Thanks For the post GJB Mr. D has been on my Stones live bucket list for ever. I think they only played it 3 or 4 times ever and that was during the 73 European tour. I have a couple of the live Boot versions and one of them is in my top 5 all time live Stones songs. I love playing it for Stones fans who never heard it before , it always blows them away.

They played it nearly the whole European 1973 tour.

Mail send by Scorpio about the Hamburg show. Police said 15000 Fans were listeing outside the gates:

Nach einem stilechten “Moin Hamburch” zur Begrüßung folgte eine Setlist voller Klassiker aus der 55-jährigen Bandgeschichte wie „Tumbling Dice“, „Play With Fire“, „You Can’t Always Get What You Want“, „Under My Thumb”, „Paint It Black“, „Honky Tonk Woman”, „A Street Fighting Man” und „(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction”, aber auch neue Songs wie „Ride 'Em On Down” und „Just Your Fool”.

WOW what a depressing last 5 pages i read!! I did'nt read the whole thread but it sounds like a bunch of negative weirdo's that were not at the show or were somewhere else maybe they need to be at a Justin Beiber show and listen to pre made up music comming from a computer! These guys are old time Rock'n Roll! They actually play there instuments and they all played good as an opeaner it was the best opeaner i've seen the Stones play and i've seen quite a few! Best Paint it Black i've ever seen completly insane they took that to another level that i've ever heard. The show was excellent and the way it sounds this is going to be a hell of a tour! By the way to all this Keith bashing you guys would not even know how to play his guitar all his guitar's are in different tunnings that's what great musicians do! that's why it might sound out of tune to you because you are not on his level!
well the last part about tunings, guitar, etc. is trump-style-BS. quite entertaining! you just need a minimum of musical hearing to realise how terrible his lead-playing is. it's not bashing. i love the man, always did. but someone should really tell him to just focus on his 2-3 chords/song. when he's soloing its freejazz level.

I don't know what some of you guys are on about.
In this clip of Sympathy and IORR, Keith plays fine after the first botched solo.
If this was his worst two numbers he played in 2.5 hours, it wasn't as bad as all that.
He and Ronnie high 5 after SFTD.

Don't worry, Riffle. Keith played fine after the two first songs. He tried a new solo on HTW, but got a bit lost and picked it up again for the ending.

Sure Guitar bastard Keith's tunings are not tuning down to D or even going way far like Linkin Park did they even tuned way down to c that was unheard of at that time but like Page he has alot of standard tune down D's but he also has Sh%& you don't even know where or how to begin to do with it same with Keith that's why he is where he is in rock history near the top from the 100's of riff's he's written and created i don't know why you turn it in to politics ? Politics have no place in playing a guitar you listen to to much fake negative news obviouly! that's why the thread is so negative the way of the world nobody compliments people anymore it's just a dog show treat everybody like sh%& it's called jelousy and anybody listening to a recording from a cell phone and any recording thing for that matter in an audience and makes his opinion on that is a trumped up joke!

Partly true but Ronnie was sober on the Licks Tour and played very well. Not sure how sober he was for ABB but he played very well then too. I think he was at his drunken sloppiest on B2B Tour.

I think he was most away with the fairy's in the 90's
During the Licks Tour he was off and on.
I don't hold it against him, he did what he did, he had his problems with drink and he came through it all.
I just get disappointed that when keith makes mistakes its exaggerated so much.
Ronnie did tours he doesn't even remember, he let the band and the fans down night after night, but Keith is a little off last night and its like everyone jumps on him. I'm sure Keith will come back next show firing on all four cylinders, lets just give him the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe he is past it, but lets not judge him on opining night, why can't people wait and see if he improves before they bash him.
I actually think he played ok last night.
I mean Mick doesn't run about anymore or sing as well as he used to, but he still has something to offer. Charlie is not the same drummer as he was but he is still great. Ronnie is nailing it over the last few years, its brilliant, but do we need to bash keith because he isn't getting better like Ronnie.
Ronnie is a one in a million, that's not keith's fault, keith doesn't get old to spite us, he doesn't do it on purpose. He just is old with arthritis, but he must try so hard to keep up, it must take a lot of effort and bravery.

thumbs up Perfectly said. thumbs up

It was only the first show. Keith takes time to warm up. Literally. Usually he takes off his jacket. He was cold last night. He is not an extrovert like Jagger. That's why he always had to have a strong drink before a show. But since he cut down on the liquor he has to deal soberly with a sudden crowd of 80,000 people. Not easy for a shy guy. Give him time.

