Jagger and company may be greedy, but they are not idiots. They have to be concerned about the lack of sales. Money they have - playing to empty seats - not good for super sized egos. I'm hoping they can pull it off and the buildings are full - a sold out crowd makes for a better show.

A luxus commodity, like The Rolling Stones, is also very dependent on corporations to buy a major bulk of the tickets. Because rich and famous people aren't used to actually paying for tickets themselves.
If corporations hesitate to buy large amounts of tickets they (the Rolling Stones) will have a problem.

Well, that didn't take long. Can't get to the $85s anymore.

I'm a brat to say this, but if the tickets had been $50 I probably wouldn't have gotten mine that are so close to the stage (too much competition). Or I would have had to pay $800 to a scalper. (There is no way comparable seats as close as mine are among the unsold $600 tickets.) The ball bounced in such a way that I got fantastic seats. "The hand of fate" and all....

Top dollar for the best seats isn't really the issue, it's top dollar for all 100 level and floor seats regardless of where they are, not to mention $400+ for the upper deck that's the joke.

I still don't see how they're planning to fill the arena tomorrow night, are they hoping people will show up thinking that the previously overpriced tickets will be sold for next to nothing? Can they even do that officially at the box office?

The prices are, indeed, ludicrous. But the real problem is that most Rolling Stones fans are so @#$%& old they just don't give a shit about going to see them any more, or any other act for that matter. Plus they just don't have the energy it takes to go through all the bullshit. AND if they've already seen them several times you can multiply that factor by about a hundred.

Exactly! It's exhausting just firing up the computer to read about them!

In complete honesty... not joking... AES needs to come out an apologize for the pricing. Just straightup say 'we got greedy' and then change the pricing model is a big meaningful way. Ultimately Jagger + Co are responsible for the prices as they signed off on them, BUT, they can save face by saying 'see, they fixed it'.

Tomorrow we will find out if the $85 are really 'throughout the arena' or just 'around the upper deck'. We will find out if they play an adventurous set or if its the same old stuff as the limited 2012 run. If there are big empty sections in the arena, it will be reported.

It stands to reason that the initial $85.00 tickets were a result of the Stones insisting on lower ticket prices during tour negotiations. The promoters probably had no intention of setting any ticket prices that low, but they compromised. So at least thank the Stones for that. The promoters blew it! It's their job to know the market. They smugly set the ticket prices with the 2012 shows in mind thinking it was a lock. They simply miscalculated. Of course we would all feel better if we were to get some kind of announcement that the inflated ticket prices were actually the result of an agreement between the Stones and the promoters to block the scalpers with the end result being additional low priced tickets going to the fans.

Really JumpinJackOLatern? The $85 ticket 'promo' was and is a fumbled PR stunt/bait and switch. The press has so far reported that press release almost verbatim 'Stones tickets are as high as $2,000, but look! you can go for only $85!' I'm certain that the negotiations with Dainty/Virgin collapsed when that promoter did their math and KNEW that the numbers wouldn't work in today's economy. MJ & Co. DO ask for a absolutly guaranteed sum, and that's it. Michael Cohl woo'ed them in '89 by doing so, and they've done it ever since. The only reason for the outrageous ticket prices this time is that MJ & Co. (and it is Mick, he still plays naive over what people have to pay to see them,) is the band have demanded an absolute of $XX millions for XX number of shows. They, not any promoter, have set the requirement for stepping on the stage. What DOES amaze me is that my beloved heroes knew what tickets would HAVE TO sell for to get this paycheck, and thought we could pay it! That said, I'm gonna be way up in section 216 here in LV on May 11, $250.00 +service charge and handling fees...

It's not a reach to envision the promoters offering the Stones the moon if they were confident they could still make a bundle. Which appears to be the case judging by the inflated ticket prices. It's hard for me to imagine the promoters putting that kind of pressure on themselves by offering the Stones so much that they would have to scramble to make a decent profit. Either they miscalculated or they (and the Stones) have something up their sleeves. For the Stones sake, I hope that turns out to be the case. The next 24 hours should be interesting.

Roughly 24 hours now until showtime. Maybe Mick makes a "Stones State of the Union Address" when they first come on stage? How he outfoxed the scalpers will be the first topic! spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

It's kinda sad to keep seeing these promos, "Hi, I'm Mick Jagger/Keith Richards, and I'm delirious with excitement about playing your town" . . . with the subtext of "so please buy more damn tickets."

For andrewt: Exactly, it is good that the really good seats are expensive because for hard core fans they are easier to purchase, but if mediocre seats are 450$ or even 600$, that's really poor judgement in pricing.

True that! I checked the Staples site and I was shocked by how many sections were in the 600$ range not just the 3 blocks in front of the tongue...

It is now 7AM PT on showday. A quick glance of the official ticket sales site, popular broker sites such as ticketsnow, stubhub, etc shows thousands of seats unsold and available for purchase. Michael Cohl would have at least got bodies in most of these seats, not at full price -- but he would have papered the house and got comps out to corporations, etc. AEG owns this venue, they get almost 100% of parking and concessions. Someone at AEG needs to make a decision now to fill some of these massive gaps in the arena or it's going to be bad.

Would they drop tickets directly on to Stubhub at a lower price, to make it look like they're not cutting prices?

But remember, the secondary sites like ticketsnow and stubhub are reselling tickets that have ALREADY BEEN SOLD. That money is in the AEG bank...

Just pulled up Floor 6 Row 1. Tossed them back when I remembered I live in Detroit. (And, also, it's 3x more than I've ever paid for a ticket to anything in my entire life.)

This is generally accurate, but in the U.S. there are many people who believe there is a lot of collusion between ticket sellers, sports teams/venues and the re-sellers. It's a filthy business that has developed over the last 20 odd years, Pearl Jam had it right all those years ago (I'm not really a fan of their music either).

Many believe the Boston Red Sox's consecutive sell out streak was tied to their relationship to ACE Tickets (they would gobble up existing inventory - why would they do that?). At the same time, you could generally get tickets for SRO or grandstand for the less followed visiting teams. Some relationship existed there beyond advertising at Fenway.

Hopefully it gets straightened out one day.

Is AEG willing to consider ticker-taping the remaining tickets from a helicopter?
Say around downtown LA? They'd need to stay away from the fires to the North...

Pit tickets for opening show now $1100 on StubHub. Apart from a few exceptions, most of the other seats seem to still be over face value.
