QuoteStoneage Despicable cultural relativism here. Of course there is political corruption all over the world. And has always been. But corrupt politicians do not murder innocent civilians in Europe or blow themselves up in suicide bombing attacks. If islamistic murder sects attack civilians in Europe (or wherever) we must act in order to protect our societies. Not to act, like some defaitist rel

QuoteMileHigh Quotetreaclefingers QuoteStoneage Behind this political correct relativism is always a political agenda. Whom I seldom agree with. Use Occham's Razor: Who are the perpetrators and what do they have in common? Is it oil companies who are throwing bombs and killing civilians in Paris, Madrid, London or Brussels? Or American capitalists? Or is it members of islamistic murder sec

Out of gits and shiggles I took a stroll over to www.eventim.de and there are some tix for both concerts in Germany available. For those that were shut out and don't need the best seats in the house and don't want to take a chance with the lucky dip tickets, maybe this is something for you. I did notice, however, that I didn't get a seat assignment and probably won't know w

Yes, yes, yes and yes. I was always a lukewarm fan of Cohen's; big enough of a fan to wonder why Hallelujah is his most popular tune considering all the great songs he's put out there, but not big enough to really devote much time to him outside a nice two-disc Greatest Hits package (The Essential Leonard Cohen) I bought after seeing a video for "Closing Time" about ten yea

Really looking forward to this but I hope it's not the official DVD documenting the tour. I saw the show in Stuttgart this past Saturday and it was fantastic - just completely mind-blowingly fantastic. That may sound a bit hyperbolic and maybe it is in a way but I stand by it. My very first show was a Beach Boys concert in the late 80s after a Cincinnati Reds game (maybe 88 or 89) not

Allman Brothers Band Idlewild South At Fillmore East Eat A Peach Brothers and Sisters (OK, OK, that's no. 5). And to be honest, all of the Allman Brother's albums since Seven Turns have been great, especially the live albums.

I was there. He went in to Darlington County and had to switch guitars. That sort of left the band hanging on the chord that begins Honky Tonk Women (I think it's a D chord). It just sort of went from there. He did the first verse and chorus to HTW and went in to Darlington County from there. Pretty cool! I think there's already a video on Youtube.

I don't know what it is but maybe a lot of his songs were just kind of meant to be witnessed in a live setting. I'm a really big fan of the Allman Brothers Band and a lot of people don't get them either because of their jamming. The ABB live experience is really where it's at and if you speak to a lot of die-hard fans, they spend little time messing around with studio album

I was never really into him. I remember him coming to Columbus for the Reunion Tour and the Dispatch had a big write-up on him (an entire page in the Arts section complete with color pictures and setlist). I remember asking myself why the Dispatch would devote so much space to this lame-ass "average" musician . . . I knew in advance that I would have a certain Saturday in 2003 all to

I've beend drinking Rothaus Tannenzäpfle from the Black Forest area of Germany, which is a bit more bitter than a normal German beer (my opinion, at least) but not as bitter as what might be found up north. During the winter months I enjoy a dark Weizen beer as well. I prefer Erdinger but generally get Shöfferhofer since I'm in Frankfurt and it's plentifully stocked. A nice Guin

I don't post here often, but thought I would considering the topic. Christopher Hitchens' death actually hit me harder than I thought it would. Generally the deaths of celebrities go relatively unnoticed in my world (the death of the Big Man was probably the last death that kind of stunned me, though). I loved Hitchens' intellectual honesty; a characteristic I learned to impl

After living in Germany for ten years I find it quite funny has Europeans bash American food because the tend to assume American food is exclusively fast food, which is ironic because the only believe this due to the fact that fast food (ie. McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, etc.) has a presence in European countries, which means their products sell successfully. Then the Germans get all bent out of s

This is an issue I find myself thinking about often during discussions of war, peace and politics. On one hand, I completely understand and have total empathy for the "support the troops" crowd. I get the feeling that some soldiers are consciously proud of their decision to serve their country or cause but I think many are just like a lot of us in that they get up each morning, go to

Hey PR2000, Can't Lose What You Never Had is a great tune! Nice old Muddy Waters number and I must say, the version the ABB does nowadays is fantastic. It was Betts playing slide. He kind of took over after Allman passed. The producer you're talking about is Johnny Sandlin, who was also a great drummer and played with Duane and Gregg in Hourglass before they formed the ABB. Actually you can't go wrong with anything by the Allman Brothers Band aside from their less-than-stellar albums released by the Arista label and, as somebody already mentioned, the lackluster "Peakin' At the Beacon." I'd probably start out with the first four albums (the self-titled debut, Idlewild South, At Fillmore East and Eat a Peach), pick up Enlightend Rogues and

Just got back from seeing them in Neu-Isenburg (Frankfurt am Main - more or less). Fantastic show! I wish, though, that it wasn't as loud as it was. A certain point comes when the volume has a negative effect on the mix (and my ears, for that matter). I'm glad I got to see them now because I expect them to get bigger. The show is very high energy and the people, at least tonight, wer

I'd like to thank everybody for picking up where I left off with regards to the ABB updates. Unfortunately after the first week was over I had to go back to work after a short "forced" holiday (I think Germany's the only place they force you to go on holiday because you have so much that it's difficult to use it all up ). Anyways, I was very pleased with this year

Second -I was wondering if you, or anyone could help me with some questions I have about the footage from the Fillmore East 23/9 '70 (unaired set from a PBS special.) Is this the only filmed show from Fillmore East? Any reason why it isn't officially released? Is the whole show filmed? Are there any officialy released DVD's
