OT: Jimmy Buffett Bama Breeze Tour 2007
Date: July 27, 2007 06:33

Jimmy Buffett sold out his 10/4/07 show at the Waikiki Shell here on Oahu Hawaii in 2 hours but I was able to get 9th row seats at face value...surprisingly.
Any part-time Parrot Heads here on this board?

I've never seen him in concert before and not a HUGE fan, but he's ok.
I guess I'm just curious about all this Parrot-Head mania, sold out shows and tickets going for double face value is all about. Plus, we don't a whole lot of BIG names that play Hawaii. Although we've had more big acts here in the past year than usual though...

He and his Coral Reefer Band play 27 or 28 songs over 3 hours each show.

Seeing it's my first time seeing his show...well...HE BETTER PLAY ALL OF HIS WARHORSES!!!
If he does not play "Margaritaville", "Cheeseburger in Paradise", "Changes in Latitudes" etc...I'll feel highly ripped off!
smiling smiley

Hmmm...I wonder if Stones newbies would be pissed off if they didn't play all their warhorses, huh?

Yeah man!! Yes, my cousin Mike and I were trying to find the "Some Girls Bar" when I saw you guys wearing your IORR shirts. Once we determined it would take us too long to get there, we wound up partying on the street where the Moulin Rouge is and that street was ALIVE! We had alot of fun and then caught the train back to K-Town in Germany.
I believe you're in my video of my trip to Europe:

It was great to meet you guys, yourself, FrankM and open-g!
I wish we could have partied with you guys but too bad it didn't work out.
Perhaps at the next Stones show in Vegas. I hope!

Jimmy always puts on a great show. Arrive several hours early and just take in the parking lot scene. It's a show in itself. Everyone is nice to everybody. People tailgating. It's great. You'll get all the warhorses. Jimmy knows what his fans want. He'll do all his hits and about six lesser known tunes for the diehards.

Thanks for the info jomo! It'll be interesting as the Waikiki Shell parking lot only has 50 stalls for cars, tiny lot...I'll probably park in a hotel garage nearby and walk...

i guess i'm a part-time parrothead....

my wife and i have attended his Alpine Valley shows for the past 8-9 years.
we won't be going this year (actually I think it's tomorrow 7/28) because
i have to work. as mentioned by others, it's as much a party as it is
a concert.

he will absolutely play all of his "warhorses" - don't worry.
and unless you are a GRUMP...you will have a great time.

we always got great seats at face-value because I know a Corona beer distributor.
(Corona is a tour sponsor)

his show doesn't change too much from year to year...so it makes it
difficult to keep shelling out $175/ticket. In the future we might
just go to the venue (party in the parking lot) and pick up scalper tix
for under face value.

IORR............but I like it!

jomo called it just right. Lots of fun outside before the show. A happy, crazy, drunk, friendly bunch of folks - those Parrotheads. Wear beach attire. No suits, ties, etc.

For those who don't know, the song "Bama Breeze" mention Mick.

"No Anchovies, Please"

I saw him in 1987 or 1988.....great show.....although I can't stand the "Cheeseburger" song...or the "Fins" song.......but all the others were great. He even played "Come Monday" and "Pencil Thin Moustache."

I just never got Mr. Buffett and I grew up and live in the panhandle of Florida. A couple of minor hits has certainly turned into a most lucrative career for him. There's a great little beach bar called the Sandshaker on Pensacola Beach. They play Buffett music non-stop until we show up. We load the juke-box with plenty of Stones to make our stay more tolerable.

So you were hte guy in the right side of the picture?
I imagine running all around Europe for a summer would be great exercise!
Sure wish I could still be there, and try and shed a few pounds too of the ol' gut.

Keep up the good work and continue to enjoy the tour while it lasts!

Lol Lip...............I feel ya either way.............It's just funny how things come full circle. First we went to concerts that are parents didn't want us to go to. Then, parents started bringing thier kids to those same bands years later............Now the kids are taking thier parents to these shows. I remember when I went to the stones Dodger Stadium show last Nov. I sat next to a young girl who said her and her brother were taking their parents to the stones show as an anniversary present.LOL..........God am I old.

Funny. Jimmy's got a song called, "We Are The People Our Parents Warned Us About." Sometimes that's true. It is a great experience. By the way, I completely recommend his book, "A Pirate Looks At Fifty." It's an amazing travelogue.

Never been to a Buffett show, but I enjoy his music. I have several live recordings and they always seem like a good time. The one thing that impresses me about JB is that he seems to have created a "one artist genre" in a way that only The Beach Boys have done before him. You have to respect that.
