Absolutely Behroez, also because team captain Van Bronckhorst (and maybe some others, like Heitinga) has a Moluccan background. Especially the Christian Moluccan still feel a strong link with Holland and want (more) independency from Indonesia. I didn't know there were people who've lost their lives because of riots after the lost final.
Friends of us are who are Dutch (the wife) and Indonesian (the husband from Sumatra) went to visit family last month in Ambon who work for the police and were stationed on Ambon. They told me they were surprised about the Dutch flags they saw hanging everywhere on ambon in support of the Dutch, yet the same time they were disappointed that Ambon was so Indonesian (Javanese), the city of ambon looks like any other Indonesian city and they saw more Javanese and Buginese and people from Sumatra living there than Mollucans, and not just in the city but also in the villages. This being the case the dream of an independent Mollucans is not very realistic anymore. It is the same in West-Papua were allready more than 50% of the people are "transmigrants" from other islands (mainly Java). It is bitter because it was the Dutch that promised the Mollucans independence but they didn't keep their word. They did try to keep their word for the Papuas and even went to war against Indonesia over it, but they were forced by Kennedy to hand it over to Indonesia in the 1960's. But still, that these feelings of hope from Holland after so many decades still run so deep did surprise my friends and us as well.
