I've no evidence whatsoever for this, but I suspect there's a chance that Taylor will get fed up being used as the Midnight Rambler circus elephant and bail on them again. I wouldn't blame him in the slightest. Whatever you think of Taylor's solo career, he's called his own shots and done it his own way for the past few decades. No doubt he's making far more money no

QuoteCaptainchaos Re midnight rambler, anyone gonna mention ronnie woods out of tune guitar lead on the end pickup? na though not Nah, he's in the form of his life, remember (i.e. he goes on stage sober and pulls off some very basic guitar licks by the skin of his teeth, usually in the correct key if not really in time with the music)

No idea, but I wish he'd stop it. If he wants to do it in the studio, cool, but on-stage his playing adds nothing whatsoever and (in my opinion) actually detracts from the rest of his performance. He'd be much more compelling both to watch and listen to on songs like No Expectations and You Can't Always Get What You Want if he didn't insist on playing guitar on them.

Quotekleermaker Wake me up when MT is playing on another song than MR, SA and Satisfaction. +1. I wouldn't even mention Satisfaction, honestly - giving him an acoustic guitar to strum inaudibly as a way of getting him on stage for the curtain call doesn't constitute letting him play on it. (What's weird about this is that when he first came out for Satisfaction on the American da

Florence Welch was the only one worth a damn, for me, both in terms of her performance and the song they got her to do. She was awesome: listening to that version of Gimme Shelter actually got me into Florence & The Machine for a couple of days. Everyone else (except Jeff Beck on Goin' Down, I guess) has performed poorly or at best forgettably, which in some cases may be related to t

Quoteerad Taylor should play the whole of keiths set, especially if hes doing happy which could do with another guitar on it these days. I just wish they'd do Happy with the whole band - when Mick and Keith sing the chorus together, as they did in the 70s, it becomes a totally different song. And there'd be no harm whatsoever in letting Taylor incinerate the solo, a la Brussels Affair

Quoterollingon Many rarities now in the setlist, so I'm very grateful. And a huge role for Mick Taylor is also a big bonus. Not sure if this is a serious post or not

Various people have mentioned it already, but here's the full-length video of Apolitical Blues with Taylor playing the solo (the album version does away with one of his solo choruses, I recall): Lowell George also played the slide part on Giddy Up from Taylor's eponymous 1979 solo album, shortly before his death.

You haven't really told us what your budget - or definition of 'bargain' - is, so it's hard to make specific recommendations, but Fender's Cabronita Thinline is the best looking, sounding and playing production Tele I've tried in ages, and is certainly reasonably priced for what it is. The pickups are pretty convincing too, assuming you're not a Gretsch purist:

QuoteMathijs It's an outtake to me as it doesn't have a real hook, something exiting, something that stands out. It sounds like Keith had this intro riff, which isn't all that original, and that's really all there is to the song. Jagger's vocal melody isn't inspired, the lyrics are week. This could be said of the majority of Stones songs released since GHS. Silver

QuoteEddieByword Here's Mick Taylor and Carla Olson's version.......... Silver Train......... As I recall, Silver Train never became a fixture in the Stones' setlist back in the day because they decided it was too similar to All Down The Line: not that I've anything against the latter song, but I'm really looking forward to hearing Silver Train instead (I presu

Quoteaudun-eg Amazing collection. With the exception of the LP Special there's not a single guitar there I haven't lusted after at one point or another. You're a man of wealth and taste, evidently. May I ask what the black Telecaster is? It looks a little like the Rosewood Telebration they bought out the other year, but I can't see any grain on it. Is it Jimmy Page-i

These are from my phone, with poor lighting, but they'll have to do...the amplifier is a Fender Ramparte, one of the pawn shop ones they bought out last year. Very nice, although the lack of reverb is kind of a drag. 1) '57 MIJ Stratocaster, about ten years old. I bought it late last year - it came stock with Texas Specials, which at some point I'll get rid of and replace with s

Honestly, I could name any five in any order (with the exception of Turd On The Run and I Just Want To See His Face, neither of which I've ever got) and it'd be an acceptable list. But, at the moment: 1) Let It Loose (magisterial in so many ways) 2) Tumbling Dice (dat groove) 3) Stop Breaking Down (very underrated, I think: great riff, and I love Taylor's slide solos) 4) Torn

Quotekleermaker Most Taylorians are also fan of Brian's input in the Stones music. At least I am and I totally agree here with LuxuryS. I always have mixed feelings when watching Hyde Park summer 69. In fact it's a sad event. +1. I love Taylor's playing and his musicianship (and not just in the context of the Stones: I was actually into his Bluesbreakers stuff beforehand) but Jon

QuoteHis Majesty The Jones world is full of some really @#$%& up people though. I got banned from some Jones sites. They don't like facts which mess with their beliefs. They'll accept Jones violence against women and his cruel, cold hearted ways towards his own kids, but not facts put forth in a rude manner. That's interesting. Is this part of the reason why Brian Jones isn&#

QuoteFP The final catchy riff at the end is started ion the lead guitar but doubled up by the rhythm part so could be a precomposed part by Richards, which suggests the jam was a planned thing rather than a spontaneous bit of luck. If my memory serves, there's a tape from the Sticky Fingers sessions which is just them rehearsing the coda jam about forty times over. Perhaps someone around

Many happy returns to my favourite musician of all time and the guy who inspired me to play the guitar again after I'd all but given up. No-one has had a bigger impact on how I play, what I listen to, and the way I appreciate music. I hope he's had a lovely birthday.

IIRC Brian was absent from a good deal of Beggars' Banquet and most of Let It Bleed as well. On Sticky Fingers, Taylor is missing from Sister Morphine. Is Bill on You Gotta Move? I haven't listened to it in a while but in my mind it sounds like Jagger/Charlie/Keith and MT doubling up the slide part.

I've never seen him with one, no. But Gibson's website is notorious for making quite dubious claims about this sort of thing (likewise, I remember them once claiming Mick Taylor as a regular Les Paul Junior player).

QuoteLieB The guitar neck in the first picture has modern tuners, modern trussrod (the 50s and 60s Strats had the trussrod adjustment at the heel and no visible hole at the head), and a modern string tree. Plus the heavily flamed pattern was not common on originals. The neck in the above photos is certainly aftermarket (from a close look at the Olson album cover, it was made by Kendrick, a Brit

So I finally made an account. Hello all! I was hoping someone on this board - Mathijs or Kleermaker, perhaps, or another member with a likewise extensive knowledge of Mick Taylor's guitars - could tell me a bit about the sunburst Strat that MT played a lot on his first solo album, throughout the 80s and into the early 90s. This one, to be precise: (He switches to the Stra
