Writing songs and being rusty on guitar are completely unrelated. Keith will be more than ready with his songs. As a guitar player, I don't sit around and solo by myself. That's reserved for times with the band. By myself, I write.

Mick got a huge growth spurt late in life. Most people reach their full height by 18, Mick grew four inches in his mid sixties!

Keith also says in the interview, in response to an earlier thread trying to make sense of the 'Casino Boogie' lyrics, that they cut and pasted them like William Burroughs. Y'all gotta get the magazine.

I just finished reading the Keith interview in the new Guitar World, and he says the rumors of Mick Taylor doing new guitar overdubs on Exile are completely false. He says if it happened he would know and it did not happen, that he and Jagger had no contact with MT for years. He did say a number of positive things about Mick Taylor throughout the interview and even a few positive things about J

It's gotta be Charlie. He's big on throwing those high hats opening and closing into the middle of fills. Not many rock drummers do that. Jimmy Miller couldn't have done it like that.

I used to be very into the idea of Rick Rubin producing the Stones. I absolutely loved Wandering Spirit's sound. But over the years, Rick Rubin-produced records have developed a certain sameness. The Johnny Cash full-band songs sound just like the last Dixie Chicks record which sounds just like the last few Chili Peppers's albums. I like the sound a lot, but the newness has worn off

Quotekleermaker Now we know that Mick is a brilliant imitator of Keith's voice, we have not any certainty at all anymore what is really original Keith singing and what isn't. It begun with the guitar: "Hey, that's not Keith but Jagger on guitar in ADTL" (if I remember well) and now it's the singing: "Hey that's not Keith but Jagger doing a Keith vocal im

Quote71Tele Quotenonfilter I don't hear Keith on PMS, but I don't think it's cause he can't sing like that anymore. I don't know that he ever could. Y'all know that Mick did a lot of those backing vocals that people think is Keith don't you? He always did a great Keith impersonation. Keith's voice seems to have come back pretty strong in recent years in

Even Keith's backing vocals? They're really rough on that Hampton dvd. I just got it and cringed more than a few times. Great show, but probably the reason they hired backup singers the next go around.

I am pretty sure Bridges to Babylon was mostly analog, maybe not the Dust Brothers contributions. I thought Voodoo was, too. Wasn't there some talk when ABB came out of it being their first all digital. Main Offender was all analogue for sure, and probably Wandering Spirit, as I believe Rick Rubin is one of those tape-only producers. I agree with him. Get Jack White to produce the next

Silk-upholstered chair, rose-pink Cadillac, rich folks that you know, attending the Kentucky Derby, he's talking about her being high-class while he's in the basement with a needle and spoon. I live in Kentucky and saw this song performed live at Churchill Downs in 06. The crowd went crazy after that line.

I find it really disappointing that an unbelievably great album did not come before Voodoo Lounge. While I am a huge Voodoo Lounge fan, I would have loved to have heard Wandering Spirit's main riff played by Keith, and Mick on 'Wicket as it Seems'. Keith's rhythm guitar would have made 'Don't Tear Me Up' an instant classic, then close the album with 'Demo

I read an article today saying that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood (that's right, Ronnie Wood, not Mick Taylor) were expected to show up at Cannes to promote the Stones in Exile film. It also said it was uncertain if they would perform there. I feel like a handful of shows might be brewing. No plans for a 2010 tour, but a handful of shows promoting a re-releas

I got mine at CD Central in Lexington KY. My girlfriend came with me and got one, too. Terribly exciting. They had the cardboard stand advertising the Exile release date and room for what looked like quite a few of these singles. Looked like they had sold quite a few, and this was less than an hour after the store opened. I love record store day. Got a few lps, a few dvds, and Tom Waits Mul

I thought Voodoo lounge was when his voice got good again. Actually Wandering Spirit. Gone were the over the top effects of the 80s. Singing and doing the show he does live require some compromise, but I think he's gotten better. My least favorite versions of his live voice are the 81 tour and the Steel Wheels tour. I was twelve when I first saw the Steel Wheels concert they showed on F

I hear a lot about Keith's 'arthritis' and him no longer being able to play on here. Is it just me, or do his fingers look just as bad here. I thought he played great in '99. I'm young but it was my one of my favorite Stones's shows, along with Arkansas '06. Keith played great there, too. I wonder if his sub-par playing had anything to do with him having a

That's not Charlie Drayton. He didn't play on that show, or maybe that tour. I've got that dvd and read the credits at the end cause I thought he looked different. I always thought this song was undeveloped but now I don't know. The riff wouldn't shine as much if it was more developed. It came right after 'Running Too Deep' on the album, which was more deve

I always liked this song. I agree on the longer solo. I bought the cd at midnight when it was released and was falling asleep on my first listen and that solo was one of the musical highlights that woke me up and made me have a second listen.

Back to my example of Bob Dylan...in 1990 he released 'Under The Blood Red Sky' in 1997 he released 'Time Out of Mind'. He said in his autobiography that he was planning on never recording again. There were those two folky cover albums in between but no originals. They were recorded in his garage. Johnny Cash also was about ready to quit recording until Rick Rubin re-inspi

Have faith. We'll get new songs. There parents all lived to around 90 years old or more didn't they? If they are really done with the mammoth tours, I think they'll settle in and start making records again on a more regular basis, not needing them for big publicity. Bob Dylan is older than any of them. Willie Nelson is way older. Johnny Cash was way older.

I always thought it was a bland market-research ballad, but not terrible. I think what really killed it for me was the deal with the soap opera. There was a deal with some daytime soap in the US where they played SOL as background music to a story line about two characters having an affair. I still cringe just thinking about it. If I remember correctly, Keith did a Howard Stern interview wher

'Play With Fire' is not on 40 Licks and I here that was a standout performance on the show. I can't really say I care. It's a goofy-ass show for people who don't have music in their soul like probably everyone reading this does, or else they would not be reading it. I remember Mick and Keith making negative comments about American Idol, something about musical gameshow
