Is there really any lead guitar player who would have played extremely well when over 60 years old? Carlos Santana maybe?

John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, Lee Ritenour, Andrew Latimer and countless others.

Just a weak attempt of what once was a great guitarist.

I still like the guy, and glad he played again with the stones, but he just don`t have it anymore!

Ooh and i`m not trying to bash him or whatever, just my opinion.

1. You have to agree his solos and his concentration to his soloing are better than Ronnie and Keef, right?
2. The Stones have more energy when he is on stage, right?

I think some the critique between MT now and 1973 is attributable to MT only playing on 2-3 songs. I wonder what his interpretation of Brown Sugar, Gimme Shelter, Sympathy for the Devil would be???!!??

Has he had a real solo on Satisfaction? I am not sure he has.

To MT's credit every version of MR and CYHMK is unique. He is on the edge with these songs while still trying to playing well in the sandbox with the others. Why the Stones won't agree to a 3 guitar attack is obvious - they are afraid he would unleash his talents on their rock songs and me them all look bad in terms of soloing.... end of story.

Again:

The Rolling Stones are NOT "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band Ever"

But:

The Rolling Stones with Mick Taylor is "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band Ever."

I mean if Ron Wood would stop throwing Picks at the Audience (and all the other ass-clown stuff he does), Keef looking at his nails / staring at the ground and Jagger drop the guitar he uses for like half a song only so some Roadie can gofer it.... and just put Taylor up there...is that really too much to ask? LOL

During the first part of Knocking Taylor plays some quite tasty licks to my ears. Maybe even more interesting than his soloing, interesting and daring as it is.

Agreed Klee!

He plays some "fills" between the verses but he is very much low in the mix. But if you listen for them they are gems.

It is clear he is being restrained. He is not like 1972 / 1973 when he would simply solo the whole song. He must have heard from some insecure members of the Band - "you solo too much" - LOL.

We have only see the tip of the iceberg of what MT could deliver to this Tour.

+1

I think guitarists really appreciate MT, for the wonderful lyrical sense he brought to the table. However, we won't see the full potential of what he could bring in 2013, so banking on that wish at the expense of just enjoying the band would be futile.

I've said it before: to resurrect anything close to the Golden Age, put Ron Wood on bass for most of the songs, and MT or someone else on bass for post '75.

Glancing at Chicago setlist, for roughly 20 songs, MT would be the guitarist for 80% of the music.

This makes so much sense to me.

One man's soloing is another man's noodling.
But seriously I would love to see and hear as much Mick Taylor as possible on this tour. This includes lots of non intrusive fills that would only add to Keith and Ronnie. Looks like this will not be happening despite Keith's talk about an upcoming three guitar attack in at least 2 and likely 3 pre-tour interviews. Keith talked about adding Mick Taylor on the Jimmy Fallon show

You're right, it's all subjective...I revised my post.

Asking for him to feature more on this tour is fair enough, even to a non taylor fan the current set up seems daft, all this other stuff is a bunch of wank.

Who gives a @#$%& what music critics say or if a thread reaches 47 pages? If consensus is a bench mark for what is best then 8+ million sales of Some Girls ought to be taken in to account too.

Some so called Taylorites are really great at putting people off Mick Taylor. I liked, but lost interest in his style of playing years ago, before he joined the stones were great anyway, but then I came here and read some of the Belieber like posts about him, gadz.

I liked him a lot, and learned a lot from him as well - and I really respect his abilities.

However, you´ll get to a point where you grow up and grow tired of too much soloing in a song. I guess the Taylorites aren´t there yet...

Just to add: I have probably listened (and learned from) more Taylor-solos than most people. Maybe that´s my problem, I dunno...

In terms of the Stones, its amazing and legendary. In the grand scheme of comebacks people make, it means absolutely nothing. I think the people it means most to are the hardcore Stones fans and Taylor himself, which is enough for me. But let's not overstep our boundaries.
