For what it's worth, the latest list of songs that my 13 year old wants me to put on his ipod include Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Everything goes in cycles, but I think that the quality of music put out in the 1970s will have an everlasting effect on future generations.

The sound isn't great but it sounds pretty much like every other UMT from 1981.

Just listened with the sound WAY UP. I came up with "...don't amp it again, just drop us in". Couldn't really tell if it was Keith or Ronnie.

Great post. And great pictures. I also love when Keith plays while facing Charlie. Anyone have any pictures of that?

IF the Stones tour the US next year (which has been rumored here and elsewhere), do you think SIRIUS will bring back the Stones channel. I used to really enjoy it. It was taken off the air when the 2006 US tour ended. A precedent was set with Springsteen. E Street Radio was taken off the air after the Rising Tour and recently brought back for the Magic tour.

They're the best sites. Backstreets delivers timely info and setlists from each show. Usually the following morning. Of course, since they're based in the States (NC, I think) they're depending on European fans to phone/text in the setlists. Good luck.

Not sure if this has been posted, but has anyone read this book yet? I noticed it at the book store today and was considering putting it on my Christmas list. Of course, if I get a four-star review here I'll probably buy it for myself before then.

A solid 8. Just finished it. I thought is was a thoroughly interesting read. I wish there was a little more detail in spots (Faces) and a little less detail in other spots. Despite knowing most of the details of the Stones long and winding history, I learned a couple of things I wasn't aware of (sorry, no spoilers). The main thing I came away with after reading this book is a belief that Ro

There's a great song on the new Fogerty CD called "It Ain't Right" which is about the whole Spears/Lohan/Winehouse etc. spectacle. There's a line in the song "...such a waste of life." Your line "waste of talent" reminded me of that.

Great question. I was first exposed to Gimme Shelter on Hot Rocks. The year was probably about 1974 or 75 when I was 15 or so. GS was one of my least favorites on Hot Rocks. The only explanation is probably that I was just too young to get it. Today, Gimme Shelter gives me goosebumps every time I hear it and it is (along with Rocks Off) my favorite Stones song.

To my knowledge, HTW hasn't been the intro song since 1975-76. Taylor played in Kansas City on the Still Life tour in 1981.

Never been to a Buffett show, but I enjoy his music. I have several live recordings and they always seem like a good time. The one thing that impresses me about JB is that he seems to have created a "one artist genre" in a way that only The Beach Boys have done before him. You have to respect that.

Great story. Another funny bassist audition story told to me by Kenny Aaronson, currently the bassist for John Eddie, a NJ rocker. Kenny has played with Dylan, Joan Jett, Billy Idol and others. Apparently Kenny was at home in NYC with his girlfriend. According to Kenny, he was in the shower when his girlfriend burst in the bathroom telling him that Mick Jagger was on the phone. He burst fro
