With Taylor's decreased role since earlier in the year when I purchased my Hanging Rock ticket, it's no great loss to me. More of the same I saw in 2006 already.

Get a refund. Perfectly timed to buy the LA Friday DVD released in the next week or so.

So no matter what, The Stones will get some Xmas cash from me. Maybe funds their retirement?

Sorry for all those looking forward to this show. Thankfully throat infections are curable. When I saw the thread title my heart jumped a coupla beats thinking something worse. Too bad they can't do a couple of hours of instrumentals and Keith tunes with Mick Taylor playing the whole show. That would be worth the price of admission and leave those Aussies with a special taste of the Stones. peace

Stones should have brought in a ringer. Like that bloke who sings for AC/DC

Painful. Hopefully, the announcement was in time to save most people from traveling long distances. I remember being at Atlantic City in 06 when the cancellation was announced the day of the show. Yep, painful. Hope he is better in time for Sydney.

Bernard Fowler would have been a perfect ring in for Mick, he knows the songs and can really deliver. Refunds for those who want, and others could still get a great show. Dissapointing yes, but for those who have travelled etc, better than no show at all. Having seen Bernard perform, he is good.

Without Jagger it isn't a stones show. And to pay 500 dollars to see Bernard sing lead all night? NO WAY!

What do you think the chances are that some of them will play somewhere in Melbourne tomorrow. Darryl, Lisa, Bernard, Tim maybe even Ronnie?
Charlie sat in at a jazz concert in Perth in April so it's not that far fetched.
I saw Bobby Keys in Sydney in April and it was great. I'd take any stone/stp.

Cheers,
Wuudy

I agree Wuudy. If I had travelled and had paid for accomodation etc any show with Keith Ronnie Charlie and others would be better than no show at all. Even a smaller show and it would sadly not have Mick singing, but it would be bloody good show anyway. I would get to see the others for the last time.

Get well soon, Mick.

Very sad for all the fans who were looking forward to the show.

Yep, we could hear that Mick wasn't too well in the YT-clips from Melbourne.

Mick Taylor could do an extended version of I Could've Stood You Up live; after all, he did play on the studio version.

Get out an atlas. Look at the distances between Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and then take into account the distance to New Zealand.

Do you think that they didn't bother seeing if it could be done?

I feel sorry for the people involved, but they are things that can happen to humans not robots!
A concert without Jagger is not feasible because of legal reasons, people would still be entitled to a refund of the ticket.
I'm pretty tired of hearing about more and Taylor is no longer part of the Stones for 40 years, it is not hard to figure it out!

everything's turning to gold

Quite easy with the Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool:

Melbourne -> Sydney 700 km, Sydney -> Brisbane 730 km, Brisbane -> Auckland 2300 km (Auckland -> Melbourne 2600 km).

Maybe the effort and the costs of rescheduling again are too high.

Quote from the RS.com News:

“The Rolling Stones are incredibly disappointed to cancel the Hanging Rock gig and to disappoint their fans but were left with no other option.”

I tweeted Frontier touring tonight and asked why can't they reschedule the hanging Rock date after NZ as the production is already within 3 hrs flying time. it's not as though there are concerts scheduled immediately after NZ.

Probably worth adding that Hanging Rock isn't just a standard arena/stadium where you check if a date is booked, and book it with all of the infrastructure.

It's not normally a concert venue, so masses of stuff has to be trucked in just to make it work - ie before any stage/music stuff appears. Toilets, chairs, barricades, generators by the dozen. Assembling that lot, and getting approval from the Shire who only allow 3 concerts per year because of the strain the tens of thousands of people put on the site.

Most of the year it's just a big paddock populated only by a mob of Kangaroos.

Sounds great I follow the Kangaroos in AFL.....ok another arena show in Melb will do. Those poor local businesses would like a reschedule after 2 cancellations they might never trust the Stones again.....!

I dont need to..ive driven melbourne to brisbane and back many times.
Roughly 22 hours ...
So now tell me how they couldnt fit in a show on the Thursday between the brisbane show and NZ?
Maybe I have answered my own question. .they cant be arsed.
