I really like Keith's backing vocals on Scarlet. There are a couple of lines where he's slightly behind Mick. It just feels like nice, slightly sloppy 70's rock and roll.

I've always liked it since it began showing up on YouTube. It does sound cleaner to my ears. I would think unlikely, but I wonder if Mick and Mick "added" to this one as they did with "Plundered My Soul", which I also really like no matter the later additions to the song.

Late period Byrds, on a Clarence White kick. Extended versions on "Untitled" and "Farther Along".

I heard "Lucky in Love" on satellite radio today. I guess it's been 30 years since I last heard it. More pop than the Stones, but not bad.

Maybe he would have stayed if he had been able to look into the proverbial crystal ball and seen the economic future of the boys. Stones have not exactly been output juggernauts over the last 35 years,so he would have had plenty of time to pursue side projects while waiting for occassional tours and albums. There was no blue print for rock and rollers working at social security age and playi

Anybody ever heard Steve Forbert's version of "Child of the Moon"? He had a hit in the US with "Romeo's Tune" back in the early 80's, he sounded a little like Dylan. I have seen it listed as a Stones cover, but I have never heard it. One of my favorite Stones songs.

QuoteSilver Dagger Slow Death by The Flamin' Groovies. Aha - not a Stones song I hear you say. Which is quite correct but legend has it that when when NME journalist Nick Kent played it to Keith, Mr Richards replied, 'I don't recall writing that one'. Yes, it's that good. The Groovies do a great version of "Blue Turns to Grey" (which is a real Stones song)

Quotexke38 I've always liked Johnny Winter's version of "Let it Bleed" (almost sounds more Stones-like than the original). His version of "Silver Train" is pretty good also.

Not bad, Carlos overplays it though and it never finds the groove.

Put "Evening Gown" on there and force The Stones to do a version. It should have been a Stones song anyway.

QuoteFrom4tilLate I swore it wouldn't happen, and I was wrong. My source in the Black Crowes says that Chuck Leavell's already gotten "the call" from Mick about next year. It's on. Are you sure Chuck didnt get the call for Sea Level to reform?

Quoteloog droog QuoteSilver Dagger They've been playing Ruby Tuesday, Uncle John's Band and Girl From The North Country on their recent live tour. But not good news - live albums, and covers albums are usually a sign of an artist in decline. Wasn't "Uncle John's Band" the Dead trying to sound like CSN? Yes, you hit the nail on the head. Kind of the same thing wi

QuoteGazza You're right. Its certainly aged well. And I've always been in the pro-Cherry Oh Baby camp, even though we're a small minority. Still never could warm to 'Melody', although I enjoyed seeing them play it at Shepherds Bush. Have you heard Bill Wymans group do it with Georgie Fame on vocals? I love the gospel/jazz feel, but always felt that Mick and Billy

Is it just me or does Black and Blue just keep getting better with age (ok, I can do without Cherry)? Perkins, Mandel, Ronnie, Keith it was all good. Every song unique and I still think it is one of the best sounding Stones albums of all time. Mandels phased solo on Hot Stuff gets me everytime.

I would add The Flamin' Groovies for the US (granted, they were influenced by most of the big 60's bands). The Standells, though they had a very short shelf life. IMHO, I think Aerosmith is mentioned more because the visual/physical similiarities, the music might be influenced by the Stones, but the guitars do not sound the same to me.

Quotestones78 Drift Away could have been included in any of the two, brilliant cover. When I hear it on You Tube it sounds fully developed to my ears. Would make a nice addition to a rarities set or a deluxe IORR.

QuoteJesse1960 What was the caliber of the gun? In a crowd of 300,000 people a .22 or .25, even a .32 the report would not have been as loud as a 357mag. or .45. If the photo is authentic it kind of looks like a .357 from the size of the barrel, but I am no expert (dad was an amateur gunsmith). That would be a lot of fire power to carry around in public. Were bullets ever found? They had to h

Whoppie, the news would be if Charlie said he was not interested in touring anymore. To say that he is ready to go if Mick and Keith are ready is how it has been for the last 40 years with the Stones.

Taylor was paid $612.34 US dollars for 11 minutes of guitar work. I read this in the National Enquirer.

QuoteMCDDTLC Another clarifaction point.. In regards to: Plundered My Soul - just found out Mick Taylor was paid a fee to record his part.. so Rocky was correct on that point.. MLC Right, that is why I could not believe he was paid "nothing" as I was reading in this thread. He had to get a session fee at minimum unless he just wanted the "acclaim" of playing on PMS.

I always considered "Can You Hear Me" more of a FM radio song, I can't see it being an AM hit. I always thought "Silver Train" should have been a decent AM hit in the 70's. I know some consider it an "All Down the Line" knock off, but it has a catchy chorus and chugs along at a nice pace. "All Down the Line" is almost too frenetic to be an AM hi

I would like to see them take a crack at Tulane, one of Chucks last great songs in my opinion, but really they have such a canon of their own outstanding material that is yet to be played live, that covers should be the exception not the norm.
