On HDTRACKS it's available at 192/24 for 20$ more than 96/24.

While on HDtracks 192kHz/24bit is $186.98, on Acoustic Sounds 192kHz/24bit is $184.98 and on ProStudioMasters 192kHz/24bit is $161.99.

HDtracks has currently a 20%-off coupon code 'HDSEPT30' which expires 03-Oct-2016, 11:59pm.

But in all 3 Stores it's 'Album only' - no individual Tracks available. Unfortunately no HD versions at the moment on Qobuz.com or Highresaudio.com.

Some individual Tracks in 96kHz/24bit are available on the US-website of [us.7digital.com] .

One question.

I'm really enjoying the vinyl set. On the external shrink-wrap attached sticker and download card , it states "numbered limited edition"

(I ordered from universal to get the 9 x 7")

I can't see a number anywhere ? anyone else found a number ?

I still wonder about all the fuss with Stones in mono? That's the way they always been heard up until 1966 when the first stereo album was released. I hope for, but guess it will never happen, a stereo box. If the session tapes are still in good condition it may happen. The bad stereo mixes ( if they are) can be made the way stereo mixes a made today. At least all recordings from Chess and RCA should be possible to mix in stereo.

The songs from Chess were recorded in stereo.

Yes but not all of them have been released in stereo

Which Chess songs are in stereo and are they made into mono for this release?

I am really annoyed. I paid £345 from the uDisxover store and now it's £289 on Amazon. I have asked uDiscover to either cancel my order or give me a credit voucher for the difference. Really dodgy and really annoying to see the price drop so much - I should have waited!

All of the Chess recordings were recorded on 3 or 4 track, then mixed to stereo in 1964/65, but it seems they were all released in mono (the stereo mixed folded in to mono) in 60's.

Yes, as they were when originally released.

With uDiscover you have ordered the 7" bundle with the Vinyl set,
Amazon are not offering this.

Amazing full rich and punchy mono sound but don't throw away your original albums because the look, feel and smell of the mono edition doesn't come even close the original.
There's simply nothing like putting your original open Decca or London record on the turntable.. Just compare the labels..Abkco on the label is simply not right, its all too clean and too new..
Despite this, the sound is amazing, listening to it all day long...smiling smiley

Yes, as they were when originally released.

All of the 1964 songs were mixed to stereo:

It's All Over Now
If You Need Me
Empty Heart
2120 South Michigan Ave
Confessin' The Blues
Around And Around
Down The Road Apiece
I Can't Be Satisfied
Look What You've Done
What A Shame
Time Is On My Side

Look What You've Done was issued in stereo on December's Children. The remaining songs were originally only issued in mono or fake stereo. Starting in the late '60s or early '70s, however, the stereo mixes started showing up on various releases, such as the remastered Big Hits.

The mono "mixes" are just reductions of the stereo mixes; no dedicated mono mixes exist, or at least have been released.

The 1965 Chess tracks have never been issued in stereo. My suspicion is that those were not mixed at Chess, and thus were only mixed to mono.

Your explanations are correct: I'll never throw away my originals.
The labels are not confirm with the originals.

I've been wondering if anyone had purchased the Japanese version of the CD set.

This is what I've found on eBay:

This is factory sealed 15 titles - 7 inch Mini LP SHM-CD box.
Coming with promo 7" EP vinyl + 7" file folder x 3pcs !!!
(UK 1st, 2nd 3rd cover art file folders)
"SUPER HIGH MATERIAL CD" can play on all CD players!
2016 Japanese Digital Mastering !!!
Coming with 48-page booklet and obis faithfully replicating the obis
with the first pressing Japanese LPs
CD box and promos are made in JAPAN.
(vinyl disc is not made in Japan)
Promo 7" EP is an officially sanctioned release,
delivered only at Disk Union.

Does it include the English language booklet?

Is the Japanese box, sleeves etc. better quality (material, printing)?

The big difference is that it has SHM-CD's, which the US/UK releases do not have. Correct?

What is a file folder?

If I buy a Japanese 'In Mono' box, it will come with the extras (promo 7" EP vinyl + 7" file folder x 3pcs )?

2016 Japanese Digital Mastering??? Meaning SHM-CD mastering?

FINALLY, but most importantly:

The 'In Mono' set (US/UK/Japan) is advertised as a Limited Edition release. HOW LIMITED IS IT? Is limited to a known number of sets? The Paul McCartney album boxes were all individually numbered -- the way it should be when it comes to a big name in the music business.

100.000 sets could mean limited, couldn't it? But my understanding of 'limited edition' is a more strictly controlled number.

(Bo Diddley's 3x2CD sets' first part -- I'm a Man - Complete Chess Masters -- is a limited edition, which is very difficult to find now. So are the Rolling Stones: Greatest Albums sets coming from Japan. Two good examples of what 'Limited Edition' means.)

Do we have an idea how limited the CD set is?

I would like to see some detailed analysis as to which of the mono mixes are brand-new for the first time and available only to this box set.

Hi Hendrik,

I would love to hear from you a judgement about the mono releases. Especially Aftermath, Buttons , Satanic and parts of Beggars: are these the decent mono mixes like the expensive original pressings or are these just fold downs.
Most collectors might know the case of Satanic is even more different: only the first uk-pressings had a decent mono mix, later 60`s mono-pressings contained just a fold down..

Thank you in advance,

Tom

Indeed amazing sound on the vinyls. This is really worth the money.
Unfortunately though my copy of beggars has a scratch in jigsaw puzzle..
Also i cannot find the download card.
I also did not find a 45rpm in the box. Are you supposed to receive one with it?
Anybody who had similar experiences?

In a few words. Japanese SHM set is better quality in terms of materials. It has better booklets/sleeves and packaging. It is packed in 7" sleeves with extra fixture for CD. It has both English and Japanese booklets. It is about 200 Euros more expensive. Digital content (mastering) is the same.

The packaging on the vinyl box i got in Europe is quite cheap and it even doesn't have the 3d TSMR.
Also the "Buttons" on between the buttons aren't like on the original one.
Still the package is absolutely worth the money. The sound on the vinyls is great and noticeably improved from my stereo vinyls bought in the 80s. Especially Bill comes through much more clearly.

So the CD set is not a limited edition, it seems. Only the vinyl set.
