decade was the Licks formula and the great Four Flicks release. All the other prjects and releases felt like routine business and a lot of releases deserved extra attention: Live Licks, Rarities and A Bigger Bang. Biggest Bang was another Four Flicks, but less goodm as was the tour it documented. The decade showed a rapid dec

I've read several of these posts regarding the topic of "why tour?" Several of the responses are very articulate and insightful. Unless the Stones return with a different type of show than what they have been peddling for the last 10-15 years, I won't be going. I am one of the few people who are advocating that they not return to the stage.. I don't want to see my favorit

40 years ago the Stones took the stage at Madison Square Garden for the first of two nights (per Karnbach the Stones performed three shows over the two nights) in New York that would be recorded for Get Yer Ya Yas Out!! ...still can't believe those shows are 40 years old!!!

Per a review of the Oakland, California show by Greil Marcus in Rolling Stone, No.48, "Jagger was dressed right out of Sympathy for the Devil....Black,tight pants with silver studs up the side; a black blouse with a Leo sign on it. He wore an Uncle Sam hat out of Ginsberg and a red scarf that might have been ten feet long."

I for one think the 78 versions of Honky Tonk Women are more spirited and energetic than the 75-76 versions. However, the other night I was watching Gimme Shelter which I had not seen in a quite a while and I got such a shit eating grin on my face watching the segment of Mick Jagger performing Honky Tonk Women at Madison Square Garden in 1969 that it made me realize that this segment was indeed a

Let's see..... with exception of the Bigger Bang tour, I caught the Stones at least once on every tour since 1972, bought all their records (and later CDs), spent a fortune on tickets, hotel rooms, travel, Stones related books, magazines, and of course-dropped serious money on rarities and bootlegs!!! I've probably helped the Stones to live a lifestyle that you and I can only dream of!!

Oh boy!! Another new Las Vegas style tour that will feature 2 songs from their latest album (why even record a new album?) and padded with the same warhorses that are sounding worse with every tour! To Mick and the boys- I would rather see you concentrate your efforts on releasing studio & concert material from the vaults before I die!

I have to agree with several other posts regarding Honky Tonk Women...That particular song USED to be one of my favorites to hear in concert and on every tour since Steel Wheels it has just gotten painfully awful to listen to...The piano solo and extending of that song just turns into a dreadful Las Vegas shlock number (LOL).... Rocks Off to my ears has never really made a smooth transition f

Per the advertisements and posts that I have been reading, I am happy beyond belief that ABKCO is going to release an expanded version of Ya Yas. Unfortunately, even though I would have liked a COMPLETE show, I am happy for what we are getting- great sounding, unreleased bonus tracks (that I will most likely compile into a complete 1969 show of my own to listen to with the original running order

Although I have always been a fan of the Ya Yas version of Rambler, I would have to say that Brussels is in a league all its own. That particular version is downright scary, and epic at that! I still can't believe after all these years of listening to Brussels that the Stones could sound that good! Sadly, even though they would have their moments of brilliance on subsequent tours, after this

I get a chuckle when I read some of these posts because it just goes to show you that music, just like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder...For instance, Doxa's quote that the Stones are sloppy and uninspired at the Rock and Roll circus but yet are "better and tighter" at Hyde Park...Sorry, I can't agree with that. Although there are a fair share of folks who think the Ston
