OT: Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr reunion
Posted by: tatters ()
Date: January 7, 2014 23:59

[ultimateclassicrock.com]

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr may mark the 50th anniversary of Beatlemania hitting U.S. shores next month by performing together. Showbiz 411 reports that the two surviving Beatles could show up on David Letterman’s late-night show during his network’s week-long celebration of the Fab Four.

According to rumors, Letterman’s staff is working to get the pair to perform on ‘Late Show With David Letterman,’ possibly on Feb. 7. CBS is marking the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first appearance on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ with specials, including an all-star Grammy program featuring appearances by McCartney and Starr.

Because Letterman’s show records at the Ed Sullivan Theater, it makes sense that the two former Beatles may turn up to perform together, especially since the week of Feb. 3 to 7 is being touted as a “Beatles spectacular” on ‘Late Show,’ according to Showbiz 411.

CBS is also airing the Grammy special on Feb. 9 — the exact same day that the Beatles made their debut U.S. TV appearance in 1964, effectively kicking off Beatlemania. Just a couple of weeks before the big anniversary, the group’s original U.S. albums will be collected in a new box set.

On a related note, Ringo is going to be presented with a Lifetime Of Peace And Love award. What does that even mean?

It might be because for the last 45 years, all he ever did was flash a peace sign.

He flashed one at me once. I'll have to tell that story sometime. It's funny.

There will be a 'Beatles 50th Anniversary' concert in L.A. at the end of this month to coincide with the Grammys. Apart from Paul and Ringo, no word on who else will be playing in the band. Fab!

As yet no confirmed rumours about Sons of The Beatles participation in festivities. Perhaps they are saving their powedr for the 50th anniversary of Shea Stadium next year.

It would only be fitting if Paul and Ringo performed with Julian Lennon and Dhani Harrison on guitar. I hope somebody suggests it to them. I mean, they could have ANYBODY sit in with them so why not a couple of chips off the old block???

I saw a different YouTube video of that same Radio City Music Hall performance (above) that was from some shaky smartphone, but what was great was it showed Paul as he came out on stage, and he was kicking his knees up high in the air he was so psyched to be there, and that was great to see.

So a bass player is gonna stand up there with a drummer...and it's momentous?
What Beatles songs have only bass and drum?

I'm trying to figure out when he started this nonsense. It wasn't the '60s. I don't recall him doing it in the '70s or even a few years after Lennon's death.

The Sgt. Pepper title track has only Paul and Ringo playing on it, with Paul handling all of the guitars--if Paul had four more arms, it would work live as well.

No, George is on one of the guitars. The stinging lead part is Paul, though

Well, he's wrong. According Lewishon and the book REcording the Beatles, track one has "two guitars and drums." THis is before bouncing. So if Paul does have 4 hands...
