I've just solved it for my machine - go into Tools on your browser and "Clear Private Data" - and lo and behold...

(I have Windows Vista + Firefox)

The reason why you get this new layout by default is the fact that that is the future, how the forum core is from now on. I will explore it, and I hope you will do as well. Thousands of others do use the new forum layout so I guess there's a reason. Meanwhile, if you hate it, just go to MY CONTROL CENTER and change your FORUM SETTINGS to the IORR CLASSIC. Simple as that.

Sorry, but it's not that simple. I've set it to IORR classic several times and also logged in and out, but I can't get back anything that looks like how it was before this new default setting - which, for one thing, is too narrow across the page and means more scrolling up and down, which has always been one reason for not going to Shidoobee and Rocks Off. Also there are no pages 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. at the top, so again you have to scroll down to the bottom if you're on the first page of a thread, say, and want to skip to another page. A line space between the last line of a post and "quote this message, edit this message" etc. wouldn't be a bad idea. But what was wrong with the old one? It was user-friendly and easy on the eye. If it ain't broke, then why fix it.....

Also, any PC solutions offered don't necessarily apply to Mac users.

Yikes. It's essentially impossible to make sense of who is saying what. Maybe Bjornulf wants less people here!

Same here, Beast.
I'm on Pc Win XP, changed the template back to classic, logged off, cleared cache and cookies, even rebooted the Pc - logged in.....and it's a mess!
the font is some classic bookstyle thingy, the text is centered, the quotes don't appear boxed. it's hard to follow whats written.

the new template works better in firefox then IE.

I changed to classic and it's a mess. sad smiley

The default forum setting has screwed up every photo thread(so many great photos chopped up), and the classic setting has text layout appearing like a menu at a restaurant. No lines between posts etc etc.

This BV's place and it's up to him what he does with it, but this is a change for the worse imo.

First: that disgusting mess is not what you are supposed to get if you choose "classic". It should be possible to select "classic" and get the board looking like it did yesterday - but you have to give yourself a clean start to get the selection to take effect. If you're lucky all you have to do is log out and in again. Or you might need to clear cache/cookies/private data or reboot your machine - and it looks like the solution is going to be different depending on what operating system/browser combination you've got.

Good luck! (I think I've been relatively lucky!)

Erase the log right after selecting the classic template. then log out and back in again. Should work in Explorer.

this site always looked quite dated and very 90ies...

Well you can always give people the option of using different looks.

bv,
Please restore to the way it was, if at all possible.

Changed to classic in the control panel, looks not at all as before.
The clear layout of IORR was such a plus. (Am on a Mac.)

The option for different templates have been there since February 08.
but now the default look (when you're not logged on) has changed.
small difference, but enough to make ones day.
