Got through watching the Wiltern show on Bluray. Jagger appears to be having a good night on stage. I think the CDs could have been mixed a little better and cleaner as far as sound fidelity. What makes this release, like the El Mocambo, a nice collectable worthy of picking up, is the song selection (Everybody Needs somebody to Love, That's How Strong My Love Is, No Expectations) given the s

I've been playing guitar since I was 15 or 16. I have accumulated a ton of great guitar books which are much better today than when I first started out. I don't read music very well but many of the books utilize tabulator for finger placement and also have CDs and/or you can download the music that comes with the book on-line. With regards to a first guitar, don't allow yourself

Happy belated b day to an exceptional guitar player -Mick Taylor. I, like a lot of Stones fans relish the time he was with them (and not long enough as far as I am concerned). I also have fond memories of meeting Mick Taylor in my hometown in upstate New York. He was so gracious and kind in our interaction together. Thank you Mick for your great contribution to the Stones musical evolution!

QuoteThe Joker Is Ya yas JJF version the only (overdubbed) that features the one-time only "It's alllllllllll right" instead of "It's all right, It's all right" ? They erase the MSG original vocal to make it sound more like the JJF studio version? After listening to the MSG 69 copyright dump tracks that were dropped at the end of 12/19, in partic

Quoteliddas Never understood why people consider the 89/90 tour to be a sort of recreation of the studio versions. Only because Devil returns to be a piano driven song? Very simply it was Jagger's 88 solo show template adapted to the stones. And Jagger's solo show was heavily influenced by what the big acts of the time where doing (Jackson, Madonna, Police, Prince, Bowie etc.), by

QuoteProfessorWolf i have all three and i prefer the cbs one (i generally do with all of there albums) because it sounds closest to the vinyl to me however the virgin version is cleaner and maybe a bit more detailed to my ears but it loses something from the cbs version that i think is important to the this album a gritty, murky, rawness that the original vinyl release had to it the uni

I don't know if this has been posted before but I found this video by Alex Tilley on U Tube by accident about 5 years ago and i got to say IMHO that of all of the covers of Bruce Springsteen's Atlantic City that I have heard over the years, this one is at the top of the crop. I keep coming back to it. Her voice and her interpretation of this tune is simply extraordinary! Nice job young

QuoteMathijs QuoteSighunt Very interesting. There is certainly a lot of credibility to what you report. It is not my intention to lead people on with false information. I just reported what has been told to me and shared it. The last thing I want to do is give people false hope about what MSG footage exists or not. And if I did so, i will apologize to the whole Stones fan community who visit t

QuoteMathijs QuoteSighunt Just as a follow-up to this conversation, I received an e-mail from former IORR poster, Tim aka Plexi who saw this thread and clarified to me that Doug Potash (Stones Doug), founder and head of Shidoobee, told Plexi per his conversation with Albert Maysles that ALL MSG shows were filmed in their entirety. Doug was the one who organized the event with Albert Maysles in

QuoteDoxa Inspired by this thread, I re-listened FLASHPOINT - something I have not done during this century... All I really know about those times are the the filmed Atlantic City, Tokyo and Barcelona shows (plus the MAX thing) and none of them, to be honest, is any big favorite of mine. However, my FLASHPOINT experience was based solely on the vinyl version (plus the singles). I didn't h

QuoteGasLightStreet Quotefilstan Wonderful. Even the grainy footage does not detract from the power of where the band was at, and where the music was heading as this tour progressed. While I thought they kicked ass in Chicago where I saw them in 69, as Mick said" we really didn't get it on until Detroit". Please release more music/video from this tour, while we are still alive

Quotedoitywoik Quotestevecardi ... and the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour(s) are among my all-time favorite Stones performances. Same here, their musical performance was absolutely top on those tours. Yet I can't really warm to Flashpoint. The production is a bit sterile, doesn't really sound like a live album to me. Also the choice of songs is not optimal IMHO, 2000 Light Years, Gimm

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteSpud QuoteGasLightStreet I get it. We get used to what we hear. But grateful it finally got released: it's pretty damn good regardless. So much more they could've done. Misty Roads for one. They finished those blues tunes... really? Not sure why the time, AHEM, effort, was put in to the better songs. Quite so . I love the whole album . C

QuoteSomeGuy Didn't Spanish Tony claim in his book that the Ya-Ya thingy was taken from some voodoo stuff? I always assumed that The title Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out was taken from a Blind Boy Fuller tune, the lyrics of which were "Now you got to leave my house this morning, don't I'll throw your yas yas out o' door".

My wife and I went to see her in concert movie (I'd never pay the kind of bucks to see her shows so I figured this would be the next best thing and way cheaper to boot!) last weekend. Her music is certainly not my cup of tea and I only knew maybe 3-4 of her tunes, but I have to say that I was pretty impressed with the show that she puts on for three hours. You may not like her music, but the

The full album was posted on U Tube via RadioRock and I just got through listening to the whole thing this morning. My first impression was generally favorable. I do feel that this is arguably one of their better later day studio efforts. Upon first listen, I would give it a solid 8/10 (or if we were in grade school, we would grade it as a B minus effort). A couple of the tracks I like: Bite My H

Quotedkwalika I was wondering how they choose their openers. I've seen some great ones: Pretenders, Eagles; and some new acts that I liked: St. Paul and the Broken Bones and Wide Mouth Mason. One of the most memorable Stones shows i saw was on the Licks tour in Philly when the Pretenders opened up for them. Great show!

Another article from Billboard that popped up on my phone. Boy, reading all these reviews about U2's opening night and the venue they are playing in has really piqued my interest. Sad that Larry isn't with them because that would have made this even more extraordinary. I saw U2 on the Zoo Tv tour in Canada in 1992 and I would put that show in the top ten of any concert I have eve

QuoteBig Al Well, as I mentioned in my previous post, the guitar has arrived. First impressions: wow. Honestly, I do not feel I have held, or strummed a guitar of quite such quality. I used to own a Mexican, 50’s-reisue Fender Stratocaster, but this instrument feels nicer. It resonates with quality and craftmanship. I do wonder how many ‘experts’ could be hoodwinked into thinking it is a genuine