Even Under My Thumb and Street Fighting Man are rarely played these days! Wonderful set list and from what I've seen and heard bloody well executed! This feels like a really dark, sleazy show and I can see it getting stronger and stronger as it goes on and a few more surprises too. Well played!

"Play With Fire" had not been performed live in concert since 27 and a half years ago and not in Europe in roughly 50 years.

I would prefer a little bit more energy in the performance of "Play With Fire" like in 1989 and Japan 1990 but, they are now 27 and a half years older than they were then. It's better to have it in there than to have yet another performance of something such as "Dead Flowers" again.

"Sympathy" almost had to be moved towards the beginning of the set. Not a game changer but, like I said,it had to be moved or dropped.

Also nice to have a couple of 'Blue and Lonesome' tracks in there instead of just 20 songs. It might be a good idea to consider some of the other tracks from that album.

"Dancing With Mr. D" was a complete surprise. Personally,I would have preferred "Dance Little Sister" but,I will take any surprise at this point and be grateful that it is a real surprise instead of the business as usual (not actual surprise song) , "Respectable" for an example. I hope that they keep adding them in.

They seem enamored with Out of Control among more recent songs. Why not try I Go Wild or Saint of Me for example?

I wish they would give Miss You a rest.

The fact they shuffle the set list a bit does not cancel the fact that there were
- 8 out of 9 songs from Hot Rocks, disc 2. Although they play SFM relatively rarely, the complete Hot Rocks, disc 2, was played entirely a couple of times during 2014-2016. See e.q. Buenos Aires show-1 La Plata 07-Feb-2016. Actually, HR, disc 2, is a core for their shows for ages, 7 songs per show is a routine. This time they just shuffle them a bit.
- 4 songs from Hot Rocks, disc 1. UMT and PWF surely are relatively rare.
- IORR, TD, MY, SMU are warhorses and appear almost every night.
- OOC was played routinely during 2014-2016. Personally, I call it modern day warhorse, it is not unique these days.
- Happy and Slipping Away. I want somebody call them a surprise and rare.
- 2 songs from B&L.
- Mr.D - a surprise song.

So, basically we got 1 obscurity (Mr. D), 2 new songs, 2 (or 3) rarely played (but still well known from Hot Rocks - UMT, PWF, SFM).

Why so much excitement? The fact they shuffle warhorses? I would say - this is a typical set list.

Wouldn't it be nice, if one night they dropped in Let It Loose. One of their best songs, yet never performed live....even Phish managed to cover it well live, so the Stones could easily do it. Yes, I know, the majority of a Stones audience these days want the greatest hits, but it will be a tragedy if this song is never played at least once in their time.

Otherwise, no surprises really, but from reports they played well and no doubt it was a great spectacle ...which is more what Stones gigs are about these days. Hope everyone enjoyed it.

"Play With Fire" is not "relatively rare". The song had not been performed live in concert since 27 and a half years ago and not in Europe in roughly 50 years.

Even when they performed "Play With Fire" in 1989 ,it had been well over 2 decades since they last played it and then ..... another 27 and half years after the Steel Wheels Tour until the next live performance.

So that puts it in a much different category than "Under My Thumb" and "Street Fighting Man".

They could do a little more as far as changing out "Miss You" and stuff like that but, this is about as good as it is going to get these days in a stadium. Maybe if they start playing clubs and theaters again, there could be more rare live songs but, other than that scenario,it is clear at this point this is the best type of set list that we can reasonably expect.

We will see if it lasts. If the past is any indication, the set list could shrink as the tour goes along. Probably at the cost of at least one 'Blue and Lonesome' song and likely at the cost of any other rare songs.

You call Dead Flowers a song you don't wanna hear "again". I have been to 29 concerts and never have heard it live. 4 "new" songs for me yesterday. That's pretty good.

It was stripped down and hauntingly beautiful - as opposed to the non-dynamic synth/strings-heavy 1989-version, imo.
