I have a boot somewhere of the Hyde Park concert. It was a CD and it was colored gold. I have no idea what the source could have been, but during Rambler you hear someone (a radio commentator? Who knows!) noting that that particular version fixed the canon for all future versions of that song.

I'll hate him forever for interrupting a great version of rambler, but somehow he was right!

I agree, Doxa, but keep in mind that MR is looser than the other songs, and leaves a lot of space for jamming.

That said, I think some of the looseness of the IORR live versions, compared to the original studio version, is still there today.

Then again, Woody wrote it grinning smiley

I think Bitch and Street Fighting Man today differ a lot to both the studio versions and live during the Taylor era as well.

Yeah, I guess I agree with the all points here. I forgot about "It's Only Rock'n'Roll" - the 'Chuck Berry' version we have heard for years now is really a 'road version' if any, and having resemblances to its readings in 1975/76. They tried to copypaste the original "Street Fighting Man" in 1989-95, but seemingly gave up, and I think we've been ever since in more that seventies live hard rocking direction, but probably ending to sound rather unique. I don't know what to think of "Bitch". They tend to use the resources of their 'big band' in doing the reconstruction of the original (by the expanse of the guitars), in which it doesn't much differ from other 'modern' reconstructions. The bit of the version last night I've heard sounded a bit different, though.

But altogether I think that as far as actual Taylor era songs go (starting from STICKY FINGERS on), their live versions do not differ very much from their studio counterparts, since the songs were more ready arranged to be played live and they already had experience of playing live, and how they sound there - than pre-Taylor 68/69 stuff. I think "Bitch" belongs to that category. Of course, some technical adjustments needed to be done, and the songs would later develop by their own, but that was not so radical than it was with BEGGARS and BLEED material.

I am resurrecting an old thread that I found in the important threads section of IORR. I am still relatively new and find my way around.

If Sticky Fingers will be played in it's entirety this probable last time tour, it would be really wonderful to have Mick Taylor's fingers back playing on just some songs he originally recorded on Sticky Fingers. But then again so would Bill Wyman. Bobby will be sorely missed as his magic fingers were on the saxophone. I guess I live in the past and remember that album very well. I could not believe that it actually had a working zipper with a photo of Joe D'Allensdo's bulge who did some gay porn back then. It was amazing and very edgy for the very early 1970's.

I'm in favor of Mt joining on tour again. I loved the 3 guitar Stones performances. No or rw or mt, just BOTH! I'll take any song, but wish for the whole show.

Hah!

Supposedly he hasn't been invited back. That just makes my budgeting for this year easier, as I know I won't have to shell out any more money to hear more Taylor-less Stones. Glad I got to see them with Taylor at least once in my life, even though he was not permitted to play on any of the songs where he was on the original recording. We must never question the reasoning of the Great And Mighty Jagger (or does Chuck call the shots now, I'm not sure?)

It is hard to understand why he could not be back to play on a few songs from "Sticky Fingers". Then again it is not my band. I am only a fan. But I am a fan that has seen and heard Mick Taylor in Philadelphia in 1969 and 1972 when he was a Rolling Stone. The band and music were absolutely magnificent. Those of us that are old enough to have had that experience know what I am talking about. (before internet) I realize people do get old (myself included) so the magic of 1972 is gone, only a memory now. But it would be so cool to try and ignite that musical magic of Taylor adding his talent to the Stones once more. I take nothing from Ronnie Wood. I saw him in PHilly at the Spectrum when he was a Face. Excellent show!

If Taylor returned I believe the music would only get better and somewhat fresher. But as i said I am just a fan and have to take it or leave it. HI do hope they invite him back.

I had an eleventh-hour chance to get tickets for Hyde Park back in 2013, didn't do it; I've no interest in seeing the Stones without Taylor and didn't feel that £60 was a fair price for seeing him play Midnight Rambler. If he'd been better integrated into the set I probably would have done it, but they preferred to use him as a circus elephant. Their loss, and ours too.

It's a bit more than "supposedly not invited back", MT has stated it himself on his FB page :

It's very sad indeed, I'll never forget the thrill of seeing him coming out of the blue (literally) at the beginning of MR at the 02/1 a few feet away in front of me or the sheer joy/emotion of discovering the setlist of LA/3 on setlist.fm on a Monday morning.

In spite of his limited role, he did tell Sam Cutler that he was happy to be "back with the Stones"...who knows, maybe that's what got him in trouble, like "I'm the musical director" got Chuck in trouble after the VL tour...but at the end of the day things weren't really working out.

So true...the production of Steel Wheels in particular makes in virtually unlistenable despite some good songs...could have been so much better...

They should do a 'B' stage mini- set of Sticky Fingers songs with MT as guest...that would be amazing. But alas, that would probably overshadow the main event...
