CHRISTMAS ALBUM UPDATE

A report has drifted across here suggesting that the working title for the new album is "Christmas in the Heart" and that the currently planned U.S. release date is 13 October. This date coincides with Dylan's Fall tour - to be precise with the first of three shows at the Hollywood Palladium - but whether we will get to hear Dylan singing any of these Christmas songs in concert is another matter entirely.

We assume that the album is scheduled for 12 October release in the U.K. and much of Europe but 9 October in Germany and Italy.

To me, Dylan's NET is a compilation of little tours (legs if you prefer) all over the world. Next gig will happen in 2 months... Lot of time.

Must be almost 100 'legs' since it started in 1988. They should call it the Centipede Tour.

Dylan himself said that the NET ended when G.E. Smith left. And most of the tours have also names. there is no NET....

Charlie Sexton To Rejoin Dylan?

According to Diane Scott of the Continental Club, Charlie Sexton has rejoined Dylan’s band, replacing Denny Freeman for Dylan's October tour. The Continental Club is a renowned live music venue in Austin, Texas and Diane Scott works as PR for the club. The club’s newsletter, August 21, 2009, appears to confirm a story that was picked up by ISIS a week ago. It seems that the news has been confirmed by Denny Freeman who apparently told Scott: “Well, at least it’s Charlie”. If the report is true, then it seems that this change in the tour band came about after Sexton joined Dylan for ten songs during the concert at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas. The current line-up is the longest running since the so called Never Ending Tour began in 1988. ISIS has been unable to confirm this story.

News of Sexton rejoining Dylan at this juncture seems strange. In March 2009, Charlie Sexton’s band the Arc Angels announced that they were reforming and that they were excited about making a new album, a DVD and a tour. Arc Angels’ band member Doyle Bramhall even left Eric Clapton to reform the band. The Arc Angels have extensive plans to tour in late 2009 and have already opened shows for Eric Clapton in Great Britain & Ireland.

Christmas Album Official Announcement

On August 25, 2009 Columbia Records officially announced the release of Bob Dylan’s Christmas album. The working title for the album, the news of which was first made known on the ISIS website on August 20, has been confirmed as “Christmas In The Heart”. Columbia has also confirmed that our predicted U.S. release date of October 13, 2009 is correct. Columbia also confirm two of the songs already mentioned by ISIS, ‘Here Comes Santa Claus’ and ‘Must Be Santa’, but also mentions ‘Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Little Drummer Boy’ as being on the album. Columbia has stated that all of the artist’s U.S. royalties from sales of the album will be donated to the charity “Feeding America”. The press release states: “Bob Dylan is also donating all of his future U.S. royalties from this album to Feeding America in perpetuity”.

The statement goes on to say: “Additionally, the artist is partnering with two international charities to provide meals during the holidays for millions in need in the United Kingdom and the developing world, and will be donating all of his future international royalties from “Christmas In The Heart” to those organizations in perpetuity. Details regarding the international partnerships will be announced next week”.

Feeding America is the United States leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Their network members supply food to more than 25 million Americans each year, including 9 million children and 3 million senior citizens. Their network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states plus the Districts of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Bob Dylan commented: “It’s a tragedy that more than 35 million people in this country alone – 12 million of those children – often go to bed hungry and wake up each morning unsure of where their next meal is coming from. I join the good people of Feeding America in the hope that our efforts can bring some food security to people in need during this holiday season”.

Finally a christmas album I might enjoy listening to...

Honestly, I think making these kind of season albums is one of cheapest tricks artist can do, but I think Dylan - once again - shows the opposite and does it with a dignity. We might hear some not so conventional but very much Dylanisque versions of the 'classics'...

But with almost anyone else the result would be drastic... Just think of Mick and Keith singing "White Christmas"... >grinning smiley< COSMIC CHRISTMAS indeed...

Great bootleg! This must have been the strangest "Tangled up in blue" I've ever heard :-)
First I thought it was a very bizarre way of arranging the song (being used to the very similar versions of the last 8 years or so) but it has grown on me a lot. My favourite performance here is "Til I Fell In Love With You".

Now here's something that may interest some of you (if you don't know already):

At wolfgangsvault 2 previously uncirculated soundboard concerts have emerged.

One is the Rolling Thunder show from the 8th of december 1975 (previously released as audience recordings, e.g. "Night of the Hurricane").
The other is the late (!) show at the LA-Forum on the 14th of february 1974, which has not circulated before, as I understand.

Both shows are of superb quality and you can either listen to them at wolfgangsvault or download the stream at hungercity. Enjoy!
