I would be into meeting folks in NYC and taking photographs. Mondays-Thursdays are usually no good for me...too busy. So if you're around fri-sun, let me know.

There was a fence between the audience and Rolling Stones - just like their concert in Helsinki 1970 and the famous Beatles footage of.....was it Shea Stadium 1965?

As previously mentioned a couple of times in this thread, the Australian closed over a year ago. The address of Helen Green design which is there now is 29, Milner Street.

sorta OT--i was on a panel today at a lecture on the death of James Dean (I'd written a book called James Dean Died Here) anyway, i was with the two cops who recovered dean's body at the scene - crazy stuff (one of them is *90*)

this is the accident site in Cholame, CA (dean would have been coming at you)

You did a great job in finding the exact spot of the stage at Altamont, but I have to say I only have a rough idea of where the stage was in Hyde Park. I know a couple of people who went to the gig, but their memories of the day are less than precise......'it was very hot'.......'lots of people'.......'sound wasn't very good'....etc!

In true 'Then & Now' tradition, we need the precise location, so if anyone knows....

Yes indeed. Real remarkable stuff by everyone involved here. If you really wanted to take this to unspeakable levels. You could do a here and now concept on virtually every place in the planet. Of course we won't. But fascinating stuff still. Thanks much to all doing the legwork on this.

Looks to me like the photographer has taken the last shot whilst the stones were still sitting along the ledge and that he probably was leaning against the pillar which now has the black iron? light post. Hence the straight concrete edge at the bottom of the 2nd photo.

I think that is exactly right HM, those lamp posts must have been added during the past 40 years or so. I had to make do with a close as possible/similar shot!

No problem at all HM.
I am currently trying to track down another location and have been in contact with the gallery where the photographer is based. He is back from a trip overseas this weekend and so am hoping to be able to take the 'now' picture then. As you say, the world has changed a lot in the last 40+ years but it's been fun going back to the days when we lived in black and white......!
