He also worked with Bowie a bit in his early years. Not sure about the rest of his career.

QuoteMrBobMartini Love lots of these, especially the '77 and' 79 stuff. Munich Hilton, Yellow Cab, Gangster's Moll, No Spare Parts, Everlasting is my Love, Misty Roads, those are just ones I haven't seen mentioned yet. Plus, A Different Kind is one of my favorite stones songs period. A Different Kind video: A different kind is one of my all time favourites, glad there

I love this song and listen to it all the time - it has such a strange but great feel to it, relaxed but swings and almost melancholy. Side note: The linked version is about three minutes but the version I have is just over six minutes. Does anyone else have the versions I have? There are some clear edit points in the linked track.

video: Hey guys, Just stumbled across a cool video of these guys mixing the album for six mins. Sorry if it's been posted before but I thought it was cool and others would appreciate seeing it. Enjoy! Edit: Looks like it was bonus footage from the DVD of gimme shelter from around 2000

Big Star are really worth a listen to! Due to some bad luck and some issues with promotion and distribution with their first record they never made it big but they could have easily been a success under more ideal circumstances. Alex Chilton (probably the most notable member of the band) has a solo career worth checking out from before and after big star too. He was the singer for the box top

QuoteLeonidP And don't discount Mahoney's Last Stand (w Ronnie Lane), that has some very good tunes, Tonight's Number, Mona "The Blues", country songs Chicken Wire(d). I can't believe I forgot this one! From the late to the early is a great track on there too.

I love Ronnie's solo career - For me it is surprising that someone like him has remained so unknown/underrated by the general public his whole career considering his achievements which include: Jeff Beck Group Faces Stones Rod Stewart's better quality solo work And then aside from the above mentioned his solo career in it's own right is great and easily the best of all the

Ronnie has had such an underrated run IMO, from his work with Beck to the Faces and then his solo albums up until the early eighties were fantastic in my opinion (aside from poor mixing on one). Then not to mention his efforts with the stones on top of that. I listen to his early albums all the time. And the first barbarians stuff is terrific! Great listen and anyone who has the time to watch th

I can sympathise with both of the glimmers and like them both so I am going to try and be as objective as I possibly can here. On one hand, Mick had to deal with a junkie and all of the issues that accompany having one as a key member of your band - the hangers on, legal issues, lateness/not turning up to sessions and declining contributions for beginners. Then imagine covering for him and all

This is part of the reason I feel annoyed when people rip on Ronnie both live and studio work. Would any other guitarist be able to flourish in the environment that Ronnie has toured under for the most part since joining the stones? Or in the studio where mick and keith rule but their song output declined compared to their prior years? Without Mac/Stu/Hopkins/keys/wyman I feel like the enviro

Quoterbk A college prof friend of mine was horrified to learn her students had no idea who Keith Richards is. Spoiled, sniveling little sh*ts. Im a student at university at the moment and last year during a class a girl asked who was on my shirt. "It's Keith Richards" "Who's that" "Of the rolling stones" "Who are they" At this point I

This articled seemed to articulate many of the feelings I had but not fully realised regarding the band. It had a refreshing approach too which was nice, rather than the same format many writers/journalists seem to apply when talking about the stones.

Thank you! And yeah I'm a massive woody fan I knew it was released on Now Look but was actually recorded during the sessions for IGMOATD and got all mixed up! Thanks again guys P.S I wish Woody and Keef didn't smoke, it would have saved their voices. I loved Ronnie's harmony work with Ronnie Lane and Mac in the faces.

I probably could make 5 or 6 that I think would have made a huge difference but here it goes: 1. Ronnie and keith stopped smoking when Jagger did (or never started at all) so they could still do those backing vocals (especially keith) that really made those songs and live performances great. 2. I wish that they didn't chase music trends after 1982 and rather than casing what is popul

I feel like the 80s was the beginning of the end (at least for my music tastes) where video slowly begun to overtake audio in terms of importance to the average consumer and the record companies realised the formula to exploit pop music. Every decade there has still been some decent stuff if you look hard enough, but otherwise it has become gradually worse. For the stones I like a lot of their

I thought the backing voacls were lisa fisher and cindy mizelle? (Not sure I nailed the spelling there) because they were new vocals laid over the original track with new MT guitar, they also needed new backing vocals. So (I assume) Mick cleverly tried to simulate the era by getting someone to sound like Keith?

I actually enjoy the first part of the song but get lost at the break towards the end. I don't know who mentioned it earlier (about the earlier take that runs around 6 minutes) but I actually really enjoy that version more. Quality take.
