I can live with the guy hustlin' tickets on the street to make a few bucks. Very handy at times.
The secondary ticket sale sites that are given blocks of tickets or buying mass quanties from ticketmaster is wrong, in my opinion.
I used Stubhub for Brooklyn, but I won't use them/others anymore. Maybe if a boycott started, things would change.
With scalpers/touts it is just a waiting game.

I think there are two issues here. One is with the tickets that end up in the hands of the secondary sellers at marked-up prices before the public has a chance to buy them at face value. I think we all agree that's wrong.
But the other has to do with individuals buying/selling surplus or unneeded tickets. For example, I had a weekend VIP pass to a festival that I can no longer attend, and needed to sell the ticket. I didn't know anybody who wanted to buy it, or belong to any forums where I thought anybody would be interested. So I ended up having to sell it through StubHub--could have used eBay or whatever, same principle applies: there needs to be a marketplace for people to buy/sell tickets as individuals. I asked less than face value, I just wanted to be sure the thing sold, and the person who bought it was obviously a fan who needed a ticket (nobody's going to buy just one ticket to try to make a profit), so we were both happy. I wouldn't like this sort of marketplace to be regulated out of existence as a side effect of restricting real scalping.

Yes, but does it even operate in the US? Which is where I live. I've bought tickets through them in the UK, but have never seen any US shows listed.

Ah, so the issue is also different depending on the country involved, then.

I am a Rolling Stones fan and a fan of Capitalism (much like Mick Jagger whom I admire) YOU WANT THE GOVERNMENT CONTROLLING PRICES... That my friend, is the road to SOCIALISM, TOTALITARIANISM, AND OTHER BAD ISMS.... I do not want the government telling me how much I can sell something that I own, that is, a piece of artwork or a ticket to an event. And furthermore, I don't want any government preventing me from buying anything I want at any price that I am willing to pay. Honestly, you live in the land of make-believe. And I am not trying to be mean or disrespectful, but only honest
With respect, you are missing the main point. I too, agree that the economy should be driven by market forces, though they can't be left completely unchecked. They have to be regulated. Drug Dealing is Capitalism!!!.
What PW is stressing is the immediate diversion of tickets from Primary to Secondary Seller without Joe Public getting a sniff of a chance to buy them. That isn't capitalism - it's racketeering, tantamount to fraud, if not fraud full stop. To advertise a product at a given price, dangle it in front of the Customer, create a demand and expectation, then give them ZERO opportunity to buy at that price before it re-appears at a huge mark up elsewhere, with the disappointed customer looking on.
That, Ladies & Gents is SCANDALOUS and not a small bit CRUEL.
Yup, that's about it !!

Paul, I'm in Oslo and will head off to the Telenor for rehearsals later. Tickets are now trading for BELOW face value even on Viagogo so no way is it sold out despite initial claims by the promoter. And this their
1st show in Europe for 7 years!

Berlin show - situation on 26 May
255 pit tickets available, cheapest is €327 - no movement in an entire week. The face value of this ticket is €224.50
Paris show - situation on 26 May
112 pit tickets available, cheapest is €440 - no movement (as in sales) also during the week. The face value of this ticket is €111.50.
FOUR times face value for a 75,000 capacity stadium. F**k off dreamers !

Paris VIP tickets aren't really a pit if you go by the seating charts we've seen. Unlike other venues, it stretches across the full length of the field at the back, so there will be a lot of people in there. I would not pay those prices. If they don't come down, buy a seat in the stands and buy a pit ticket for another show.

I think it's a combination of a couple of factors. I don't think it's the French - the Stones fan base there has never been quite so rabid. As I recall, both 06 and 07 were far from sold out. But, this time, there are far fewer shows in Europe, and with no UK shows, I suspect there will be many fans making the trip across the Channel. Also, this is the only non-Festival Fri/Sat show of the tour, which makes it attractive.

I understand from the rumor mill that it is a conspiracy designed by viagogo and seatwave management with minimal input from getmein to piss you off Paul Right now the CEO's are in a Parisian luxury suite smoking big hand-rolled Havana cigars with tumblers of single malt Scotch Whisky reading IORR expectantly awaiting your next post
LOL I am of course jealous of you doing these shows and me not being there. Also hoping I get into the upcoming downunder tour knowing that these will be the first in nearly a decade without either you or Sara at my elbow. Have fun !!!!

VIP Pelouse = VIP Pelouse debout
Pelouse = field
Debout = standing seat
In SDF, all the seats on the field are standing seats, and "VIP Pelouse debout" is what you call "tongue pit" (in fact, in a stadium, there's no tongue pit but a catwalk).

Wrong. The pitch (pelouse) is divided up into three sections, the VIP bit is the section nearest the stage, then there's the pelouse or behind it, and in turn behind that, the section called pelouse debout.
Call it what you like (pit or not the pit) - but the pelouse VIP section in the context of this particular gig is the enclosed standing area located bang in front of the stage, with the other two sections behind it.
