Johnny Rotten says some nice things about Mick
Posted by: TippyToe ()

Well, mostly nice.

Johnny says that over the years Mick has done some nice stuff in the Pistols direction. Particularly when Sid was in a lot of trouble Mick was secretly behind the scenes offering lawyers.

2:06 of the video.

Johnny Rotten has the personality of a huffy 8 year old girl.

He hasn't been 'Rotten' for a long, long time, has he?

John spoke disdainfully about McCartney...until he met Paul about three years ago, when he said Paul was great and they got on, and he liked that Paul didn't take himself seriously.

John answered an email of mine about Mick on his Rotten Radio show. I transcribed the exchange here once. Search with "Rotten Radio" here and it'll come up.

He's certainly mellowed a bit in the last few years. He was more fun when he was more rotten.

That anti England stuff was just the Sex Pistols schtick. When you don't have talent, you need another angle. I suppose it worked for them.

If it weren't for the Pistols and punk, etc., Some Girls would have sounded like a cross between Goat's Head Soup and Black and Blue.

Johnny called me around 1993 to tell me he wears my shirts. I just saw the Ginger Baker documentary and he's still wearing them! Thanks Johnny.

Ask Neil Young.

so the answer is, as I expected, of nothing

the king, according to neil, at leat in hey hey my my, was elvis

young only 'liked' punk because the records were relativelty unproduced; he hated goofs with pins in their faces

pistols dug neil more than vice versa

elvis was the King, not johnny rotten. neil flips it about johnny rotten to make a point

he says 'the king is gone but he's not forgotten' (elvis)

'is this the story of a johnny rotten' (no, its not about johnny rotten)

johnny rotten was and is not dead (or gone)

You earlier claimed not to remember him:

Hence my initial (facetious) response.

He's a boring old fart. A few sad people care about what he says.

Not true : he's VERY bright! Not so long ago I read an in-depth JR interview which was a real eye-opener to me. For once the journalist came with genuine questions and JR was happy to answer them.
Interms of wit I'd rank him on par with Jagger.

Too often all journos need is JR gobbing on the floor during interview time and saying "@#$%&" 30 times... basically that's all they want.

Rotten is still remarkably funny and more intelligent than many think smiling smiley

Cool! Do you design shirts or do you work in a sweat shop, or do you just send your shrunken worn out tees to Johnny Rotten?

Lydon hated goofs with pins in their faces as well. My feeling is that no matter what they say nowadays, back in 77/78 people like Neil Young spent a lot more time thinking about people like Rotten, rather than the other way around.
Like or dislike his music - Lydon has stayed true to his stance and tried his best to keep his integrity intact. he has also been the first to admit about mistakes he made.

Why are some still referring to him as 'Johnny Rotten'? All publications and interviewers refer to him as 'John Lydon' It's not 1977 any more.

Well, in a press release from PiL on April 3rd, 2013 John Lydon says: “What a great chance for The Rolling Stones and Michael Jagger to see Public Image Ltd and Johnny Rotten at Glastonbury. Hugs and Kisses baby Rockers.”

True, but 'Johnny Rotten' is his old Sex Pistols stage name and he's generally referred to as 'lydon' Perhaps the recent press conference simply called for the 'Rotten' tag. I guess it makes sense.
