Besides Jimmy Page not present, where was Jeff's favorite bass player Tal Wakenfled?

Thank you for posting. Fantastic interpretation of "Stratus" by Mc'Laughlin and the band. Jeff Beck would be smiling.

Derek Trucks' Goodbye Pork Pie Hat was great as well.

Wow, John McLaughlin is impressive indeed, only one who can get "close" to Beck, must try to catch him live.

Just out of the show.

The highlight for me was Gary Clark Jr ....

Thanks for the links. Some great performances.

Was disappointed in Shapes of Things. Eric somehow made that powerful song kind of boring.

Jan Hammer was also absent. Also a bit surprised that Batten wasn't on the bill. Joe Perry was on the bill but absent, but Kirk Hammett was there which was a surprise to me!!

Thought the same about Ronnie's performance on Beck's Bolero, while Derek Trucks' playing was very tasteful.

Yes, there are a number of musicians who should have been there. Page, Hammer, Batten, Wilkenfeld, Tony Hymas, Simon Phillips to name a few. At the end of the day, though, it is what it is.

Totally agreed. Other highlights for me are Gary Clark Jr and his duetting with Rod on People Get Ready, which only happened tonight (night #2). On the other hand, IIRC last night McLaughlin and Hammet were given their solo slot on Going Down, which didn’t happen on night #2 and the performance was shorter tonight.

For me, SOT was not so much disappointing as fun. You had to be there.

Gary Clark Jr. looks like he’s a foot taller than everyone else in that photo.

The one of Ronnie and Rod nose to nose is good. Every picture tells a story, don’t it?

EDIT: Rhonda Smith on bass

One of the reasons why "You Know You Know" sounded similar to Jeff is because the theme was originally written & played by Mc'Laughlin in 1971.
Jeff Beck played it very often, already with Tal Wilkenfeld if I remember it well.

I don’t find his playing here anything special from either a technical or emotional standpoint. And that type of playing where there is platform for a guitarist to be the focal point of the song makes almost any guitarist sound better. If you let Ron Wood have that platform In sure he’d sound more impressive than when he is playing in an ensemble

On Rod's unplugged album from the early 90s that Ronnie plays on, Rod said back to back they look like a pick axe!

Jeff Beck was a huge John McLaughlin fan! He admired him and was truly inspired by him.
John's playing is a little bit different today than in the 1970s. Less frantic and loud unfortunately. But he's still a god to me! His performance was awesome!

Thank you for the great picture!

I think that Mc'Laughlin at the RAH was the only guitarist present who could add something to Jeff's post -1975 way of playing. And he gave a lot of space to Jeff's last backing band, they really inspired each other . They actually could do a tour playing Jeff's post Blow by Blow repertoire. At the same time I can imagine that most Rolling Stones fans want to remember Jeff Beck like in the days he played with Rod Steward and Ron Wood. That's the reason why BV gave this thread a sticky. In the end this is a Stones fan-page, not a fusion forum.

RIP Jeff Beck †

I attended to both concerts. You forget Derek Trucks who was absolutely fantastic and the others guitar players were great except the poor Ronnie who was just good the second night.

The two gate crashers were Johnny Depp and Ron Wood. Ronnie made too much of a show. Eric Clapton seemed annoyed by his attitude on several occasions.

Anyway I loved this two shows even if the second night was much better.
