The Rolling Stones are being headhunted by the State Government to perform at Adelaide Oval next year as the first live music event hosted at the new $500 million stadium.

If signed, the concert would be one of the largest yet held in Adelaide with up to 70,000 set to pack the new venue and would be the first time the Stones have played Adelaide in nearly 20 years.

this would be a nice vacation next year if this comes to life .

It sounds like something right up the Stones alley. They love to play new venues.

Why would the State Government care about the opening of a new concert venue/sports stadium?

Is there a political party election (or re-election) involved?

It sounds too politically motivated to involve The Stones.

They should ask U2 instead, since politics is right up Bono's alley.

There are a lot of people who want them to play all sorts of venues all over the world--that doesn't constitute "news." I mean, I hope for Australian fans this happens, but there's no more reason that it should happen than all the other gigs that are supposedly the subject of "talks."

After the *beautiful* Bigger Bang stage, we can have high expectations.

to be serious, i don´t want a stadium tour, was looking forward for indoor stuff, if they do a stadioum tour, i have to rethink if i´m going though it´s the stones. they started this 50 thing quite good with the indoor shows and will screw it up for stadiums, hm...

Rolling Stones could play Adelaide Oval

THE SA government reportedly wants the Rolling Stones to perform the first music concert at the renovated Adelaide Oval in 2014.
Concert promoters are in talks to bring the band back to Australia for a string of stadium shows, including the first live music concert at the Oval, according to Thursday's Advertiser newspaper.
The paper quoted industry sources as saying the government would have to pay a premium of at least several million dollars, on top of the retail ticket prices, to attract the band to the Oval.
It said premier Jay Weatherill did not dismiss the prospect, but said there was a lot of speculation about the Oval's opening and at this stage "it is just speculation".

When you have a place in front row, it doesn't matter if it's a indoor or a stadium tour, apart from the weather .....

I think this thread needs to be retitled Rumoured Rolling Stones shows 2014-2015 as our window of opportunity for further shows in 2013 is rapidly shrinking.

I can't see Foo fans paying Stones coin.

And personally, I'm a bit over Dave Grohl. I know he's talented, but I'm just a bit Foo-ed out.

Not together. Foo Fighters were mentioned in The Advertiser article as another act promoter Michael Gudinski was considering.

"The Foo Fighters are also rumoured to be in the mix for a 2014 Australian tour as Frontier Touring looks to expand on an already solid lineup for the coming year."
