Swapping one of the warhorses (SMU or HTW?) with Street Fighting Man is indeed an option.

the variety of a set lists is minimized once they start to play less songs. With the Option along the US Tour we had 21-23 songs and therefore more surprises each night.

because of more guests!

sure, these setlists may seem boring when you are reading them song by song on this forum, but they are made for people attending the shows

So true! Live updates on a forum are not the live performance at the venue.

What... Are you serious???

Why not bust out Street Fighting Man after Brown Sugar!

That's also one thing bothering me. They play every familiar tune of theirs, but why not this one? What's the wrong with it? Is it not any longer so 'big´'?eye popping smiley

Besides the version they did in Hyde Park was a strong one, a gig highlight.

Poor Japan -- no Can't You Hear Me Knocking w/ Mick Taylor. For a fan base that gives them sold out shows that's a crime.

I think the question is not the quality of the performance or even the song choices, but : why do they rehearse rare songs since they finaly playd more or less the same "best of" for years ?
I specify that's not a critic, but a fact.

I wonder what is the main reason for shortening the set list?

Is that maybe the work load on Charlie?

Mick seems to be very energetic always and I can't see any big problems with Keith or Ronnie, if Keith has bad day you can see it from the first song and if he has a good day, I can't see any problem with 22 songs.

Why don't they just have an intermission?

Yes, a very good point, I have also wondered why...

Is Jagger never satisfied with the results of those rehearsals or what?

It's really odd.

I dont get it either.
Why go through the trouble of rehearsing for 2 weeks in a freezing cold Paris all these rarities to finally not even using 30% of it?

It's really weird, whats the point when you're rotating 3 songs/19 ?

I'm not complaining (i wont in Singapore) but I just dont the get the point on working on stuff to not even play it.

i know, it's only the 4th show but yeah..excitement is winding down.

I would even be excited if they shuffled the 11-19 segement...

Is 22-23 songs hard on Jaggers voice? Has to be that or Charlie.
Either way it's disappointing when it comes at the expense of song surprises.

They play the same great songs each night on stage. On rehearsals they are just their own garage band and they can just for fun play stuff that they never do live, otherwise rehearsals may get boring to them.
Most of the rare stuff done in Paris will never go outside of the rehearsals.

And about the setlist tonight, absolutely great. Just think about it, like 8-9 of the greatest rocksongs ever made in the history of rock music and performed on the same night by a band who originally made them? Will you ever see another concert / band do that?

They worked so hard in the US last year that I just don't get it either. Maybe a contributing factor is the fact they're playing stadiums with a huge stage.

Hats off to Irix!

Your posts made it worthwhile to scroll thru all the usual bitching. I'm sure it was a terrific finale in Tokyo for those who were there and that's all that really matters.

Congratulations to The Rolling Stones on completing a wonderful Japanese tour.

The Rolling Stones rock the Tokyo Dome for their final Japan 14 ON FIRE show

Thank you to everyone who came to the three shows at the Tokyo Dome, and to all of our fans in Japan for your support.

The next 14 ON FIRE show is in Macau on Sunday 9th March at the Cotai Arena, see you there!

So the song that won the fan vote just happened to be the same one that the special guest performed on? Wow...what a coincidence!

Interesting special guest choice - Hotei's "Battle without honor or humanity" is a huge favourite of mine.

Uninspiring variety and depth of song choices over the three nights though - especially as Tokyo is the only multiple night stop on the tour. Doubt I'd travel far or pay much to see it, personally but I'm sure the shows were enjoyable for most who attended.

Yes Gazza, I'm saddened by the lack of variety here as this is the only multi night stop on the tour. The main problem appears to be the cutting down of the set to 19 songs.........again . Leaves no room for swapping about some interesting non-warhorses.

Don't bode well for Europe as most of that will be 1 night per country !

Its payback for the Japanese as they got three extra songs on "Sweet Summer Sun"

OMG this setlist is sooooo boring. The only rare threat for Tokyo was Silver Train. What happened to them since Staples Center May 2 last year??? Even the 2007 Euro tour had more adventurous setlists!!

Yes, when they shorten the number of songs, the numbers that fall by the wayside are always the slots in the show where they have previously allowed room for some variety or deeper cuts. You're still going to get the same 14-15 songs that get played at EVERY show.

A tour that consists exclusively or almost exclusively of one-nighters (and in this tour that will often mean one show in each country) coupled with the high prices means less people going to multiple shows and therefore less incentive for the band to deviate from the standard playlist, unfortunately.
