Didn't I see Keith with a Music Man on the Bigger Bang sessions at Fourchette in the bonus documentary ?

thanks as always for all the education!

so is that the same sunburst Junior that Keith was using on the Voodoo Lounge tour?
and ... wasn't one of Ronnie's Zemaitises stolen in the autumn (?) of 78, along with Keith's?
i thought it was the pearl one that someone made off with, but i see i am confused as usual. :E

Wood uses his pearl Zemaitis for Love in Vain on that Barbarians DVD, so it must have been stolen on that tour.

The picture of the guitars against the wall is taken on the road in 1969 (Keith used two Armstrong's then), the picture of Jagger in the piano is taken at Nellcote, summer 1971, before the robbery.

With sssoul asked
"what is that gold-speckled black guitar Keith's using on Monkey Man on Four Flicks

The "speckled" guitar used on Monkey Man from Four Flicks is the Tom Anderson ;^)

I was slightly surprised to see him toting it on stage. I'm sure he's got a number of modern "boutique" instruments...but you don't often see him use them on stage.

Fender Telecaster Deluxe (never seen on stage though)

I was just gonna ask anybody here, has Keith ever played a deluxe on stage? I love that guitar.

so - just trying to make sure i'm following all this -
what you'd been told earlier about Ronnie's pearl Zemaitis being stolen in New York along with Keith's "pirate" Zemaitis isn't right;
so does that mean we're back to not knowing when/how Keith's Zemaitis vanished? maybe it went in that 78 fire in LA after all?

Yep, that story is getting vague. Apperently they were stolen in New York, in 1978. It could be that it was 1979, but then it is strange the 5-string Zemaitis suddenly disapears half-way through the 78 tour. Do we know the exact date of the fire in LA?

>> Do we know the exact date of the fire in LA? <<

it was sometime in september 78.
and actually ... i've seen photos of Keith's Zemaitis even from quite late in the 78 tour,
taken by people in the audience who attended only a show or two and thus are quite definite about which dates they were at.
and it doesn't seem likely that the two Zemaitises (Zemaitae? LoL, what is the plural?!) would disappear together in the middle of the 79 tour -
i mean, if Keith still had his on the Barbarian tour, wouldn't it have been seen somewhere?
so i reckon the two guitars must've gone wherever they went on separate occasions.

hmm...plural?
I would go for "the two Zemaitis' " but I don't know for sure.

I just had a look at the site, mentioned on Erik's macabre photos.
They have a el cheapo Micabre model for $ 399.-
[www.maverick-music.com]
I wonder how good that guitar is.

It's not playable, it's a scale model.

The story as I heard it was that both guitars were stolen while in New York in 1978, but this can't be true as Wood's Zemaitis can be seen on New Barbarian shows. Keith's Zemaitis was either stolen or destroyed before the Barabarians tour, as he doesn't use it, and he is experimenting with other five string guitars (Newman Jones, Travis Bean). So in the end, maybe the LA Fire story is true after all.

I've mentiond it many times on other threads.
Keith used the Zemaitis on Brown Sugar only at the 23rd July Anaheim I was at.
I was waiting for it. THat book of photos on the 1975 tour had just come out
as well as various articles (Guitar Player, etc..) that had pictures of it.
As I said before, I was waiting for the appearence of that guitar during that show. So, yes, it was destroyed in the LA fire. The only times Keith was in
LA after that tour seems to be immediately after for sessions at RCA
and for New Barbarian tour rehearsals in mid-79 which were held either at
MGM Studios or Warner Bros. studios (film soundstages, actually).
I don't recall the story making the papers at the time.
I do remember Ringo had a fire at his house out here on LA and that
made the papers. Maybe it was hushed up. If anything made the papers
regarding the Stones at that time, I would have cut out the article
(like Mick testifying at the trial of his bodyguard who stole his stuff.
I've got that floating around here somewhere).

thanks TomK - i remembered that you'd seen Keith's Zemaitis at the Anaheim show,
which is part of the reason i'm so convinced it wasn't stolen *during* the 78 tour.
it could've been stolen after the tour, though, if Chuch wasn't misremembering things totally
when he said it was stolen in NYC; the Stones were in NYC in early october 78 for Saturday Night Live.
but the version where it was destroyed in the september fire does seem mighty plausible.

I checked Wood's 1978 metal top Zemaitis in various books: it's the same guitar from 1978 until at least 1990. The graphics on the top are exactly the same, especially the little flag between the volume knobs is easily recognisable.

About the pearl top zemaitis: check James Karnbach's The Last Tour book, page 78, Denver, Co, october 3/4, 1981: Wood plays the pearl top. The story about it being stolen in 1979 is bullshit as it turns out.

smile: nice shot, Rockman, thanks! is it 1983 by Ebet Roberts?
that guitar is another one i've never seen Keith playing - apparently made by Doug Young as a gift to Keith and Patti.

by the way, your torn & frayed TV-appearance shot of Keith with the Armstrong is from the rehearsal for the 69 Sullivan show.
Stanley Booth was present for that rehearsal, and so was Little Richard, who was moved to speak these immortal words:
"that Keith Richards sure is a funky-lookin cat!" :E
