WOW, this is, by far, the best thread on IORR in a very long time! ( it may be the BEST EVER!). Thanks a lot, Chris! And MANOFWEALTH too! Just an aside..I visited the site of the Marque Club in London a few years back, the one at 100 Wardour St, and a nice man let me in to take photos and poke around. I recall the smell of urine, now that we're speaking of piss, and in the rest room I saw someone had written on the wall CLAPTON IS GOD...so I pulled out my marker and wrote next to it THE ROLLING STONES ARE #1....the child in me had to do it!! The ceilings there are so low that I could touch it and I'm only 5'6. I stood by a post and pictured the stage which was a simple raised platform, no more than 6" above the floor. The bands were just about level with the crowd! Man, I wish I'd seen them back in the 60's in a similar club.
The next time I go to London, I would love to chat with you about " must see" Stones/rock sites.

So cool to look through this thread again - it was fun and a challenge to hunt down some of the locations. There was one which annoys me to this day which I never found. The 'then' picture was the band outside a church, supposedly on Cheyne Walk in London. I checked out all the churches in Cheyne Walk and indeed most of Chelsea, even showing the photo to ageing vicars and priests I bumped into. To no avail as no-one seemd to be able to identify the church in question (not sure the members of the clergy could identify the Stones either!).

Can you post the 'then' shot?

I'm sorry for the delay, but everything seems to be ready......

Also, had to wait for low tide on the Thames to take this one!

Seems this bench was to the right of where they sat on the wall.

Also by Philip Townsend on the same day on Cheyne Walk and Riley Street. Maybe the church photo in on one of the side roads!

Here is the above location today:

BTW -did you ever find the location of that church that you were looking for (see picture a few posts back)?

@2000LYFH - no, we were talking about that today, whilst many buildings have changed/been redeveloped since the 1960's it is unlikely the church has been demolished........may come across it one day.
