QuoteJumpinJeppeFlash It´s impossible to compare the clip above with recent clips of Chuck playing like a three year old and totally out of key. Er, no, it's perfectly possible. BB these days is nowhere near as bad as Chuck Berry, I agree, but it doesn't take much time scouring YouTube to find plenty of clips from recent shows that are pretty painful to listen to nonetheless. As f

Oh, man. This could easily be merged into that Chuck Berry thread from the other day. I love BB King, he's one of my favourite musicians ever, but I wish he'd just retire. Surely no-one wants to see him in this state.

So sorry to hear this. You were always one of the funniest and most perceptive posters on this board and I do hope we haven't really seen the last of you. Get well soon, and take care.

QuoteJumpinJeppeFlash It's not just a youtube clip, it's the sad truth about one of the greatest musicians ever and what i think is pathetic is that people around CB try to make money out of this crap, that's really pathetic and sad. Agree with this 100%. If Chuck Berry wants to play a bit of guitar for his own enjoyment in his old age, that's okay. What is not okay is that

Quoteliddas With the slide I normally use a Telecaster of an SG. And yes, my slide is heavy and the amp always overdriven! But what I get is close to the Love You Live slide sound. It lacks the brilliant sound of the studio version. Yeah, but live tones are always much easier to capture than studio ones. I dunno, maybe try getting hold of a Rangemaster clone or something like that? I assume

Here's a longer video from the R&RHOF induction, with a slow blues medley beginning about four minutes in - I'm not an Aerosmith fan and I think they're pretty superfluous throughout the performance, but Pagey plays some great stuff here.

QuoteRollingFreak Totally agree. However, the electric shows they did in like 1997 (where they were playing a lot of Zeppelin and opening with Wanton Song and closing with Whole Lotta Love/Rock And Roll) were really excellent shows. That was their peak and it actually kind of felt like Zeppelin was back. I will say that even if they were underwhelming, they were smart not to tour as Zeppelin.

I think it's okay for what it is. Zeppelin were much more than the sum of their parts; without Bonham and JPJ, the results were frequently underwhelming. Page & Plant wasn't bad - they're both outstanding musicians - but it all felt a bit ersatz. My favourite bits of that collaboration are the originals they did, Wonderful One and so forth.

Quoteliddas Does anybody have a clue on how to get close to that great nasty LLR slide sound? In particular when you play the high notes up the neck- High action and heavy gauge I would say, but, is there any "secret" secret? C Depends what guitar you're using. I play it sometimes on a cheap old Telecaster in open D tuning (the original might have been in open G, can&#

The April Fools gags on this board basically write themselves. In other news, I just heard Mick Taylor's been confirmed to play on Winter, Love In Vain and Time Waits For No One at every Stones show from now until the end of time. Official Stones-branded zippo lighters will be available outside the auditorium before the show at a discounted rate for those so inclined, and Ronnie Wood will sa

Quoteandrewt Hot damn. That is choice! The freakin' sustain! Everything just goes to the next level at those all too brief moments. Stoneburst's clip is great too. That style of jamming along seems to be lost art. It's true of the whole band, too, not just MT. Some musicians bring the best out of those around them by their very presence. Coltrane did it with Miles, Duane Allman

This, from the Newark show prior to the OMS pay-per-view, is a great Rambler too - around 3.50, Taylor starts his second solo and you can see how into the music he is: Shortly after this, of course, they stopped giving him a second solo and presumably told him to stop playing lead during the verses.

Quotewinter For now, I think I'm going to have to go with 5/20(?) CYHMK because you can feel this amazing roar circle the arena during its height; perhaps the last time a musical highlight, as opposed to a show/jagger/staging highlight, just makes everybody in the audience shout out without knowing why. The guitar notes made everyone high. Although on a purely technical level I prefer the

Quotekleermaker I have both on video, the SAL-solo ánd that Knocking rendition in a very fast tempo. Ha, I thought you would! Good to know the footage is out there - hopefully we'll be able to see it again sometime. Quotekleermaker Not to annoy you Stoneburst, but I have this video too, with somewhat better sound quality. I hope you'll enjoy it: I have a question - I know you have the audio of Taylor's Shine A Light solo from Jimmy Fallon, but do you have the video footage as well?

Quotekleermaker That solo on YCAGWYW in London in 1973 is one of his best live solos with The Stones imo (pretty nice sound quality for an audience recording btw) I'd go one further and say it is his best - and probably the best guitar solo I've ever heard from anyone. It's a pinnacle of technique, emotion, spontaneity and lyricism. I have it on my iPod (thanks to your YouTube u

Quotekleermaker This one, Sway from Chicago, recalls me the Taylor from the Taylor-era (ps: Stoneburst, if you delete the s from https you'll see the video) Done, thanks Kleerie. That Chicago Sway's a brilliant one too, actually. 3.09-3.19 is as close to the sound of the Stones in '73 as we can now hope to get. It reminds me of the Wembley version of You Can't Alway

It's long gone from YouTube but if you can find it elsewhere, the Glastonbury CYHMK is a good contender. I generally find it hard to get into his Rambler solos because as great a blues player as he is, it's just not that much of a showcase for what he can really do (which is, of course, one of the reasons they've had him playing on it). All his Sway solos have been pretty decen

QuoteMax'sKansasCity You are not going to see the upcoming shows being played so close to your home? So you are really mostly just a Mick Taylor fan, not really a Rolling Stones fan? There are also, amazingly, people who'd like to see the Stones, all else being equal, but don't want to pay their ridiculous prices.

Favourite: the Keefburst, without doubt, or perhaps Taylor's Ya-Ya's-era SG with the bigsby. I also love the sound of Keith's old Dan Armstrong plexiglass but the look (and subsequent Aerosmith connection) doesn't do it for me. Least favourite: that thing Ronnie's been playing on JJF/Satisfaction throughout this tour.

QuoteTheGreek QuoteStoneburst To be honest, I'd cut Ronnie a hell of a lot more slack if his guitar work with the Stones resembled his solo work more. On his own he's a balls-to-the-wall rock guitarist with great tone, great feel and some pretty good songs (albeit with an admittedly basic technique and sense of harmony). With the Stones, he phones it in, or just flat-out sucks.

Quoterob51 Also show us the two "leaders of the band" aren't really quite as greedy as they seem where it comes to the spotlight. Yeah, but they are, that's precisely the problem. Well, Jagger is, anyway, not sure about Keith (if Keno's explanation of MT's marginalisation from the other week is to be believed, and it sounds about right to me).
