Did Keith ever play a Gibson Melody Maker?

I was reading this page on gibson.com titled "10 Great LP Melody Maker Players", and it includes this passage about Keith:

Keith Richards

Keith Richards has rocked a variety of Gibsons during his lengthy career, including a two-horned Melody Maker. He has also pulled out Les Paul Standards, a ’53 Gold Top and ES-335s, among other Gibson classics.

But I don't ever recall seeing Keith with a Gibson Melody Maker. Did they confuse their own Gibson Les Paul Jr with a "two-horned Melody Maker" or what?

A typical Gibson Melody Maker:
(Their latest version looks more like a LP Special though)

I've never seen him with one, no. But Gibson's website is notorious for making quite dubious claims about this sort of thing (likewise, I remember them once claiming Mick Taylor as a regular Les Paul Junior player).

This is when this site is impressive. That was sharp, Big Al.

Oh yeah, now I remember that as well. smiling smiley

Not sure if Gibson should be called "sharp" too, or if they're just exaggerating the role of the Melody Maker in the hands of Keith.

I like the mixture of guitars in the Respectable video, btw. Very punk influenced. Ronnie's got a rarely seen '70s Strat.

I don't believe my eyes, its that former member who they continuosuly screw over. Someone better let the band know that his image is still there.

I think some clever photoshop IORR'an shopped him in these pictures.
Everybody knows that in those days The Stones were a 4-mans band...... :-)

The "photoshop" trick for the video clip is amazing, so natural!!!!!!!!!!!
Lucky for the video-editor Bill has not the moves like Jagger.

Melody Makers and LP Jrs are some no frills, kickass guitars. Great to just rock out on.

It is a shame about Gibson's QC. When I bought my LP Jr, Played four of them, in the store, to pick mine out

He used the Melody Maker in the Respectable video, but also during the Woodstock 1978 rehearsals.

"...but also during the Woodstock 1978 rehearsals"

Correct, and more specifically during the numbers of Play With Fire, @#$%& Blues and the "Fat Man Medley" including Tell Me and some other gems.

Got a good sound out of it but I prefer a Junior, maybe it was the Boogie cabinet who made the trick?

I have one of these - great guitars, and very light. I replaced the single-coils with P-90s that fit in the same spot and require no modifications to the body. Sounds exactly like a Junior, but two pick-ups give you a much wider tonal range than the single P90 Jr. The original single-coil pick ups are a little wimpy.

I have a "faded" black Melody Maker, single pickup, converted to Duncan Custom Humbucker with a coil tap. This $300 gem is one of my best Gibsons. When buying look for the version with the wrap around tail piece from about 5 years ago not the abr/stop tail piece version. If it plays well immediately, buy it, they are great if you get the right one.
