QuoteThe Joker Forgive the terrible pun... But fact is: the 1978 and 1981-82 tours witnessed some deleveraging on the horn section... 1978 had almost no wind section at all, nada, and 1981-82 tours had only a saxophone... Remember some wannabe critics saying already at that time it was a good time the Stones stripped down, and do without that Exile on Main Street brass that sounded too much f

QuoteGasLightStreet QuoteSpud It's got up sides and down sides but it's hard to see how they could have gone any other way. Tne "modern era" Stones have kind of been victims of their own continued popularity and pulling power. They couldn't really have downscaled, even if they'd wanted to. Big Stadiums & Arenas required a big production...which required di

Quotenoughties QuoteGreen Lady If Britpop belongs in the catch-all "retro" bag then so do all the early 60s groups who began by trying to sound like earlier blues/rock'n'roll/soul but soon arrived at a sound of their own. Much the same thing happened to Oasis, Blur, Pulp etc. And that should be "boy band /girl band pop" there were just as many girl bands as boys

The Stones simply don't fit into the calibre of many of these bands listed. They're better off in their own 'artistic isolation' that they've always had around them. For sheer musical (performing/writing/innovativeness) skill they can't compare to The Band, The Who, Hendrix, etc. They need to surraound themselves with lesser artists to shine, or no other artists at a

I think they should keep the sampled drum loop. I mean... if Charlie had to exit the stage in the middle of the song, what would keep the beat. It worked perfectly in Ottawa 2005 when we watched him leave the stage. Oh yeah, Keith left the stage during Sympathy too. Good thing we have Chuck holding the rhythm down. Rock and ROLL! ... or something.

Quotecrumbling_mice Love it all...a great record and as many of you have asserted, the production/mix is perfect and they never really got back to this standard, although Some Girls came close. It captures the Stones sound and the boys are playing really well. The various guitarists who were being 'auditioned' also do a great job. Hey Negrita is just the funkiest and raunchiest Stones

Quoteangee QuoteClaire_M Quotejamesfdouglas Saw Eric Burdon this summer at a local festival, put the mainstage kiddes (Fun.) to SHAME. That's the key. If someone can't deliver the goods anymore (no matter what age), then perhaps it's time to move along. But every time I've seen the Stones, they blew the opening act - usually someone decades younger - off the stage. Excelle

Hot Stuff, Hand of Fate, Hey Negrita, Crazy Mama - these four songs would have made one HELL of an EP! The other four songs, Memory Motel is nice, Melody is novel, Fool to Cry puts me to sleep and Cherry Oh Baby is the worst attempt at reggae by a white rock band I've ever heard.

Rollingfreak, they way youdescribe Voodoo Lounge is exactly how I feel about A Bigger Bang. At best it's generic (Rain Fall Down) and at times worse than anything they'd ever done prior (Streets of Love, Sweet Neo Con).

QuoteGodxofxrock9 Ronnie Wood has revealed that The Roling Stones are planning a world tour for 2014. According to The Sun, the guitarist revealed that the band will get together in February next year for another run of shows. The band's last gigs were in July this year (2013), when they played two sold-out headline dates at London's Hyde Park. However, a band spokesperson has reveal

QuoteNoCode0680 Quotejamesfdouglas I love when American bands do a "North American Tour", with 1-2 Canadian dates... There are probably fewer Canadian dates because they play Canada and tour Canada all the time. They've played more concerts in Canada the past couple of years than the U.S. Did a 15 city tour of Canada in '05, a 9 city tour in '11, and have played other
