Promoter Frontier Touring has issued a short statement to say the Rolling Stones will play in Sydney on Wednesday, allaying fears the great rock band's tour may be in turmoil after Saturday's Hanging Rock concert was cancelled due to Mick Jagger's throat infection.
"Remaining shows are proceeding as scheduled, we've had no update outside of this," a Frontier spokeswoman exclusively told Fairfax.
The band confirmed this on Facebook on Monday, asking fans to nominate a song for the evening's set-list. One wag, Adam Taylor, replied "How about Hanging Rock blues?"
Last Friday the Hanging Rock show was cancelled a day out from the gig. A message was posted on the group's website and the same information was released through social media. A Frontier spokesperson told Fairfax: "The Rolling Stones are incredibly disappointed to cancel the Hanging Rock gig and to disappoint their fans but were left with no other option."
But there has been no follow-up to the shock Hanging Rock cancellation, which has not been well received by passionate Stones fans gutted the Hanging Rock concert had been cancelled for a second time with no clarification about whether the show might be rescheduled. Frontier Touring did not respond on Monday when asked whether or not there would be a rescheduled show.
Fan Josh Cohen penned "An open letter to Mr. Mick Jagger" on the Rolling Stones Facebook page on Sunday which resonated with many fans upset over the lack of communication after the cancellation.
"No one can help getting sick, Mick Jagger, but you and/or the band still have remained faceless, by making this statement.
"The fans, all of us have been understanding, supportive through your tragedy, and now sickness, and you can still see we are. We have dignified you with human kindness and acknowledgement, as fans thats all we want too. We understand you are a human being, but so are we.
"The way the cancelling of Hanging Rock was handled, and to make it worse without restitution of another show, SOME TIME, soon, with all the hopes, dreams, money, time, albums bought, shows attended, and everything else so many people not just your fans had, in the promise to return for this show, is why so many of us are disappointed and angry."
Another fan, Leo Valk echoed Cohen's sentiments: "If my information is correct, and I believe it is, it is quite likely that the Hanging Rock concert wil be the only concert of your "50 & Counting" up to the "14 On Fire tour", that is cancelled twice and not rescheduled.
"With all respect, Sir Mick, I believe that you can make this concert happen. I know: 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' could be applicable here, but your loyal fans believe that phrase doesn't necessarily go for you!"

So do you think there is any chance that this will be rescheduled?

Oh, so they already said that it definitely won't be rescheduled. Must have missed that.
Ok, then one more question... do you think this will be the last time they are ever in Australia?

To be honest, I think this is the last tour. They might do shows later on in big cities like London, NYC, LA, but let's be realistic about this. There will not be that many world tours after this one for the Stones.

Yes poor Mick, my heart really goes out to him - this terrible past year and now more stress with throat issues, cancellations and insurance troubles.
Keith's note was weirdly flippant, although quite Keith-like. I bet he's been making the most of Mick being banned from speaking for a week!

I wonder if the people still complaining about the fact the show isn't getting re-scheduled would be able to get over this faster if Jagger had just died instead. I mean, yes, some of you have waited your entire lives to see the Stones and now unfortunately you won't get the chance. That's truly disappointing. We understand that. Apparently a throat infection for a 71 year old man whose long time girl friend committed suicide earlier in the year gives you no great pause to accept what has happened and the decisions made. But no wait, if he were dead maybe you'd just clamor for Keith, Ronnie and Bernard to sing instead.

Such a strange response...I thought only us Americans were that self absorbed. BV has it right, you don't go to Hawaii, it happens to rain & then sulk the rest of the vacation.
