I don't know, maybe as someone withj a degree in two languages that I still can't speak correctly, the tning really sticking in my craw about the release is hitching the word "exalted" to ABB. OK, I liked it , thought it was a good CD, better thna I expected, haven't listened to it in about two years and probably should again.

But EXALTED??? That is EXAGERRATED.

showbiz411: "The Rolling Stones will release two new songs with a 48 song
collection this fall. One of the songs is called “Gloom and Doom,” which may
describe how the deal is going for the four show, $25 million project they were
supposed to announce today. My source says the deal is not done, nothing’s been
signed.
"

Hope this is true. Hope it dies on the vine. Worst idea ever.

wow rev...they seem to be misfiring all over the place. I can't fathom how that cover art went beyond the 'white board' stage of development.

could this cover be construed as racist? i know (i hope) its not intentional, but it brings to mind offensive caricatures of African-Americans from the early 1900's.

It could have been worse. It could have been a gorilla with three balls in his mouth.

Some things are probably not IORR worthy, and I put the genie back in the bottle... I am just trying to be good, and not offend anyone... there have been about 10-20 posts today which I did not make... so as not to offend anyone.

edit...

Yes GRRR!! is definitely more a dog sound... monkeys go "ooga ooga"

Assuming they did that, and it had no racist intentions, THAT would have had a sense of irony and I actually might have enjoyed it briefly.

My working hypothesis, treac, is as always based on the assumption that jagger
never misfires, he simply decides for his own reasons to offend this or that
party or group. To me its obvious that one of his most frequent targets over the
last few years has been hard-core long-term fans, so we can hardly be surprised
at this point if he keeps rubbing it in. But to what end? THAT is the question.

Is it to set up a hits-oriented festival-type mostly-for-the-kids glorious
farewell? Or is it merely to pressure Keith into retirement asap by driving away
his audience?

One thing I still feel sure about: It is NOT because Jagger wants to do another
Vegas era big bucks tour. Even if he doesnt want to kill off the Stones
entirely, he absolutely wants to kill off that version of them. This London/
Brooklyn rumor proves that to me.

As for the art, personally i don't find the grrrilla as banal as the 40 Licks
tongue, and I doubt it will hurt with the target audience of christmas
consumers, that is, vaguely interested young rockers who have come of age since
Licks and who will consume the doco on HBO along with six beers and a bag of
Cheese Doodles.

For a very, very long time I was harshly critical of Revvy. Sometimes I was entertained by him, but I never took him seriously. In the last couple weeks, his posts on the Stones and even other areas outside the band have convinced me I was wrong. Revvy, while you are a natural-born entertainer and irrepressible when the spirit takes you, it is also true that you do know precisely what you are talking about. Mea culpa for being a dick to you so many times in the past.

Give up on the festivals! You are the ONLY person who even thinks they will play festivals. It won't happen! ALTAMONT was a festival. How did that work out for everyone?

In fairness to the Stones, they did play the free show in Rio. Of course, 1,000,000+ people showed up for that. Maybe central park?

Won't happen. Why? because they can't control it the way they (Mick) need to.

A picture of an ape is not racist. It is a picture of an ape. Not every African is an ape, nor is every ape an African.

I wonder though -all this pumping up for a 'great statement' by the Stones which ended up into something horrible, while they would of course normally use this momentum created to announce gigs which would make lots of money.

Could it then indeed be true that the Stones are finished as a working band, and most importantly, as we've all could see from Richards last couple of live appearances: is Richards really finished as a working guitarist?

It smells like it.

Would be a little weird to book four gigs just to confirm the supposedly permanent decline", wouldn't it?

Unfortunately, I think so too. Mick. Charlie, Ronnie are in much better condition than Keith. Besides of that is Keith's arthritis perhaps the biggest problem.

'For sure' ? eye rolling smiley

No it isn't. Unless you're taking seriously the Daily Mail angle which managed to distort an innocuous comment about having trouble remembering old Stones songs he hasnt played for years into some sort of 'admission' that he has dementia.
