OT: Otis Redding

I was just curious if there are many Otis Redding fans on IORR. I found my way to the Redding catalog via the Stones and really have a great admiration for his music.

There are Japanese remasters coming of his entire catalog later this month and I'm wondering if they will be worth picking up and upgrading the regular CD's that are available in the U.S.

I'd like to see The Stones cover this one:

Otis is my fave singer ever. The stones covers of his songs pale dramatically compared to the master....

Otis is about as amazing as performing and arranging ever got. Everyone else was emulating him and Elvis. I was really excited about the possibility of a 60s sitcom called Otis & Elvis, but alas...it never came to be

Otis stole the title of King from Elvis...doubt that Elvis would ever work with him on that basis alone...

I own the Otis Redding 100 Hits Legends collection. That many tracks spanning 5 CD's. Aside from his live releases, the compilation pretty much covers everything he laid-down in the studio. Terrific value, too. Buy it.

Well if he stole it he was apparently forced to hand it back to its rightful owner...Big E still drags that thing around.

In all of the greatness Otis was he would never have been able to sing "Heart Of Rome" ...

Not only that...compared to Otis, the Stones are dramatically pale!

I once met Steve Cropper, and so I shook the hand that shook the hand of Otis Redding.

I am a huge Otis fan. I've said this before here, but "Otis Redding Live in Europe" is one of my favorite albums ever. Been listening to it for 40 years! The energy is incredible.

Otis Blue's an amazing album.

He did his best work with Booker T & The MGs, or the MGs with Isaac Hayes. There's a deep soul compilation of his material coming out. I like Otis' extended demo of You Left The Water Running, which is on the Fame 3cd set issued by Ace.

By the way: No Otic, no Arthur Conley, as Arthur was Otis' protege.

It's been really amazing to see the Stones pay tribute to Otis at both of their most recent concerts in Memphis - In 1999 they performed "I Got the Blues" which is essentially an Otis Redding tribute and in 2005 they did their cover of "Mr. Pitiful."

Next to the Stones Otis is my absolute all-time favorite performer, his music moves me like no other. All his songs are just amazing and that unmistakable voice of his still gives me chills to this day. What I wouldn't give to have been able to see him perform live just once!

Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind...
