Ok but it's a live in the studio version - not performed before an audience like at the Beacon

I think "I'm Free" was only done at the Beacon and yes "Moonlight Mile" was done on the No Security tour. There's only so many songs left unperformed so clearly they'd have to choose songs they've done before.

If the Stones are capable of mounting one more tour I would be interested if they came up with an interesting idea or two to interest longtime fans. The last time I saw the Stones in 2005 in Toronto I walked out early because by show's end it had just become too formulaic. Probably left during JJF - skipped the encore. Probably the two best idea they've had in the last ten years hav

I agree that the Faces are a bigger influence on the Crowes than the Stones. Listen to Wiser Time and it's pure Ron Wood. Also the Georgia Satellites drew heavily from the Faces. Steve Earle draws heavily on a variety of sources - some songs of his sound like they're straight off Bruce Springsteen's The River but others draw on the Stones most notably "The Best That We Can Do&

I saw Neil last week in London ON and it was the first time I'd seen him since the Greendale tour. In all honesty this was the best Neil show I'd seen except for the Gulf War One tour in Feb 91 which had a special charge to it. Neil played an interesting set considerably different than the shows last year with the same band. He played a lot of screeching guitar but the band did not have

It happened in New York when there were guests (Santana and EC) for Sympathy. Keith starts off the song on the bass. On the other versions, Keith played guitar.

I would agree the 72 versions of YCAGWYW are among the best - I'm partial to the Welcome To New York version

has there ever been a thread asking for the best live versions of individual songs? Just off the top of my head I would say Gimme Shelter (Philadelphia 72) Angie (Brussels 73) Tumbling Dice (Brussels 73) @#$%& (Newcastle 73) Heartbreaker (London 73) It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (L.A. 7/13/75) Memory Motel (No Security version) Miss You (Handsome Girls disc three version)

I agree that the Iggy and Santana line-up was pretty good in Pontiac in 1981. I went to the first night (the night Iggy didn't where the tutu) and Santana was surprisingly good doing a medley of Led Zep riffs and wonderful version of "She's Not There" as an encore.

Bob Dylan's career wasn't really affected by the Bootleg Series. The first one did ok in 1991 but Dylan was drinking heavily and many of his shows were terrible (Stuttgart 91 is generally considered the worst). Dylan's career turned around because expectations got so low and then he exceeded the expectations. He also benefitted hugely from the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995 as he pi

Bad Mick singing "Emotional Rescue" - not so much bad but ridiculous which is too bad because I think it might have been a great single with a different vocal - it was a huge hit anyway but I've always cringed when I hear that one. Has anyone lamented the fact that the song has never been played live?

If you are considering good Ronnie Wood guitar solos, I've always found him to be best as a slide player. I find many of his solos on All Down The Line from the 1975 tour to be great playing ( I particularly like the last part of the version on the Detroit 75soundboard). My favourite Keith playing is on Respectable on No Security. Some of Mick Taylor's fills on the Leeds 71 Dead Flowers

A few posts back, someone wondered if the Dylan tapers have it together more. Well there are a lot more powerful mics in the Dylan circuit - some people have $5000 mics that require a separate power source. Also Dylan doesn't often play stadiums and it's a lot easier to get a good tape in a smaller venue. A lot of Stones stadium audience tapes are not recorded from a decent enough vanta

The blind angel is Rita Bedard. She is mentioned by name in Ron Wood's book. The D Stone New Barbarians dvd contains the CBC footage which includes an interview with Rita Bedard. It is clear from the footage that she is visually impaired. Keith had helped her out in the past. This is probably an example of what former Stones security chief Big Jim Callaghan meant when he said Keith had good

Masked and Anonymous was totally inscrutable but it had an interesting leitmotif. Everyone is trying to get Jack Fate to answer their questions and he has nothing to say which one can assume is Bob Dylan's message. M & A does have an absolutely killer version of "Crash On The Levee" with Dylan and his best band. Worth getting the soundtrack just for that.

As a huge Bob Dylan fan , 1970-1973 and most of the Eighties were dreadful. Neil Young was pretty bad in the Eighties too. Obviously these two artists have done much to redeem any valleys in their careers but they certainly had some rough patches.

Sgt. Pepper was the last and perhaps only time that the world stopped and listened to a record It was the zeitgeist of its time. Debating the merits of the album from today's perspective is somewhat pointless because you can't reproduce the time in which it was first released. It's certainly not my favourite Beatles album. But its status has to do with the very real perception a

Keith's defence in this case was that he was a tortured artist with a corresponding drug addiction - names such as Picasso etc. were actually brought up at the trial. Keith sought rehabilitation before the case came to trial. Chet Flippo who covered the trial for Rolling Stone suggests that the prosecutor in the case did not pursue it as one might have expected probably suggesting that
