Then I have booked my flight from Oslo, I'll be
arriving Tuesday at Gatwick 7.30 PM, hope to be at
Waterstones before it closes at 10.00 to buy my copy of LIFE.
And then I'll just wait all night long!
As some of you have mentioned, it will be a be huge disappointment
not to meet Keith or get a signed copy, but then, at least I can feel
like this guy:

Man, you're coming from Oslo. You deserve to be front of the queue. Hope to see you there mate.

andy js Re Trains-

I've checked the timetables and prices, and the people that plan these things must be on the same stuff Keith was in the 70's.

Cheapest fare-£11.00,- GREAT, Arrives in London TUESDAY night (means queuing overnight tho!)

SAME journey, 5AM ish next morning-£80 + quid.

Return is similar- to get the £11 fare I'd have to hang around til THURSDAY morning, or pay £100 PLUS.

The £11 journey takes 2 hours-the £100+ journey takes nearly EIGHT!!!!

...then the politicians tell us NOT to use our carssad smiley

At £1.20 a litre it won't be long before we can't afford too!smiling smiley

Hope Keef appreciates all this hassle (and expense!) for a 2 second "sign my book?-Thanks Keith!!!" pilgrimage!!!smiling smiley

Well, I shall be in London as I have a wedding to attend the weekend before and have decided to stay on. May queue all night but will certainly be there early am in the morning. It's going to be similar to queuing for front rail positions at Stones concerts I think - except hopefully not a competition in the end as to how fast you can run never mind what time you got there. Hope we shall all be civilised and save places for each other for loo and coffee runs.
Looking forward to meeting old friends.

have no fears on that front.
Waterstones Piccadilly are well versed with organising these events.

They are always marshalled (over zealously, in my opinion) and there won't be any queue jumping or argy-bargy tolerated.

Just booked a £15 flight up from Newquay to Gatwick for the 2nd (waiting for the confirmation from Flybe.....please don't screw me now !), I'll be there outside Waterstones on the 3rd around 6.30 - 7 a.m. I must be mad !!!
Thing is, this might be one of the last chances to actually meet the man, hey ?
Look forward to seeing you all again, especially so soon after Ronnie's gig.

What do you think: How many people have a chance to get a signed copy from Keith himself? I mean there are 450 people in line, lets say 1 minute of half a minute per booksigning, so Keith have to be signing books a minimum of 3 1/2 hours to satisfy 450 people?

I think only 100 or 200 people have a big chance to meet the legend and the other 250 people get a pre signed copy??

Another question: I'm from Europe and we are thinking to fly over on Tuesday night and spend the evening/night in front of Waterstone's. Will there be many people in front of the store or will most of the people will show up Wednesday morning??

I think some people will do the overnight thing, because if they're travelling in from overseas they're bound to arrive in London the day before. As for us that live either in London itself or in the wider UK, I suspect that the majority will take their chances with arriving at Waterstones very early on the day itself. Myself for example, I might aim for 05:00 or 06:00, something like that ... but I'm certainly not going to be standing there since bloody midnight or something like that. I think you just have to decide for yourself how much its worth to you to put in the necessary hours to maximise your chances of getting to meet the man. It's difficult to estimate numbers, but if I had to guess, I'd assume the worse and imagine that the numbers will be on the higher side, rather than the lower. So if you've got doubts, then wrap up well and be prepared to put in the hours ........

I reckon at the max there will be 50 people queuing all night and then probably 200 by 7-8am. Like pauly I aim to get there as soon as the tube starts running. We should definitely organise some pix as there'll probably be 100 IORRs in the queue. Team photo and all that.

Please have a look to what is written further in the add (from the website) :

"Those amongst the 450 with wristbands who are not lucky enough to meet Keith Richards on the day and have their book signed, will be guaranteed the opportunity to buy a rare pre-signed edition."

"... the opportunity to buy... ", what a shame !! In fact, 30 persons will have the chance to have their book signed (if the event is not cancelled) and the others could buy a "rare" edition !! Very funny indeed !!

Nothing new... they are only here for the money (what is understandable).

Is there a particular reason for your extreme pessimism this fine autumn day, or we always so kindly disposed towards the world and everyone in it ? For f**ks sake !

You say, "In fact, 30 persons will have the chance to have their book signed".
Where do you get this figure from?

Something else worth noting comes in the very small print in the newspaper ad for the book. It says: "Special offer pricing will not apply in this store on the day of signing".

Someone in the U.S. is trying to sell a signed copy from New York Library event for £562 on e-bay ! I hope that no-one in their right mind is going to pay that.

Still hoping to get there but my so-called cheap flight has turned out not to exist and the train fares aren't cheap now either. Got my daughter (lives in Lambeth) primed to step in and get dear old Dad a great Christmas present !!

Cheers,

Chris

There is nothing to stop you purchasing the book for half price (£10.00) in advance of the 3rd November (from Waterstones of course and not forgetting to keep the receipt) and take that along to be signed on the day.

This has the added benefit of people in the queue being able to read the book out aloud to entertain their fellow devotees and help while away the several hours of waiting!!
