The highlight of the late '90s tours, IMHO. Love Keith's "brown sound" on that little Gibson. I dig the album version but it fades out just as it starts getting good. Is it me or do the live versions from the Bang and 50 tours not stretch out as long as on Bridges/No Security?

I know this was covered here a few years ago but I don't remember the consensus. Since there's no footage of "Rocks Off" around, does anybody know for sure if Keith is playing this in standard tuning on the Les Paul or in open G on the Tele? His tone and feel here lead me to think Gibson (and thus standard tuning), but I'm pretty sure he states in Life that the record

Quoterob51 I'm sorry but I think the original band of Elvis Presley was Scotty Moore, Bill Black, and DJ Fontana later on the drums. Don't know exactly when James Burton came on the scene but these were the original members first recorded by Sam Phillips at Sun records in Memphis Tennessee some time in the later 50's, and I feel it somewhat of an insult to these three key members

QuoteGazza Bobby Keys, saxophone Top touring and session sax man for Elvis Presley, Joe Cocker, B.B. King and others, Huh? That's Bobby on "Return To Sender", depending on who you believe. Session logs say Boots Randolph.

I enjoyed the book - I definitely got my money's worth for the $2.99 or whatever it was I paid for the kindle version. It made for a pleasant afternoon of reading. Jo comes off as a bit of a ditz but extremely sweet and patient with a great sense of humor. Ronnie's basically an 8 year old. Keith is the voice of reason and Mick's a bit distant. In short, nothing new but there

Read Bobby's autobiography if you have the chance - it covers his entire life and it's fascinating. One of the best I've ever read.

Yeah, it's definitely not him - it seems obvious now but when I first saw it this morning, it kind of threw me for a loop. He was definitely fatter & more spent by '68. Oh well...

Halfway through it and enjoying every paragraph. He's hugely enthusiastic, really knows his stuff, and is an excellent writer. A great balance between musical analysis, the context of the songs to their times, and a history of the band. This is already one of the better Stones books I've ever read.

QuoteHis Majesty That's not Brian. That's what I thought, too, but the clothes, the sideburns, and the mouth do look quite a bit like him.

Just came across this photo which is supposedly of Brian at the Grammys in NYC, 2/29/68. I honestly can't tell if it's him or not. Something about the nose and the hair look a little off... but as there aren't many photos of the Stones in early '68 out there (aside from the Mick/Brian beard pics), it could very well be him. Opinions?

It's great, but best performance ever? How about best performance from '89/'90? That I could subscribe to.

They also played the old Boston Garden on the Fall '65 tour, as well as Maple Leave Gardens and the Montreal Forum - those had to be 15,000+ easily. Whether or not they sold out, of course, is another matter entirely.

Quoteowlbynite How about rap in this mess. kids had some on in the car, all I heard were verses like 'gotta watch this muhfu*@er over here & that muhf#*ker over there.' I finally asked, you really call this music? These aren't self-respecting songwriters. You're telling me! One night, I was driving home and I heard something that went "She's a starf*cker, sta

QuoteMisterO Great question.... I would Love to read a Charlie biography or better yet autobiography! What books are there about Ronnie not including "The Works" or Jo's recent book? Terry Rawlings' Rock On Wood is a pretty good overview of Ron's life - think it came out in the late '90s or thereabouts. I think the funniest bit may have been one of his broth

MSG, 1/14/98, the first of the three night stand. The show was good from the get-go but something happened during "Out Of Control" that still gives me goosebumps 15 years later. I swear to God, they were levitating. Mick was going absolutely bananas - I think it was the only time I ever really saw him lose all self-possession onstage. But they hit a groove during "OOC" t

Quoteloog droog I think that Stills' was renting the house on 3615 Shady Oak Road from Peter Tork. There was a story about Steve not wanting Peter to come by and meet the Stones, since a being Monkee (or ex-Monkee) was as uncool as it could get in 1969. I heard that Peter was actually living in the basement at the time - he blew his Monkees cash partying all through '68 and then bu

Quotestonehearted The Vox Phantom Mark III ["Teardrop"] played by Brian Jones, where it now resides on display in the Hard Rock London Vault, located on the bottom floor of the merchandise shop in London, which is across the street from the cafe. Hard Rock International purchased the guitar from Sothebys in 1984, and was on display in New York's Hard Rock Cafe before being moved

I need some advice. Thanks to one of the links provided here, my aunt and my mother managed to score a pair of $85s for Friday's Boston show. Mind you, they're 65 and 68, respectively. Plus, my mom has a cane due to a bum knee. So I guess what I'm wondering... are the $85 tix totally arbitrary? They probably can't handle the pit (though I suppose if Keith can stay upr

QuoteErik_Snow Seeing Ron Wood trying to copy Taylor on CYHMK makes me blush I love his solo on this track. It's irrational but I can't help it. That being said, Ronnie's take on it 10 years ago does more for me that the Staples footage of Mick T. doing it the other night. Ron's worse technically but to me, at least, his playing just has a lot more personality. I know, I
